This store is on the main street, Amagertorv. I went inside just to see what it offered, and from a tourist experience, it was fantastic. There are two floors of hand painted porcelain. These are some of the finest pieces of porcelain in the world. I looked at it as if it were a museum of exquisite plates, cups, glasses, platters, service ware, and bowls. There are walls of examples, as well as explanations of how its made. I'm sure I spent between 30 to 60 minutes in this store. Is everything the very best quality? Yes. Are they beautiful? Yes. Is this worth seeing? Yes, especially if you happen to pass it. Did I intend to buy anything? Absolutely not. None of these items are in my price range. If you added up all of my serving ware, plates, cups, etc. I'm sure the total value of my entire kitchen is less than the cost of a plate here. But that doesn't mean it's not fun to look. Don't worry, no one is going to make you feel uncomfortable because you are clearly a gawker, not a buyer. Surprisingly, there ARE many actual buyers in the store. If you enjoy this experience, stop into the Georg Jensen Silver silver store that is literally next to Royal Copenhagen for another experience. read more

Crazy expensive, but I guess people love this stuff? I bought a small figurine which came out to about $100. I don't own any Royal Copenhagen dinnerware; I cant imagine paying that much for plates... Pro tip: you can find older (and much cheaper) Royal Copenhagen stuff in the various flea markets that pop up in Copenhagen on the weekends. read more

Dinnerware at its finest. If you love porcelain, ceramics, crockery, and collectibles, you will spend hours here and return for hours more the next day. I have not seen a Royal Copenhagen store in the US. We have to make do with small selections at select department stores. But here, you see it all..and more! Read about the various designs. My favorites are Blue Elements and Blue Fluted Plain, their very first porcelain dinner service, adopted in 1775, is still still painted and glazed by hand. Elegant, delicate, regal, and very Danish. Service is warm and welcoming and very knowledgeable about their goods. read more

For some not-entirely-logical reason I'm really drawn to flagship stores. I mean, flagships represent the best of the best in terms of location, concept and selection, right? What I specifically like about the Royal Copenhagen Flagship is that, even though its location predisposes it to being overrun by tourists, it doesn't feel like "a tourist place". The products are laid out over three floors in a beautiful building, abutting a Michelin-ranked cafe. The space is bright and there is a cash desk on every floor and staff distributed well so that when I had a question (I had several) someone was always around. Double points to the staff member who ran down to the storage room on my behalf (so many stairs!) to check on stock. I also, just generally, want to give a shout-out to Royal Copenhagen (way to play, gang!)...I associated the brand with my Mum's love of ceramic eggs (see: thought it was not to my taste and aesthetic). I was really pleasantly surprised by the mix of traditional and modern on offer. There is some truly beautiful stuff, and I wish my carryon and I could have justified a few more purchases (unfortunately, rough travel + small carryon is not a great equation for delicate porcelain). My mom's favorite and I always wanted to own one. You can buy everything online, but it's the whole experience of looking at everything they have to offer. It was crowded; complimentary gift wrapping and the locals and tourists alike, trying to find that last minute gift. I saw few things I wanted but finally decided on getting ONE 'Blue Elements' thermal mug. The cashier (I would guess she couldn't be older than 20 - 22, possibly younger), but she was super friendly. (by the way, I haven't found one single person who is rude during this busy shopping time anywhere!) She advised me of the service that I didn't even know they offered.
