The periode where we turned from a peasant society ruled by a dictatorially king to a democratic socialist wellfare state. I have been here for a guided tour. We heard a bit of history of the building, the living conditions for a normal working class family during the Industrialization, Christmas in the years after WW2, and much more. Our guide were a fountain of knowledge, and he were able tell the history in a very empathetic way. We didn't have time to see all the exhibitions, so I definitely have to go back to this museum on my own. I'm also planning to make a excursion with my colleagues from work. A guided tour is only 1500 DKR. Members of traditionally socialist trade unions hare free admission.

Having frequented quite many of Copenhagens many different libraries, I must say that this is one…read moreof the ok+ ones. The building is airy and usually not too crowded and has some decent spots for studying with interesting views of the library hall and reception. It's also fairly clean. But it's probably too crowded and noisy if you need to concentrate on something (which is usually why I would visit a library, I guess). The noise might have something to do with the "shared" location with Democratic Coffee Bar (which has awesome coffee btw). Might also have something to do with the fact that Borgerservice is also located here. Apparently, Hovedbiblioteket is the place to be! These days they seem to be working on the interiors a little, so be prepared for drilling sounds! Nothing decent ear plugs can't take care of for you, though.. A quick look at the literature collection, tells me that almost nothing is in it's right place. Communication books are under religion and so on. But the fiction, music and children's sections seem to be in order. Hovedbiblioteket also seems like a nice spot for taking the toddlers and smaller kids, seeing as a fair part of the third floor seems to be specialized for children. Oh, and the escalators and toilets are often out of order. The first thing, not so much of a problem. The second thing can be a problem.

Everything can happen at Blågårds Plads. Nørrebro is turning into hipster heaven, but this square…read morewill never surrender. Every morning you can meet the local drunks with a beer at one of the many benches. The young men may play football in the big sink in the middle of the square. Sometimes they are just annoying and are harassing everybody. Small children are playing at the small playground. People pay the great library a visit (they have a large collection of boardgames and comic books). You can play a game of pingpong. During the year Blågårds Plads host a big range of events - all kinds of music and cultural festivals, 1st of May, bike races, flea markets, and I can't imagine what.

Very nice little square centrally located, very close to the Stroget- shopping street and Norreport…read morestation. Really lovely place to hang out and sip a glass of wine or cold beer at the square. The very colourful and old fashioned buildings make this square a very nice place. Have been to this place many times and it always is a nice place for a stopover. Many restaurants and cafés nearby.

Another day, another fountain. This one is the famous "Stork Fountain" in the Amagertorv square…read more The fountain consists of a nine-sided basis of stone, which has a bronze bowl at the top and three small cascades. It is decorated with various aquatic plants and in the basin, frogs spewing water. The three storks are ready to take flight. The fountain was a present to Crown Prince Frederik (later King Frederik VIII) and Crown Prince Louise for their silver wedding anniversary in 1894. There are a number of traditions that happen here including recent high school graduates taking a swim in the fountain. When I was here, something that looked like a bachelorette party had a blindfolded woman using a fish net to pick up plastic balls that were floating in the fountain. It was odd. Maybe you'll luck out and see something similar. The Amagertorv is a busy plaza, full of tourists. Watch out for pickpockets!

Nørrebrogade is the main street in the old working class neighbourhood Nørrebro. Like most old…read moreworking class neighbourhoods has Nørrebrogade undergone a gentrification the last 20 years. Fortunately the neighbourhood fights back and hipsters have not overtaken Nørrebro. Nørrebrogade is a very vibrant example. Because of Nørrebro's many social housing estates the neighbourhood is still one of the areas in Denmark with the lowest income. Nørrebrogade still is a shopping street, where you can do most of your shopping without getting riped. The part of the street closest to Indre By (the central part of Copenhagen) is the hipster area. And the other end is dominated by emigrant shops. Parts of Nørrebrogade have been turned into bikes and public transportation only, and a lot of the lane is devoted to bikes. It is a joy to ride your bike here. At the same time a large part of the street next to Assistens Kirkegård was turned into pavemen, and here you can sit in the sun enjoying a meal or a beverage.
