Down this cobbled lane you'll find their HQ which includes a gallery space, an allotment and some lovely landscaped gardens just off Lacrosse Terrace. The gardens are open all the time and provide a nice place to sit in peace away from the traffic of Great Western Road. The Coach House Trust also holds fairs and open days a few times a year where you can buy produce from their allotments, homebaking, art work and crafts. I've just been to their Autumn Fair and picked up a jar of homemade berry jam which is lovely. A brilliant local charity to support and worth a detour to check out their lovely gardens.

The cafe in the place is upstairs and is essentially a wee cafeteria type place thats open to the public. It's cheap, cheerfull, clean and offer basic cafe grub. Toasties? Maryhill Road's Community Central Hall has been communally used by the community for decades…read more It's utilised by a number of groups, varying from community development agencies to dance troupes when they need to use the space to perform their showcases. There're also childcare facilities, a cafe and a helpdesk if you have any enquiries. There are various classes available to attend during days and evenings. Over the years I've tried a few here, from Miss Henderson's school of dance as a child to a really cool aerobics class (think I lasted a month, feel the burn!) You can also rent out the space for birthdays - my friend had various family parties in here, which were a blast since the staff are nice and we had free reign of the massive dance space. I remember doing the Slosh with my friend's mum that night! It's a great central meeting ground for the folks of Maryhill and George's Cross. The staff won an award last year for fantastic service to the community, scooping it above most other centres like this in Glasgow. The staff opened this centre as a place of refuge when we experienced a local tragedy a few years back. Their award is a testament to their hard work, and further reason why the Community Central Hall has remained pivotal to the people of Maryhill all this time.

There is a certain magic that lingers in old theatres, and it positively oozes out of the walls of…read morethe Panny. I've been wanting to visit here for quite some time, and finally managed it thanks to a show that I was working on. This part of Glasgow used to be awash in theatres, variety houses, music halls, circuses, and all the other popular 'decadent' attractions that so incensed the established church in the 18th & 19th century, ultimately resulting in many of them closing down. Several others also succumbed to fire, so it is all the more remarkable that the Panopticon has survived. It's a long way from being fully restored, but there is a fascination in seeing the bare bones of the building, and at least the exterior stonework has been cleaned and restored to its former glory. Judith and the Trustees do an incredible job in keeping the place alive and honouring its past with displays of posters, photographs, and an eclectic collection of costumes and props around the place. Go and do a tour, or better still go and see a show or a film; this is an important piece of theatrical history that deserves your support.

I saw a burlesque dance class advertised on the Ministry's website that ran for 4 weeks and I thought, och why not. I had done a couple of Club Noir classes but I was looking for more dance based workshops. I was a little apprehensive as the entrance I had to use was to cut through the Mitchell's Amusements. I thought ok this is weird. Well I found the stairs which is located pass the amusements staff room. I headed upstairs, I was quite excited and low and behold I wasn't disappointed. It was a hidden treasure with soooo much beauty. There's memorabilia at each side of where the audience sits and much more on the small stage. It's absolutely stunning. I also find it weird looking at the God Save The King flag but every time I see a photo and I see the flag in the background you know instantly it's in the Panopticon. It's a beautiful building and the exterior has been recently been renovated to it's traditional stone colour from the blue it had dorned for many years. The actual main stage is hidden behind a partician on the small stage as the original stage is very delicate and can't be used or you'll probably end up downstairs on a puggy machine. I have rehearsed and performed here so many times now and I have to say out of all the places I have performed this is my favourite venue. It had adequate changing space and just an amazing atmosphere. The Panopticon also runs music hall memories with tradional songs, Laurel and Hardy film nights as the famous Stan Laurel performed at the Panopticon many many years ago and they've now starting running Bazaars. There' s much history to this place and Judith who takes care of the old girl wrote a book which is a must buy. Stan Laurel and other stars of the Panopticon, The story of the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall. She is very knowledgeable and has such amazing stories. The Panopticon is one of the oldest music halls in possibly the world. If you ever get the chance this is a place you've just got to visit. Pop along to one of the shows as you are guarenteed a great performance by a very talented cast.

Drumchapel Community Centre can be used for a variety of community, social and commercial activities, including but not restricted to: meetings, small conferences, classes, clubs, arts and crafts, sports activities, dance classes, birthday parties, engagement parties, christening/communion receptions, slimming clubs and martial arts classes. The centre is also a popular wedding venue, for which special packages are available.  The centre has additional equipment available for hire. This includes ceiling mounted projectors in both the Kilpatrick and Cruachan rooms, which can be used for powerpoint presentations and meetings. These can also be used as a music system for various other activities. We have a sparkly backdrop curtain on our stage area in the Lomond Hall, which is ideal for dressing the room for functions or special events.  We also have uplighters for hire in the Lomond Hall. Surrounding the hall, the uplighters can be programmed to the colour of your choice, perfect for creating an ambient mood for special occasions. As well as offering 1:1 mentor support and training courses (which incidentally are all free) PSYBT also help to fund young people starting out in business. There are two PSYBT offices in Glasgow - and I was a little bit confused by this. I've already reviewed the other office, which is based at the Business Gateway centre on North Hanover Street. However, after a trip to this office, everything became clear! This office is the NATIONAL head office for the charity. The office based at the Business Gateway centre is the REGIONAL Glasgow office. See, simple! This place is perhaps a little bit difficult to find at first. It's over the top of the Rogano Restaurant on Exchange Street. There's a glass office door right next to the restaurant, and although I've been told there is a little PSYBT logo somewhere on the glass door - I didn't see it!

Given, she's yet to actually venture a visit to the nearest allotments - never mind investigation - I surmise this will probably not materialise. Nonetheless, I did some digging on her behalf. This meant some mother brownie points as well as a very handy review. Talk about multitasking! Anyway, these are the closest allotments to me, at a tiny three minute walk. They are cleverly tucked away just off of Old Castle Road, which can give the impression that you're actually not in the middle of Glasgow. That's always nice. One of my elderly neighbour's rents an allotment here - and has done for at least five years. Needless to say, he's continually been pleased with their services. The allotment's are a decent - and manageable - size with good earth and handy gardening facilities. There is also extremely limited trouble of disturbance due to the adequate security and vandalism deterrents. These include big metal padlocked gates (as you can see from one of the photos) and 'anti-climbing' paint. You know, the never drying paint. So youth's will be more concerned with staining their track suits than ruining some veg. Excellent reports on these allotments - so should you wish to go all Charlie Dimmock this place is ideal.
