Beware! Dr. Armstrong should be avoided at all costs. I had the awful luck of winding up in the Rumford ER with a severe migraine during a ski trip to Sunday River. I have suffered from debilitating migraines for over 8 years, and I have had a wide range of ER experiences. I can confidently say that, without a doubt, Rumford is the worst ER I have ever had the misfortune to enter. Despite the fact that I exhibited strong signs of dehydration due to nausea, the doctor didn't even order a saline drip until I asked for it. Even a first-year med student should know how crucial hydration is in treating a migraine. Throughout my stay, I was repeatedly ignored, treated as if my condition was unimportant, and finally accused of "narcotics behavior" because they wanted to give my bed to someone else. Dr. Armstrong didn't even bother to verify my treatment history before jumping to wild conclusions and utilizing unprofessional intimidation tactics, including threatening to call the police out of the blue. I have never once been told at an ER before that I had "been there too long." I think the length of my stay reflects on how poorly mismanaged my care was by Rumford's staff. Dr. Armstrong was rude, condescending, and even stooped to threatening me while I was laying in a hospital bed, crying in pain. My father called to check in and make sure I was getting proper treatment, and Dr. Armstrong actually hung up the phone on him! All I can figure is this area must be severely short on qualified doctors. I had to leave this place, make the three-hour drive home, and check in to a hospital near where I live. They admitted me for FOUR DAYS for the same pain Rumford had disregarded and mismanaged. AVOID this place at all costs, especially Dr. Armstrong! Drive an extra hour and save yourself the nightmare of a lifetime. read more

I have seen many hospitals including European ones and mostly In Florida, but this one felt like the Grand Hotel. We went to the ER, for flu like symptoms admitted immediately. We had the nicest nurse Janet and dr. Gleeson was caring and informative. They treated us like royalties, offered food and drinks, did all procedures right and we were dismissed in the morning with a flu diagnosis. They even called 3 hours later to check on us. The only thing missing was a red carpet a our personal valet. I was reading the previous review by Kelsey F. And I clicked the "funny" button because it is clear from what she wrote that after tests she was found intoxicated by alcohol and was having a hangover headache. Of course "it wasn't her fault" but the doctor was supposed to find some horrible disease so she could justify the ER visit to her parents. Ah youth! read more

I'm on vacation from NJ. I suffer from severe arthritis in both knees, especially my right knee, but it's normally managed pretty well. I arrived here in Maine on August 2, 2020 and by today, the 4th, I could barely walk. Being since I've never been here, I called my orthopedic and primary doctor. They recommended I go to an ER so I looked up the closest one and found Rumford ER. My orthopedic doctor called ahead and told them I was coming. The young lady at the desk was as friendly as anyone I've ever met and the nurse was exactly the same. They had me in within five minutes and after explaining why I was there the doctor came in and with the information I gave him and from my doctor he gave me the medication I needed to help manage my pain. I'm back at the lake house, and I haven't felt this good in MONTHS. My next step when I get home is most likely a total knee replacement, but thanks to the amazing staff, nurse and doctor I'll be able to manage my pain the rest of the week and enjoy this much needed vacation. I can't thank them enough. Ever since I've arrived in this state I've been nothing but impressed by its absolute beauty, the friendliness of the people, and especially the staff, nurse and doctor at Rumford ER. Horrible service in the ER if you go here be aware of Julia Greenwald PA. She is a horrible physician assistant with obvious very little experience . I am a OR Nurse and came in because of the flu. My wife was just diagnosed the day before. I had symptoms the day I went in and instead of swabbing my nose to check for the flu, they decided to take a chest x Ray to charge me even more and refused to prescribee antibiotics to treat the infection. Total neglect and disregard for humans in general.she should be fired, for the simple fact that she tries to belittle you and make you feel dumb. But only is a PA. Please have a NP or a doctor treat your patients. Not this incompetent human Julia. read more

On August 2nd I was knocked down onto my roof by a branch.As time went by I was hurting bad,I went to the ER and the care was super,They kept me for 4 hrs and when the pain got better and X-rays showed no Fractures I was released.Time in the ER 2pm till 8pm.The care was excellent ,Dr and nurses were great. Then on Aug 13 at 3am I was admitted via ambulance to the ER with atrial fibrillation and chest pain.the care was super and after the meds I converted to regular beat. I was admitted to ICU and was released at 3pm.the care was great and I have to say we are fortunate to have such facilities here in Rumford.Please convey my gratitude to all concerned,The med care crew,ER crew and Brenda and Sylvia in ICU.I felt very comfortable with the RN Beth who cared for me while in ER,Thanks to all for keeping me alive...... Better than Maine General. They took good care of me and did what they needed to fix me up. As long as you aren't seeking drugs you will love this facility. They take good care of their patients. I had great luck and good service in the emergency room. read more

i have just left this wonderful hospital after approximately 4 and a half months.i originally went in with an abscess in my right leg hat would not get better,it was discovered that i had got stage 4 cancer which is pretty bad.i was on the second floor and everyone from the cleaners to the doctors were absolutely brilliant.everyone a 300% peerson and i got to be known as their little english muffin lol.there are not enough words to say how much i was cared for,however there is certain people i gave nics to and these inclded katie kustard,pickle pudding,tinkerbell,penguin ,simon,dale,bonnie,kyle, krystal and many many more especially megan my 4 foot 10 inches dynamite girl who did so much for me,even coming in on her day off to check on me. even sometimes in the middle of the night they would pop their head in and if i was awake they would sit on my bed ,hold my hand and talk to me when i was down.i have moved to the local community home a week ago and i miss everyone at the hospital very very much,i have about 24 of them on my marriage proposal list , hee hee hee hee.all i can say is thank you thank you thank you.you are all heroes to me,love you all read more

The doctors at this hospital seem grossly inept. I have cyclic vomiting syndrome and while it CAN be brought on by chronic marijuana use, it can also be triggered by a myriad of different things such as stress, anxiety, food ingredients etc. I have been to many different E.R.s and I have to say that the treatment I received here was BY FAR the absolute worst I have ever had. Upon arrival I was asked by the nurse what was going on and I told her of my diagnosis of CVS . She asked ME what normally helps and I told her what two meds I get EVERY other time this has happened, wherever it was. Immediately I was told that one was a narcotic and because I asked for it I wouldn't get it. I told her that she asked me what I usually get and because I answered her truthfully I was going to be penalized? She went on to give me a lecture on how the DEA was cracking down on drug abuse AS I'M VIOLENTLY VOMITING in front of her and how she has a patient in another room Dying so she really didn't have time for me. I was given a IV with some other drugs that a doctor half my age decided would be better for me. Lee's than an hour later my IV fell out and it took me 15 minutes to get someone to look at it...so they just decided I was done. I got discharged only to go home and be sick for another two days, instead of them stopping my spasms and sending me home to rest. Avoid this place like the plague! read more
