Mucky in shady spots, roots and rocks pop up along the path, so watch your step. The rhododendrons bloom in July, and the state park seems to keep an updated blog so you can time your visit. It is a half-mile loop trail, Luxury porta-potties (mini cabins) for convenient pit-toilets. A few picnic tables in this very woodsy area. Carry-in, carry-out trash on the premises.

It was close by and looked fun, so we went for a hike there the 4th of July. The sanctuary is well maintained and the trails for easy to find for the most part. Most of the trails are not too challenging, but the North Trail was very steep as it seems you climb down the mountain and then back up it! Not sure what the vertical was on that but going down there was a lot a bit of sitting on rocks and sliding down and climbing back up you needed to use your hands and knees a couple of times. Plus there are a lot of stream crossings, but none too challenging. It was raining when we were there so sometimes the stones were slippery but nobody fell in! If you go to the ledges (see map) first, you get a great view of the valley. If you want to continue on the trail, you need to go down to the stone ledges past the chimney and look north (to your right) and you should see the trail sign down in the woods. We didn't see it when we went there so we went back the other way and circled back around. It took us about two hours to hike around the entire sanctuary. We used the Dutch and Mary Barnard Trail, the Wolves Den Loop Trail and then the North Trail back to the Ledges and then back to the parking area. The main parking area is small...probably only 6-8 cars would fit there. I enjoyed visiting here a lot.

You need to be careful to watch the trail markers, and the Wapack Trail has some very rocky parts, but it's a great hike. Love that there's a gift shop at the top & latrines at both the top & bottom. There's also the escape route that you could walk down the auto road if you needed to. My Garmin said I burned 800 calories. Awesome! Beautiful hike & healthily too.

The Wapack trail (1.4 miles) involves lots of scrambling on rocks and over roots. We hiked on a misty, drizzly October morning. The visibility was not great: all we could see was mist. But coming from the mountain desert, we loved seeing the ferns and the foliage and the huge trees and all the granite. We didn't come prepared with real hiking boots, but our sneakers were grippy enough to handle climbing up the rocks, even in light rain. We enjoyed climbing to the almost-top of the fire tower and admiring the view from above. The informational signs about the raptor migration near the top were neat. Our $12 admission for three people in one car was just right.

The bathrooms were well maintained (also I would hope this would be the baseline for bathroom cleanliness in the times of Covid), the sites are big and flat, and there's a swimming hole you can walk down to! The campsites are close together, and I could see all my neighbors, but everyone was respectful and it was very quiet at night. The only minor downside is that I could hear the occasional passing car on 91 at night, otherwise this was a great campground (it also has accessible campsites!) for a chill night with some pals.

This is a perfect spot for an outing for the entire family. Tully Lake is beautiful any time of year but make it a point to visit during the Winter months when its frozen over and covered with snow. You won't be alone as a small number of folks like to walk across the lake with their family and/or pets. Oddly enough, I think I prefer a Winter visit as Tully displays its cold breathtaking wintery pristine splendor in the sparkling Winter's sun.

I have been here twice, not to camp but to enjoy the park. The first time was maybe 17 years ago…read moreand the second time recently. The park has changed little though due to covid staffing levels there is no one to take payments so it is now free! Staff were very friendly both times. On the initial visit I had a child and dog in tow and while pets are not allowed in the pond they let us know they could splash along the riverbed which made for a fun pastime. This time due to the drought one of the branches of the river leading to the spillway was largely dried up, but the other was gurgling along. The water was a great temperature for a hot day but is muddy, and I came out with my arms brown from dirt. There are also tadpoles which may be a plus or minus for you. By moving deeper you hit water with a current that is cooler, so you can go where you feel comfortable. No lifeguards were on duty but the roped in areas for swimming were small. To cool off you will do fine, but serious swimmers will be disappointed. For a low key destination geared to family fun this place is solid.

Pop ups can pretty well go anywhere but some of low 40s require some serious backing skills. Sites wooded mixed conifer. Yurts and the 70/ sites near the showers and new washrooms but al near the noise of rte 202. This is a nice place to camp with friends or family for a weekend or extra long weekend.
