John Marciano has my highest regard. He turned what a nightmare into a manageable experience and he handled each and every aspect with respect, professionalism, and graciousness. Needless to say, I was impressed, and I am not easily impressed. John knew exactly what to do, who to call, how long things would take, how to navigate through each and every aspect of, for us, a 9-month ordeal that started with an electrical fire in the middle of the night and displaced my sister and her family and their pets for 9-months while the insurance company did their thing and the reconstruction took place. Before the fire in Nov 2014, I did not know public adjusters existed. When the fire happened, only my sister was home. One of my nieces, her daughter, was visiting with me in MA. We got a call at 2AM from my sister who was in a histerrical state given that she woke up to use the bathroom and discovered her house on fire. Miraculously no one was hurt and all the pets were safe. My niece and I packed up and drove to Brooklyn. By the time we arrived, we had received a few phone calls from Public Adjusters on my cell phone and some had gone directly to the house. I had my niece take down the information to research when we got to Brooklyn. In Brooklyn I got online and started researching. Rubin and Rosen had great reviews. I discovered that wasn't true for all Public Adjusters and one who sounded professional on the phone, I later learned when I looked on liine that he had been involved in several hundreds of thousands of dollars of fraud with a contractor is scams that ripped off people after the hurricane. Scary. I interviewed John in person before agreeing to work with him. He was professional, courteous, knowledgable, and got right on top of everything. He had at his fingertips the names of people and the numbers to call to get my sister, nieces, and pets safely settled initially in a hotel, then in an apartment within a week. He knew the people at the insurance company (in our case Allstate) and took care of everything. Each one of these would have been a research project for me. He freed me up so that I could fully be there to support my sister and family in this nightmare. He returned calls and emails promptly, answered all questions directly, no run around. Last July, I received a phone call at work telling me that I had a major fire at my home. I immediately left, and rushed home. When I got home, I was relieved to see none of my family members were injured. Now what do I do? Within 20 minutes, I was given about 20 business cards from different adjusters. Around midnight on January 21st 2015, our Victorian caught fire. It was always going to happen, we just did not know that. Could not know that. The fire started behind a fireplace, in a wall. The fireplace looked sound but, because of some ill-advised work done by the former homeowners, it was not. Whether you are reading this because you have suffered a fire or a flood or some other calamity, one thing we share is we both know how disorienting this moment is. And while you do have my very real sympathy, what you actually need is help. Now. I will not sugar coat this and say the path back is easy. It is not. Worse, the insurance company is no longer your friend. The insurance company adjuster is not looking out for you. What you need right now, more than anything, is someone on your side. We chose to retain Rubin and Rosen. And you should too. In this moment, you are wondering "Is it worth committing part of the final settlement to hiring James Guercio and his company?" All I can offer you is our experience. For us, the answer was a resounding yes. I make no exaggeration when I state that I have simply no idea how it was James got the settlement he did. Our structural and personal property settlements were more than 40 and 50% larger than that offered by the insurance company. And that was not the end of the road. During the restoration we found we had to undertake additional work to bring the repairs into line with current NYC Department of Buildings code. Our house caught on fire the day of the big storm in January 2018. It would have been a terrifying night if it were not for James Guercio's team. The fire happened around 5:00 pm and we did not leave the neighborhood until 11:00 pm. We were completely loss and confused. During that time, James already contacted the necessary people who needed to get involved. One party was trying to get us a hotel, which was no circus because airports were close. When we finally got a room, one of James' man gave us a ride to the hotel. The house was boarded before we left. These guys were absolutely amazing and were led by Mike, which whom I did most of my communication with. Once I was told the home had a fire, I get many calls from people who are looking to take advantage of my possible vulnerable state at that time.
