They grow and sell ten varieties of the most beautiful, long-lasting, and unique poinsettias that you can find in northern Illinois. And this year, they offered a lovely, double-petaled variety that is upright and almost looks like a rose. The people are friendly, the greenhouse is big and beautiful, and they sell Christmas trees, greenery, wreaths and other holiday trimmings. It's a wonderful place out in the country. Yes, you can probably get bigger poinsettias at a big box store like Home Depot, but they will not last as long or be as special. And after your done at Kolzes, drive a bit north and stop in at Woodstock's downtown square. It's really beautiful, and it was where the movie Groundhog Day was filmed. It's a Duesy! From what I see not their website, I am sure that Kolzes is great during other seasons, too. I just love supporting small, family-owned businesses.

If it grows in soil, they probably have it. Trees? Check. Bushes? Check. Mysterious plants I couldn't identify but still bought because they looked cool? Double check. This year's hanging baskets are so outrageously colorful, they look like fireworks went off in a flower shop. I hung a few on my deck, and now my neighbors think I hired a professional landscaper or joined a gardening cult. (Maybe both.) I also built a custom planter box (Pinterest, don't fail me now) and needed something show-stopping. Enter: petunias. The Black Mamba and Mayan Sunset petunias are basically floral drama queens in the best possible way. Everything I bought here has outperformed my usual big box store plants, which tend to give up on life the moment I walk away. Even the vegetable starts are thriving like they're auditioning for a salad commercial. Meanwhile, the seeds I got from a chain store are still contemplating germination. No rush, guys. Prices are totally fair, and the staff actually knows what they're talking about, which is refreshing. I'll definitely be back -- probably with even less self control and the desire to fill more planter boxes. And maybe they can help me get a green lawn as well.

He has owned it for 19 years and now it is strictly for weddings. No store ~ nothing to buy. Lovely grounds, plants, ponds, waterfalls, gazebo, arbor, water fountain, and twinkling lights in the trees. There is a lovely outdoor area set up for the ceremony and then we moved indoors for the cocktail hour. It is open and bright. However, one toilet for about 100 people was interesting. There is a tent, that is airconditioned and probably heated based on the season and weather. Plenty of room to move about so moving around the tables was easy. Just a heads up: they lock the doors for the indoors after everyone has moved to the tent. That means, you must use the toilet facilities attached to the tent. Better than a port-a-potty, but . . . Currently, Swanson is blocked off so you have to drive around the road block.
