I went in for my injured back because it was a long weekend and the Army TMC was closed. The office is in an old home and needs some work. The receptionist/EMG administer/masseuse was nice enough. That is the good. The bad. The doctor talks like a used car salesman which was definitely off putting. Complete with attempted name dropping and "military experience". I had never heard of an EMG and was administered one to start the visit. I was then shown my results with no context provided to what they are showing you. After the visit I googled EMG for chiropractors and the research and numerous papers speaks for itself. It is commonly used by chiropractors to upscale clients. There is no medical proof that it shows anything other than muscle use. The receptionist administered the EMG, even if properly done it is supposed to be administered by a doctor that has received hundreds of hours of training. Not a 20 year old receptionist. The next issue was the doctor attempting to adjust my back, no warm up, no pre massage, no electric stimulation to relax muscles, just straight torque. Of course nothing adjusted as the muscles were too clenched to allow it. Then I was given a basic training style lesson in how to stand up and walk, complete with yelling at you for looking down to make sure you don't trip over all the wires and cords around the office. AFTER the attempted adjustment I was given a massage. The last issue was the up sale to buy their ointment. $10 for a small container of icy hot. I was told a small quarter size amount should be used, right after I was just hosed down with the stuff during the massage. At the end, nothing was done for my back, I left in as much pain and limited mobility as I arrived. I was told to get an MRI through the army. Overall, a terrible experience. $160 for a whole lot of nothing but fast talk. After seeing the army doctors I was given an actual diagnosis, given ACTUAL treatment from ACTUAL doctors and have made good progress to recovery. This place is a sham. I have had really good success with many chiropractors around the world. Military and civilian. This one is a complete sham. Avoid it at all costs. read more

Dr. Ruja is a phenomenal chiropractor, and an even better person. After serious injuries, he was able to use his talent to heal my body & provide me a solid foundation before I played in college. I went to Dr. Ruja's office wanting to try a chiropractor for the first time. Except for some mild back arthritis which I keep in check, I have no issues with my body and just wanted to have the experience. When I arrived, his staff received me and prepped me up, which consisted of a chair massage and the staff scanning muscle tension on my back with a machine. This is where the two stars (as opposed to one) kick in: the staff was professional and friendly; no complaints about them. So about Dr. Ruja himself: he comes off as an aggressive fast-talker who has a fixed pitch on selling you as many sessions with him as possible, and who will get pissy when you don't immediately commit to spending more money with him. He has an issue respecting personal space when talking, actually spit on me (accidentally) a few times, and has a tendency to try to intimidate you with his medical knowledge as a means of selling you more sessions. When you first meet him, part of the pitch consists of him showing you a "EMG scan" (taken earlier by his staff) and then using scare-tactics to tell you how alarming the results are and how your spine will be severely deformed in 10 years UNLESS you sign up for treatment with him. He was dismissive of my arthritis diagnosis (made at a military hospital after an MRI), and would not simply accept that I wanted to have a single chiropractor session just to try it out, instead aggressively pushing for long-term treatment. Once he was actually treating me, I asked him to please not work on my neck, since I didn't want to risk any damage there (there is increased risk of damaging the neck area when being treated). Any normal doctor would respect this kind of request, but Dr. Ruja gave me an attitude for "challenging" his expertise and immediately ended treatment. All in all I spent about 45 minutes with him, with about 30 minutes consisting of him telling me how much I needed long-term treatment and implying I was ignorant/irresponsible for not agreeing with him. The final part of this whole fiasco was with the payment. Prior to doing treatment I asked how much it would be if had to pay for it all myself (assuming my insurance wouldn't cover it). I was told $150, of which I had to pay $75 right there and then. About a week later I got a message from my insurance company telling me that they got billed for $300 from Dr. Ruja's practice, of which they covered $200. This meant that I had to go back to pay the remaining $25. So not only did I get lied to, but I also had to figure out a way to go there again during a weekday. Not knowing they're closed on weekends, I called the office on a Saturday to see if I could pass by. Instead I got routed to Dr. Ruja's cell phone, and after explaining the situation, he asked that I give him my credit card information over the phone. When I refused and said I would prefer to make the payment in person, he started demanding that I make the payment over the phone, so after a pretty uncomfortable back-and-forth, I just hung up on the guy. The staff at Dr. Ruja's office is fine, and I can't speak about the effectiveness of his treatment. What I can say is that the guy has issues respecting his patients' concerns, has aggressive user-car-salesman's tactics, and will rip you off if he can. Stay away from this place. read more

I took my sister in for a consultation with Dr. Ruja and he insulted my 14 year old sister and made her cry and cry. He asked her "how are you a cheerleader, you're so over weight". My sister has a BMI of 25, she is not heavy enough to not be a cheerleader. She can do all the flips and tricks the other girls do and even better than some of the smaller girls. She is also not the heaviest girl on her team, not even close. How dare he tell a 14 year old girl that she is "so over weight". It took me weeks to get her to stop crying at night because she believed that she wasn't good enough to be a cheerleader because of her weight. He almost managed to crush her dreams. I am stiff afraid that she may develop an eating disorder because of that incident. A grown man insulting a child is not my opinion of a good person. I will never step foot in there again. I have also told the person that recommended him and they have now stopped going there as well as their family members. Turns out my friends father also felt he was always rude during consultations because he was over weight. dr. Ruja, if you read this make sure to make it a learning experience. I would hate for another person to get as depressed as my sister because of a comment from a doctor! read more

I've struggled finding a doctor that can eliminate my lower back pain and discomfort as well as a doctor that can explain my condition and give details about my therapy like Dr Ruja did here. Dr Ruja is great with patient care and overall experience. Wait times in the lobby are minimal and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and jumps to assist you with whatever is needed to make the experience a good one. Dr Ruja cares for his patients and crates an environment ideal for healing and ideal for comfort. I'm glad I went to the staff here and I will be returning for the duration of my therapy. read more
