While the rooms are clean and functional, they lack any standout features or luxurious touches. We were not told about the bike race that caused a road closure, which would hinder our ability to exit the hotel for the remainder of the day. Additionally, the room we booked was in part of the hotel that lacked an elevator -- because we needed an elevator, due to having an infant stroller and luggage, we had to pay extra to get a room in the side of the building that had an elevator. The hotel should have done a better job both on their website and upon check in to communicate more effectively. Thong, one of the employees, who's name is longer and stated she's originally from Thailand, lacked any friendly customer service or knowledge of the city -- she stated all museums and tourist places were closed on Corpus Christi day, however, these were actually open with the exception to retail stores. However, the service provided by Chris, one of the hotel's employees, is exceptional. Chris goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a pleasant stay, demonstrating professionalism, friendliness, and a keen attention to detail. His exemplary service significantly enhances the overall experience at the hotel.

A smaller boutique hotel, Waldhotel is a short cab or train ride into the city center (€27-29 for cab). The train station is about a 7 minute walk from the hotel. We always seemed to be running late, so we always opted for the cab. The rooms are very charming and we got a kick that the wallpaper looked to be inspired by a Victoria's Secret store (see photos). The amenities in the room were plenty with an abundance of free mini-bar items to include lots of water (needed after a long day/night at the Cannstatter). The hotel staff are all very, very nice, service oriented, and everyone we ran into had enough command of the English language to be more than helpful. A particular memorable experience was when I went downstairs one morning too late for breakfast asking for coffee and water so I could work on my computer. The lady at the front desk went out of her way to have a restaurant server set up my very own coffee service in the lobby. How many hotels would have just coldly informed you that "breakfast is over?!" Not the Waldhotel. The bar area is also very nice, with very reasonable prices. One evening I had a double Balvenie 16 year scotch, a generous pour of 20 year port, and ended with another double pour of Bowmore 18 year, all of which came out to around €50, which I considered very reasonable. Additionally, the bartenders kept feeding us free snacks the entire time (maybe they could tell the shape we were in)! Unfortunately, we did not partake in any of the sauna/spa activities, but those seem to be a huge hit based on other reviews. The Finch restaurant is located inside the Waldhotel and is where hotel breakfast is served, and they also boast a unique and impressive dinner menu. I will review the Finch separately, but the convenience of such a great onsite restaurant is another perk of the Waldhotel. We had two meals there. Our entire two night stay which included the €50 bar tab, €48 for breakfast, my €6 lobby coffee service, came out to around €550 total, or around $602. It was probably one of the more expensive stays of anywhere during this romp around Europe, but definitely one of the more pampering and unique experiences we've had as well.

Highly recommend! I…read morestayed here when I relocated from the USA to work at a nearby military installation. The hotel offers military rates and monthly rates. The front desk staff was kind enough to speak English with me while I learned German. I had a junior suite which has a separate room with a large bed. There is a fold out sofa bed in the main area. There is a small room with kitchen sink, microwave, and refrigerator. If you are hoping for a cooktop or oven there isn't one. The sunset view from the balcony is nice. I brought one cat with me. I did see other guests with dogs. The hotel prepared a litter box, food dishes, and a cat tree for my furry friend! Keep in mind that the hotel asks that your pets be in their travel kennels on cleaning days twice per week. The hotel had recently changed ownership and there was a lot of construction. However, noise was limited to certain hours of the day. Some guest service was affected. For example guest laundry was not available and breakfast had limited space. Breakfast was an extra fee but reasonable and had a good variety of choices. Location is right across the street from Salzäcker U-bahn. From there you can catch the U3 to Möhringen then the U5/6/12 to Stuttgart city center (Charlottenplatz/Schlossplatz/Hauptbahnhof). Grab the VVS app for purchasing ride tickets from your phone. Hotel is walking distance to Kelly Barracks. Several restaurants in the immediate area, two stage theaters, and a cinema. Some of the shopping and dining is a little hidden behind and underneath the Palladium theater. Also there is a carpeted pedestrian tunnel that goes underneath the street and connects the two stage theaters to parking. A little farther out there are more local restaurants. A Kaufland is two stops away on the U3 toward Möhringen for everyday shopping.

A great property to stay in Stuttgart close to the airport. Great hospitality from the staff,…read moreawesome rooms, bar, kitchen that prepare great meals (the choices available for breakfast is great). There are four separate buildings that houses rooms and during inclement weather, you may get wet/cold as you traverse between buildings, just be careful if it's icy, but they do a good job of liberally applying deicer. Just remember, it meets European standards, not US so there is no alarm/clock, and European outlets (so you will need to have adapters). PRO: * Bar - awesome selection made even better by the bartender, Steve who goes out of his way to be hospitable and makes awesome drinks * Property is awesome - bathroom is tiled, and in efficient German manner, the hot water pipes are under them so the floor is warm * Breakfast has a great mix of traditional European fare (cold cuts, cheese, yogurt, bread, muesli) as well as some American style fare (eggs, bacon, sausage, etc.) and coffee machine that provides various selection from expresso, cappuccino, latte, etc. * Spacious room with a separate living room area, bedroom, kitchen - my suite had three televisions, living room, bedroom, and even the batroom! CON: * No gym on site - you will need to go across the street to the KANTO Medical & Figure Lounge located on the second floor. NOTE: Bring a towel from the hotel or have cash (Euros) on hand or you will not be allowed to work out. The gym is more a "posh" spa/gym with lots of exercise machines and equipment. Work outs may not be the main focus as carpet and not the standard rubberized flooring covers the weight room area. Another limiting factor is that the operating hours is 1000-2200 (10pm). * Parking stalls are a bit tight so be aware - when leaving the garage after hours (early or late), the door will be closed, pull the rope to activate the door to open * The entrance to the property is not via the main road, but via a back entrance that is a bit confusing. Driving to property will take some map skills, or great map app (I used Waze), my colleagues another app - I did not have any issues. A definite property to stay when staying in Stuttgart, especially since its close to the airport.

Unfortunately, booking a hotel in Stuttgart on short notice this particular night was a nightmare. We finally found Hotel Astoria. We soon found out why it was one of the few places with rooms available... We booked an apartment, which was in a separate building, and as soon as we walked in the room we thought we'd mistakenly ended up in a sauna. After a short investigation, we found that the floor was hot enough to cook an egg on. Turns out the room had floor heating...which was defective. I called the front desk and there was zero effort to rectify the issue. They didn't even come to check if there was a simple fix with the thermostat. After going down and talking face to face, they offered free breakfast, which is little consolation when your room is too hot to sleep in that night. We had to open the balcony door and have both A/C units on full blast to make it through the night. On top of this, the wi-fi was spotty and two of the three bathroom lights were out. I emailed them asking for a refund (a long shot, I know). They didn't even reply! Avoid this hotel like the plague unless it's your absolute last resort.
