I experienced a wonderful afternoon at Rubensteins. From the moment I walked in the atmosphere was refined. Staff showed a clear interest in sharing their store without feeling pressuring. Will helped me with finding a pair of pants perfect for me and assisted in altering them for my short frame. He also helped me with arranging delivery of a Robert Graham shirt that was out of stock in my size. He also guided me to some suit coats. Sadly, I didn't get the blue velvet Etro - this time. While on line at the hostess stand, I noticed there was a gentleman wearing the same dark blue Haspel suit. I grabbed the guy by the arm (sorry, I'm from New York) and said: Dude, are you wearing the same Haspel suit?? Why yes I am as he shows me the label. We both have good taste and it looks better on you! I told Ozzie, I'm on a mission. I'm going to Europe in a month and I want to look fly. I can't have the Brooks Brothers off the rack look, show me your best. My man pulls out this elegant black suit, I mean, I think I saw Obama wearing the same one but without an Italian pocket square. I said: Ozzie, I said I wanted fly but this is super fly! Next, I'm shown into the dressing room where the professional tailor is measuring the garment to my exact measurements. Now Ozzie is doing the upsell! He's showing me shoes, Italian ties and other items. I politely decline and say when I go back to New York, I have a guy. Now comes the final sale. I ask for military discount or even a hotel guest discount?? *Owners, you need to knock off 10% at least for these two items The value is immeasurable! If you want a special shopping experience, just take a quick stroll through Rubensteins and talk with one of their experts! You will not be disappointed! We were in the area just strolling around killing time before a cocktail class just a block away at the Sazerac House. One of the window displays at Rubensteins caught my eye so we decide to take a look around. We were immediately met by Arthur who showed us around quickly and got to know us a little. I did not have any plans of buying clothes, but he was able to show me their own store branded shirts with a streetcar logo, which seemed like a great souvenir, and something I would actually wear unlike a touristy t shirt from across the road in the French Quarter! Arthur showed us a few other neat products they carry and things that you don't see everywhere! Rubensteins also seemed to have a wonderful set up for most custom clothes. While I dont wear suits very often, and due to that only own one truly nice made to order one.... the next time I need a blazer or suit, I would be tempted to find a good reason to visit New Orleans again to see Arthur again! Additionally, while they do not sell online, Arthur gave me his card and said they are always available by phone and email and can show what they have in stock and can purchase through them which is a nice touch! I rarely leave a review for a shopping experience, but I could not pass on this one. I was walking by the store on a Wednesday afternoon while killing some time before heading to the airport. A few nice blazers in the window caught my eye, so I stopped to browse. As I step in, Ozzie Hunter approaches me, asking what he can help with. I mention first that I'm only browsing, and second I'd like to see some summer blazers. I was not in the market for anything new and had no intention of a purchase (certainly not at an upscale men's apparel store). Mr Hunter takes a moment to size me up I (I'm in a blue collared long-sleeve button-up, Prana travel khakis, and Allbird sneakers). We chat about what I'm doing (in town for a conference, I travel for work, and am from Arizona). He walks to the rack and plucks out a cool blue, ventilated travel blazer. I try it on, and it fits to a T. I'm smitten by the blazer and try to contain my amazement that he could find something so perfect on the first try. Just to be cool and look nonchalant, I try on a few others. Honestly, I'd consider almost everything outside of my budget, but I do recognize quality when I see it. Came here for Father's Day during the week as a gifted experience to some family. After our vehicle went through valet we were greeted by 3 hosts. They introduced themselves and began to explain assist us all one by one with details, just as described in the personal style experience online. We bought a few accessories and few casual shirts and walked away with a wealth of knowledge and the store maintained everyone's measurements for future purchases. No online store so all purchases would need to be made over telephone if you're not local. Wonderful service here. The price of the suiting is comparable to the brand. I was drawn in to Rubensteins by their window advertisement for Streetcar polo shirts. I was tired of passing the dozens of tourist shops with their cheap and cheaply made T-shirts. You know the ones: they look nice when you buy them and then the first time you wash them they start to shrink and the design begins to fade. Rubensteins had a great selection of their polos and while they were a bit spendy, they were very soft and well-made. The salesman who helped me, Rod Hundley, was very friendly and not just in a way to get you to buy something. After returning home, I learned the store has been in business since 1924. This is by far one of the best men's appeals shops around. This store is located in the busy downtown of New Orleans, LA. There is a doorman by the name of James. He handles parking your car while you shop. The sales people are all hands on deck accommodating your needs. They offer beverages while you shop. There were several trunk shows going on the day we visited. These shows showcased the up coming collections with the ability to pre-order on site. Custom suit ordering and fitting are available. This is one of the top clothing stores in the metro area and its locally owned and operated. They've been around since 1924 and carry designer collections that you won't find anywhere else in the area. Not only do they offer a fantastic selection, outstanding service, and valet parking but this store is also often used as a great party venue. I've been to several great events here and always have enjoyed all the time I've spent in this store whether shopping or at a party. This is one of the few remnants of the glory days of the Canal street corridor when ladies wouldn't go shopping in the area without their gloves on. One of their uniquely New Orleans items they have started to offer are Streetcar logo polo shirts so if you need a uniquely NOLA gift you can add that to your list! read more

My hubby lost his heart to a charcoal-grey Canali suit worth almost $2,000. We didn't buy it. But what the heck, we still got the Rubensteins experience. The sales consultant was very knowledgeable, humorous, and patient with our questions. We went in looking for black Hugo Boss trousers to replace the ones that hubby had outgrown. Rubensteins didn't have that exact shade of black, but that didn't stop hubby from trying on a bunch of different jackets. The Canali was among the ones that fit perfectly, but it was beyond our price range. Ever since we retrieved our car from the free valet service at Rubensteins and returned home, hubby has been scouring the Internet looking for cheaper Canalis. So far he has drawn a blank. Although I've walked by Rubenstein's many, many times over the years, I hadn't actually gone inside until recently. Given that I'm not often in the market for men's apparel, there was never a reason for me to venture into Rubenstein's until the Scene Magazine party that was held there last week. The store is HUGE, much larger than I would've expected, and it's actually a gorgeous event venue. Wouldn't have expected that to be the case (who has parties in clothing stores?) but clearly I was wrong. It is, in fact, a fabulous place for a party. This place is wonderful. The husband had had his eye on a seersucker jacket in the window for days. On the second to last day of our vacation, he decided he was going to go for it. We walked in, and John greeted us so warmly. He informed us that seersucker only comes in full suits. That didn't stop us on the quest, though I was briefly concerned that he'd end up looking like the Good Humor Man! John gauged hubby's size accurately, and took us back to the changing/tailoring area, where we got the royal treatment. I have to say, a seersucker suit looks pretty great on my man! We almost picked out another sport coat, but needed to pay attention to our pennies. The selection here is fantastic. I can't imagine a guy walking out looking like anything less than a million bucks. The tailoring is being done there, and we are expecting a package from them in the next few days. Wow! I had spent the morning working on my bike and only had time to degrease my hands before heading to Rubensteins. As I pulled up to the valet -- a remarkable convenience in downtown New Orleans -- the valet, James, greeted me with a smile, handshake, and introduction. I walked in and was greeted once more by a gentleman asking if I needed help. Everyone was oblivious to the fact that I looked like a 20-something year old hobo. I came to get a tailored suit, but apparently those are unamerican or something, because as much as I've tried I can't find someone to make me a suit in NOLA. I told Paul that I needed a conservative navy suit for interviews and without asking my size, he picked out two suits for me. Liked one, good fit. Slim and high lapels; slanted pockets, decently comfortable movement; excellent pattern -- almost exactly what I wanted: right color, fine detail, a little flash but only upon inspection. I immediately thought "this guy knows what I'm looking for!" But alas the sleeves were too large. Then he got two more, both fit well, and I really liked one. It was a more European and youthful style, but a conservative color and subtle pattern. I didn't ask the prices because, let's face it when it comes to suits it shouldn't matter. However, I was pleasantly surprised to know the first suit was $400 and the second $1000, so i got both. I don't know what brand the suits were as they are currently being tailored, but those are good prices for suits that fit well off the rack. Length tailoring of arms and legs is free, but the width of the arms cost me $20. Points: The prices were excellent and varied tremendously. The service was top-notch, hands-on and judgment free. The associate(s) KNOW body types and suit styles. The suits fit well right off the rack (a rarity for anyone under 200lbs these days). Quite like the Barney's of New Orleans. read more

Today was my first visit to Rubensteins. I am starting a new job and am in need of a wardrobe reset. You should know that my sartorial vision is... shall we say "limited." When I'm in need of professional clothes, I usually throw myself at the feet of the snappiest dressed Dillards employee and hope for the best. So for this clothes shopping adventure, I opted to do it once and do it right. My online research pointed me to Rubensteins. It is a 90 year old family run menswear store on Canal. They carry many, many brands, so you get a good variety of fits and styles. I took the advice of their website and scheduled a "style session" with a session associate. I showed up for my appointment and was welcomed by free valet parking and a friendly attendant who introduced himself by name. My sales associate welcomed me and we got down to business immediately. He took my measurements, toured me around the store, and started pulling merchandise to assemble into outfits. It was effortless, the selections looked great, and best yet -- they all fit. The service was so overwhelmingly pleasant, helpful, and skillful that I know I'll scowl when shopping anywhere else. Now, you must know that this place is not cheap. Suits start around $500 and go way up from there. Dress shirts are near $100 on up. I've gotta say though that it is so very worth it. Also, note that while they sell lots of business type apparel, they also have a great selection of fashion-forward casual clothes.
