Like everyone else I stumbled on this place on my way back to my hotel and fell in LOVE it with. Most of the store was 50% off the marked price so all the deals were really super deals! Made out with an amazing Gryson handbag from $700 to $80 and some great jewelry that was $200 to $20 I will miss this place....it's an amazing little store (and the sales people are really nice too) read more

This place is great if you have a certain size, budget, and style. They didn't have much in the large/Xlarge section. Keep in kind they have a lot of designer stuff so size run small. Great selection of clothes, but jewelry and bags were just alright. Everything's deeply discounted, but if it's expensive to begin with then it's still pricey at the sale price. Saw a Giambattista Valli blazer for $599. Would probably retail at $1500+, so yeah it's a bargain. But who can drop $600 like that? Overheard the cashier telling a customer that their total charge was $220. There really isn't anything in this store that's fabulous and affordable. But if you're wanting a couture piece for a Mardi Gras ball, then definitely check out the store. read more

Best hidden treasure in NOLA! I almost don't like to tell people about this place because I want it all to myself. I have been to this location and the location on magazine st. Both shops are totally unassuming from the outside and honestly when you walk in it's kind of a cluster. Once I started to do some digging I found some GEMS! so far I've bought a skirt and bikini top valued at $200 and scored them for $20 and a bodysuit which I scored for $29! All the sales associates in this location and magazine st were awesome. Definitely check this shop out for designer brands at TJ Max prices! read more

Once upon a time, I got a large portion of my wardrobe at the old UAL that was located on Vets. That store (and the shopping mall where it was located) is long gone but I remember it fondly when I pop into the FQ location. This store is jammed with clothing...overly jammed. It's hard to move around and hard to get the clothes off the racks. So you have to have the energy to dig... The sizing is all over the map so definitely plan to try everything on. The staff is varied, but you sometimes find someone actually helpful. I've mostly been successful with accessories in the last few years. Maybe because I no longer have the energy (after wandering the FQ) to do that much digging through the racks. read more

I finally had a chance to visit UAL. Pretty cool store, I love the finds but its extremely jammed packed, hard to move around. They had an assortment of sizes and some cool finds such as a cool military style vest with patches and a variety of awesome purses starting in the $50 range. So many shirts in $15 range and leggings around $10-$12 so everything was pretty reasonable to me. Some great accessory buys as well, the necklaces were awesome. They also have a $1.99 sunglass rack as well. The staff was friendly and I had a good experience in the store. Definitely some good buys. Parking can be a bit tricky, it is in the french quarter. Depending on the time of day you go ( I say in the am during the week and/or anytime during the week before 6) you can park across the street in premium parking for $10, 2 other lots right around. Also some street meter parking if you lucky. ( If you want to make a trip of it, one street over is Urban Outfitters, French Connection, Wish, So Good and a few others) read more

Stopped in during my weekend trip to NOLA and found a great pair of Rag and Bone pants for $41 dollars marked down from almost $300. Asked the cashier girl to put them on hold and let her know I would come back for them the next day, no problems. Come back the following evening only to find that the pants were GONE. All of the girls in the shop (who were all there when I put the pants on hold) acted like they had no clue what I was talking about and were completely unhelpful. They never informed me of their hold policy until I returned the next day AFTER my pants were already gone. I am already planning my next trip to this wonderful city but I will NEVER return to this store. read more

This is a moms and pops shop and that's the service you get this isn't a high end retail store and if it is than the owner is doing a horrible Job picking the employees! Best clothing deals in Nola, hands down. UAL's inventory ranges from cute simple basics to high-end designer (think Oscar de la Renta), all displayed together in a happy hodge-podge. Unfortunately, that means it can be hard to find stuff in your size and price range - that's where the staff comes in. I went in looking for a white button-down and bought one by eleventy for $50, discounted from $540. A staffer also picked out some other pieces he thought I'd like "just to try" and I ended up buying five of them! I've shopped vintage, consignment and sample shops all over the US, and this is easily one of the best sample shops around. Most of the items are in pristine condition and are samples. Items, yes, are still very pricey (generally $200+), but they aren't labels you will easily find at these prices elsewhere (example: Joanna Ortiz dresses for $500). I'm guessing it's just pure luck here to find steals (I found a $100 necklace for $17), so it's worth a quick stop if you're in the area. The staff is very, very nice and helpful- which, again, I think tends to be a rarity in sample shops. Definitely worth a visit if you walk in with the right expectations (amazing labels, fairly high prices, probably the cheapest you'll find very high end designers if that's up your alley, very nice staff, clean shop with dressing rooms). read more

I stopped by UAL as part of my purse-a-palooza shopping tour leading (frantically) up to my mother's birthday. This was a no-holds barred, all-out, crazy pants on shopping experience; and I was READY! I was ready to scrutinize every purse New Orleans had to offer so I could stun my mother and win the coveted best child award as she unwrapped my beautiful gift. I was not ready for UAL. I got about ten steps into the store before the staff behind the counter started giggling and smirking and doing that "I'm going to hide this guffaw behind my hand, but really, I want you to see that I'm laughing at you" move from high school. When stuff like that happens, it's easy to think they're poking fun when in reality, someone may have told a really great joke and I just happened to walk by for the punchline. So I beelined off, having spotted a really good-looking handbag. Then someone--feeling saucy--called out to me: "HEY! HONEY! YOU WON'T FIND YOUR SIZE HERE." I had to look then. I made eye-contact, confirmed he was talking to me via awkward hand gestures, and felt like crying. At least they're honest (because I probably wouldn't have found much in my size), but I really thought purses were one-size-fits-all...? Making jokes until the fat girl leaves is a great way to keep me within my budget, but I'm not sure if it's a good long-term business strategy. Accessibility notes: Step up into the store. Door is heavy. Store is crowded with merchandise for mobility devices. Fitting rooms are tiny. High counter. No braille signage. Clothing is hung up the walls and may be out of reach. read more

Don't be overwhelmed by the endless racks of clothing. There is something here for everyone...you just have to dig for it! I was determined to get a deal and tried on almost every dress available. I walked away with a sweet skirt and a scarf to compliment it. There aren't many fitting rooms so be prepared to wait awhile if you are modest; if you are in a hurry, just try on the clothes by the mirrors; nobody cares! I love designer labels as much as I love a good bargain. I remembered going into UAL the last time I was in NOLA and felt like I should go back and see if anything had changed. Unfortunately, it had not. The store is an absolute mess. Racks are overstuffed, which unfortunately damages many delicate items. You really need to be committed to digging and sorting if you want to find a hidden gem...pun intended. The store is dark, looks dirty and seems more like a thrift store than a discount retailer. It also seemed that many of things found in the store were really outdated and not going to withstand the style test of time. Yes, some of the prices were good, but not good enough to tempt me into making a purchase. But if you do look hard enough, there is Chanel, Valentino, Chloé, etc. to be found They also have contemporary designer labels like Tory Burch, Paige Denim and the likes. Also employees are too busy putting clothes on the already too full racks to really be of help to anyone. Not once were we greeted or asked if we needed help with anything. Perhaps I am spoiled, living in Chicago, where finding deals on luxury items is no longer a challenge? With some of the best outlets, luxury consignment store and discounted retailers like Nordstrom Rack, good deals and great customer service are plentiful in Chicago. Either way, I wouldn't recommend that anyone check out UAL, unless you have plenty of time and patience on your hands. read more

For as many trips I've made to NOLA over the last several years...this is one of the best-kept secrets for the designer-label lovers. This is NOT a consignment shop, as another reviewer mentioned. Clothing is new and often samples. On my latest trip, I scored a $625 pair of Costume National wedges...a bargain at $150...I got for $87. Enough stated. I would describe this place as Nordstrom Rack on crack. (Wow, that rhymes) There are a lot of reviews about how crazy it is, but I would say that it's very manageable given that it's pretty compact and shelves are relatively well-marked with what's on it and merchandise is arranged by size. I've seen department stores that are in much worse shape than this place. (And if you're in the French Quarter, aren't you on vacation?? Why not take the time to browse and hunt for that fabulous pair of jeans?) Like the door to Diagon Alley, it's easy to miss the entrance to this place because they use a solid wood door and it's generally closed. But once inside, you'll find a trove of awesome finds (I was there just after one of their markdowns, so it was particularly good). Some spectacular stuff I walked out with: Current/Elliott black skinnies for $20, Theory leather leggings for $65 (regular price $1025!), a great Gorjana necklace for $15. I had to pass on a Proenza Schouler dress (marked at $36) regrettably because it was too small. They had some high-end designers (Jason Wu, Prada) but most of the store seemed to be more contemporary (3.1 Philip Lim, Alexander Wang, Theory, Cynthia Steffe, etc). Although it was fully stocked with wonderful items it was hard to maneuver around and find what you're looking for. Great handbags and accessories but after a while even the savviest of shoppers may be overwhelmed with fashion overload! I went to UAL for the first time today (and I've lived here all my life!! Officially an idiot) and I was impressed. You do have to be prepared to dig, Don't go in thinking you're going to some boutique where there's a small selection and it's easy to browse through. Not at all, they have a ton of stuff and it's crammed in there. But the stuff is great and worth it. I spent $20 and I got an amazing Rag & Bone tank and a great basic Helloh tank. They had Brian Reyes, Magaschoni, Elizabeth and James....so many of my faves all right there for super affordable prices. They also had some great jewelry and shoe steals. The staff seemed nice, I didn't really have any interaction with them. That's one thing though, don't give a place a bad review just because nobody spoke to you. It doesn't mean they hate you and want you to leave. They're working, if you need help, just ask and find out how nice they are before you judge. If you need attention that badly, go to the mall where everyone's job is to shove Hello's down your throat. Yay UAL! read more

The name sounds like they wholesale uniforms but don't be fooled. This delightful little shop offers tempting high/low fashions. I didn't have much luck with finding any clothes in the double digit sizes but found some amazing statement necklaces and funky oxfords at good prices. Lots of unusual things and with only 1 or 2 pieces in inventory. I like funky stuff that is not mass produced. Definitely on the higher price scale but worth a visit. read more

I had great luck here on my recent trip to New Orleans. This place is unique as far as discount clothing stores go. For one thing, the location can not be beat. They have a surprisingly large inventory for such a small store and it was really well organized. There are a lot more clothes for women than men. I think that's pretty typical of stores like this. I consider myself a bit of a label whore and I found plenty of items to take to the dressing room. I ended up purchasing one pair of black pants and they have become a staple in my rotation of clothes that I can wear to work. The staff here was pretty busy stocking and organizing the store but they were helpful and friendly at the the same time. I would gladly do business with UAL again on a future trip to New Orleans. The day of my best friends wedding, the zipper to my dress broke. I was in a panic and thinking I wouldn't be able to find anything to wear. I found this store on Chartres and I'm convinced if I hadn't found them I would have been wearing a brown paper bag to the wedding. They were all so kind. Put me in a fitting room and kept bringing me dresses to try. Once we finally found the one, they even went above and beyond and steamed it for me. I was afraid I wouldn't know how to tie the belt, so she offered to tie it for me so I could wear it out of the store. Awesome spot. The staff was really chill and really fun (they belong in SF!) and there were SO many things there. I love how the goods are set up in a "friend's overstuffed closet" kind of way and when you shop there, you feel like you're just trading stuff with your girlfriends.
