Should be able to give less than 1 star. Needed water mitigation after HVAC ice block caused the ceiling to fall to living room floor -along with continously stream of water.Our insurance company USAA sent Rumsey. They sent up a dehumidifier to assist in drying out the ceiling voices. During our 1st conversation with USAA we told the claim rep we had own contractors Since we have done extensive renovations to our 1940s home--USAA told us we could use who we knew & were comfortable.The 2nd visit from Rumsey began 2 hours after appointment--- the Rumsey employee checked the moisture level , saying it needed another say( sunday to tuesday). On that same visit he said he needed to scan our home , stating would take 30 minutes -- took over 2 hours( nearly 5000 sq ft) ---had plans that could not be accomplished, the dehumifier had stay an additional day( Thursday) . It is understandable to scan the room receiving the damage & possibly the ajaccent areas--- but Rumsey literally scanned the entire home, opening every closet ---this was a bit unnerving. All this done for Rumsey to go behind customer's back and send a low-ball noncomprehensive quote to our insurance USAA--- it delayed our repairs. Rumsey contacted ,speaking with an unprofessional, unpolished COO Zac----claiming this long standing preferred contractor with USAA. As a USAA Member for more 25+, it clear this is not the case as Rumsey has been in business just 15+ yrs, taking advantage of both insurance companies & their customers. If you experience a home owner mishalp like water , fire, etc,---get some company--- best to professionals that are trustworthy. We were violated, our damage was in the Living room & above--- not a small home & estimate sent when we clwarly did not want one from them. Today I spoke with Zac the COO of Rumsy because they completed mitigation work but were dragging their feet on the repairs and the repair of the Lattice their worker destroyed while working on my home. I was attempting to explain to Zac the process that his Mitigation Foreman told me was next for the repair portion, and the foreman for their repair process had told me did not match. Instead of listening he asked when I was going to pay them. Had he known my file or anything about me before calling he would have known that he is on direct pay with my insurance company and that when I file a complaint via email after their billing dept asked for payment that I even reminded them that they sent over their tax info to directly be paid by my insurance. Zac is extremely unprofessional and should have zero interactions that are public facing. read more

I used this company for water mitigation and for remodeling of 2 bathrooms that had water damage after a pipe burst behind a wall. When we signed with them we were informed that we could do anything we wanted with the bathrooms and wouldn't be limited to their own materials. I was even told that we could change a tub to a walk in shower. It took nearly 3 months after the accident to schedule an appointment with the general manager (we had to wait for temporary housing, insurance money, Covid delays, etc). He told me that I could not get a walk in shower because the plumbing would have to be changed. I told him we would pay out of pocket for whatever our insurance company would not cover. He would not agree to it. By then, it was too late to try to get another company, not knowing when a different company could even give me another estimate, never mind start the work. We wound up getting 2 new tubs that are about 4 inches higher than our old tubs. So rather than make it easier to shower it is much harder. My husband had to have foot surgery and it was very difficult for him to get in and out of the tub. The bathrooms wound up looking very good. The workers were friendly and considerate. The project manager was very easy to work with and was very responsive to my concerns. But, ultimately, I did not get what I wanted. Not having a walk in shower will make it more difficult to age in place. If you use this company, write something on the agreement specifying what you want and have the rep from Rumsey agree to it. I wish I would have been more forceful, insisting on the shower. In the future we may have to move or redo the bathroom. read more

The worst company. They had great front end cuatomer servuce. But when it comes to the back end they lack any sort of communication between you, the insurance companies, and even within their own office. They did the demolishion, but where ao bad we changed changes companies. read more

Unfortunately I had a toilet overflow in 2019 which resulted in gutting and replacing walls, floors, cabinets and appliances in all but 3 rooms on the first floor. Rumsey was professional, thorough, timely and completely considerate of all my needs, particularly during COVID. Unfortunately the 3 rooms uneffected in 2019, were damaged during the December 2022 freeze and also had to be gutted and replaced. I had no doubt in whom to call! Rumsey began work on Christmas Day 2022 and again provided outstanding workmanship and customer service. In January 2024, Rumsey even called to offer pre-emptive advice to avoid further damage during the 2024 freezing weather. Hopefully, I will not have further issues ... RUN!!!! this company is full of scammers. Their quotes clearly state this is an accurate account of the work being preformed but when i pointed out dates from 2022 and the quantities of items not adding up i was told that was a mistake that they copy and paste from old jobs. When i requested an actual quote with actual information the price nearly doubled for many items but they "gave me a 10% discount" for their inaccurate quoting. The second quote i received for them was for electrical work. This quote also had items listed on it that were not needed such as cutting into my wall in two different places, repairing the dry wall and painting. Any licensed electrician knows you run a wire with a fish tape you do not need to cut into the wall. After doing some research they have several other reviews of them baiting and switching. It is VERY CLEAR they are running scams. I had the work they quoted requoted by another company and the quotes were thousands of dollars less. read more

All I needed was someone to cut away some sheetrock so the plumbers could access the pipes. The plumber recommended them, and instead of sending out a demo guy, they sent a sales rep who insisted I needed thousands in remediation. If my insurance claims adjustor hadn't stepped in, they would have taken me for more than my homeowners' deductible. Will not recommend this company to anyone. Not ever. read more

I will never recommend this company to any of my friends for restoration work. My water heater leaked and was recommended to them from Meetze plumbing they came in promptly and recommended mitigation of my wall and carpet once they got the insurance check everything slowed down the restoration manger keep having family issues delaying work for weeks! My problem happened in July it is now November and they still haven't finished the job. The sub contractor did a great job with the work. read more

We went over the system, from start to finish, and the training was excellent. They are extremely knowledgeable about the restoration process and have many resources. Wonderful experience with Rumsey, had a pipe leak that caused water damage in our kitchen. Brandon Fate and his teammate helped get out the saturated drywall and stuff out, they got it dried out completely in a few days. They dropped everything to take care of it, constantly worked with the insurance company to get my claim handled and made sure the whole restoration and abatement was done safely and well. Don't hire they charged me 30,000+ for a utility room and HALF a roof! It took 4 months and the workers are Spanish and talk shit but we are Puerto Rican. Yeah it's our fault a tornado hit our house, plus they try to charge for things that do NOT exist. They said my under floor had asbestos but I have the same thing upstairs but its clean. It's all a gimmick, they tried to send in....Managers but they lie too! They get paid and they still shady...Avoid it's a auto shop for homes. I HAVE HALF A ROOF who the hell does that but I owe 40,000 for a little utility room, half a roof and I had to buy the paint and no new floor it's only a 1400sf house!!!! read more

We had Rumsey come do our flood mitigation after the Texas ice storm. We were very pleased with their professional handling of evaluating and getting the tear out done and the mold cleared up. Brett went out of his way to clean up more and make sure all of the nails and screws were pulled from the drywall to be ready for new drywall installation. All of the employees from Rumsey were kind and considerate through out the process and answered all of our questions. We hope we don't need their services again but they would be first on our list. BE FOREWARNED!!!!! (would leave 0 stars if possible) I called them based on their reviews here and everyone loves them so I was intrigued. The technician was nice enough when they came out. I told my insurance agent who we chose and he immediately cautioned us that they consistently fight these guys for price gouging. First red flag, they wanted asbestos testing done on my floor. My floor is from 1999 (or later). Highly unlikely it is containing asbestos. The owner of the company even called me from a seminar when he heard I was getting nervous. "Do what we say and be quiet" and the insurance company will pay. "Otherwise, you can leave a bad review! (such a callous and jerk statement)". I was worried as there was a limit imposed on me from the insurance company. I decided to cancel based on other people's advice. Just got a bill from them for 1 technician the first interaction and 2 to remove the dryer and dehumidifier. Totaling maybe 2 hrs tops. $2085!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 dryer, 1 dehumidifier from wed. to fri. That's it! Stay away people if you are worried of the cost. I cannot comment on the quality but only the cost of very little. read more

With the potential of the upcoming hurricane in North Carolina, I do not recommend Rumsey Construction and Restoration. After hurricane Florence I had the company mitigate my home. I initially met with Brenden Santiago, who did an initial inspection. It was impossible to get an estimate, let alone a ballpark price (I was unsure what if anything the insurance company would compensate for). I finally gave in and signed the papers with uncertainty. The owner came to my house later and gave me a ballpark of 10-20k. I was told not to worry because they would deal with the insurance company and I would never see a bill. However, I was wrong. Like many businesses, they were just turning and burning telling people anything just to get some business. I later received a bill for nearly 70k. The adjusters were not impressed and reviewed the document to find that Rumsey Construction and Restoration was trying to collect on work that wasn't performed by them. With the price of mitigation and extent of storm damage, the mortgage company would not release the whole check to me. This left me with answering to Rumsey Construction and Restoration on almost a weekly basis of when they would receive payment. I would NOT recommend Rumsey Construction and Restoration to anyone. read more
