Rural King is Kmart for farmers. It's one of those places that I could spend an entire afternoon in and not get bored. They sell... well everything. Wood stoves, riding mowers, live chicks and ducklings, fishing tackle, firearms and ammo, salt and mineral licks for deer, food... and don't forget to grab your free bag of popcorn. read more

Misleading ad. I saw these buckets on the website and I thought they were a great deal. I can buy buckets all over town for about $5 (bucket and lid), so when I saw the picture of the bucket and lid for $2.99 I ordered 4 of them. When I went to pick them up the clerk old told me the blue one were sold out. Okay. So when I got out to my car I saw that there were no lids. I went back in the store and asked about the lids. I showed the clerk the picture of the bucket with the lid. I said that this is deception advertising and he agreed. Another clerk said "the lids are sold separately." No solution was offered. I love poking around the aisles, and usually find something I didn't know I needed. Customer service in this store can be iffy - about an hour before closing, the cashiers start counting down the time before they can close (and are very vocal about it); some can be surly, etc. There are some that are excellent and I hope they don't develop the others' bad attitudes. Managers appear harried and seem to be constantly putting out fires. Pricing can be iffy - no tags, or incorrect tags. In talking with a front-wnd supervisor, incorrect tags are fairly common. I still wander in almost weekly looking for some odd hardware item or getting dog food. Plus, they have good popcorn available for shoppers. read more

I adore this place! If it's a "farm item", they will have it. I usually stop in when I am in Lafayette visiting family so I only get to shop there once a month or so but we always make it a point to drop in. Usually I find some unexpected treasure "on sale". The last time I was in there was freon for $4.99/case (usually $6.99). At home this same case run $15. There bulk items are a good deal as are their "sale" clothes. read more

I bought a crossbow ripper 415 killer instinct last year it broke one of the limbs hanging in the tree Friday. Rural king won't do anything about the problem they won't back there products they sell and killer instinct company won't answer there phone or emails. I have been trying for to days to get ahold of them. I recommend do not buy these products at rural king. read more

Omg really, the job of the cashier now, is too just scan items. So I had to move around all my horse feed, pine shavings and all the chicken feed. Had to move the cart to him so he could scan the lime bags. Really!! I'm ashamed of being American anymore. No one can work these days. read more

I would give this a less than one star rating. Although the employees are wearing masks and adhering to the governors mandate, they are not asking customers to wear masks. They freely allow customers to come and go without masks. I asked an employee about it and I was told that Rural King does not wish to alienate customers by asking them to wear masks . Rural King is a favorite store to visit when I am in a city that has one. The Lafayette store has to be the most unsafe stores I have ever visited in the chain. There are isles filled with "trippers" and employees that are more interested in chatting with each other than helping customers. If you use a cart, there will be numerous isles you will not be able to access. Management should be concerned about these issues and make this store more safe and friendly. read more

I got 6 chicks from Rural King in Lafayette IN. And in less than 10 hours, 2 died. And it hasn't even been 24 hours, and one looks like it will also pass away. I DO NOT recommend getting any live animals here. When we were looking for a feeder, a worker told us that they sold items separately. And so, they had the bottom but not the jug for the food, they said they hadn't had the jug for 1 MONTH. read more

I like this store and go there frequently for a variety of items. However, the last several times I was there, only about 50% of shoppers and STAFF were wearing masks. Also lots of people wearing masks incorrectly. It's like stepping into an alternate reality. What makes it worse is that they seem understaffed and lines are long. 20 minutes to check out while being immersed in unmasked people? Employees in customer service seemed frustrated and were dropping f-bombs in ear shot of customers (multiple times). I'm going to avoid going there until this pandemic is over. Customer service at Rural King is basically non-existent. After placing an order online a month ago I received an email last night telling me my order was cancelled. No real explanation. I went into the store to see what details I could find out only to have a clerk tell me "yeah, the online ordering is a broken system. they shouldn't have it." I asked who I could speak to about it, so she pages the "online order clerk" to go to the customer service desk, then turns to me and says "I don't know if she's even here" and then walks away. I went to the customer service desk to wait, and no one showed up. I asked another clerk if the "online order clerk" was in and was told she has not seen today. REALLY??? This is how you treat a customer that wanted to purchase $1200.00 in merchandise? Now I have to wait 7-10 days for the "pending" $1200.00 charge to fall off my card. YOU HAVE LOST A GOOD CUSTOMER. read more

This place is a freaking joke. Took almost two hours for them to figure out how to place my husband's order for cattle gates they didn't have in stock. We were told this past Friday the order was ready, went to pick it up and an hour and half later we still didn't have the whole order. We will not be back for the rest, or for anything else for that matter. What a waste of time. read more

Stay away from the firearms area. While waiting our turn I watched as the assassinate selling firearms talked up the inexpensive Hi Point guns as being throw away and not a concern if they get stolen, as if having a gun stolen is no concern. Then he doubled down on his display of knowledge by guessing how many rounds the P38 held that the customer was holding. Then when dealing with my brother, inquired about his lifetime concealed carry license, which my brother happily showed him, and his drivers license that matched. Now, and understand I do not have an issue with this decision, the only document that has my brothers full name, due to identity theft, is his ss card. All other documents and id's only show his middle and last name. He has purchased multiple firearms, with no background issues, as well as going through all the trouble of being background checked for a concealed carry. They did not want to sell him the gun. Nor did they want to let me buy it. Again I understand they have the right to refuse, but the man behind the counter became an unmitigated asshole about it. At no time did either of us ask a second time to buy the gun, and at no time were we disrespectful. I was told forcefully to leave and if I did not he was going to call sheriff. I left without incident, am searching now for the answers they refused to give, and will NEVER recommend gun purchases at rural king. read more

I just left your store. The service was beyond lousy. We waited in line for more than 30 minutes. Only 2 checkers were there. The lane to my left never moved the entire time. Everyone should have walked out of the store. They said they called the manager but no one ever responded, I said she must not have been in the building, They called and used the walkie neither were productive. Everyone was complaining, The two girls working said there was nothing they could do, This is ridiculous, You will need to have one GOOD sale before I go back again. Worst customer service I have encountered for a long, long time. I went there in search of a UV light which is made to find pet stains on carpeting but also used for verifying the authenticity of vaseline glass. Several people had told me that our local Rural King did not have it but the one in Lafayette did. After searching the pet department with no luck, I went to customer service where a young lady with (and I kid you not) red, blue, blond and brown hair was NOT happy that I was asking for help. She then asked another worker who was walking past (and didn't want to take the time to stop) where this particular light was. He shouted "automotive" without looking at either one of us. Really? Even I knew he was making that one up. After finding the light with much searching, I went to the check out lane where the check out girl was eating potato chips out of a bag while checking people out (and handling dirty cash. I went to get a copy of my key. Waited for 45 minutes being told someone was coming to help me. Eventually i was told the person could not be located and id have to come back. Why make me wait 45 minutes???? Just tell me and dont waste me time. read more
