I first sent an email with my request, which had 5 different large print orders, to ask for a quote. Jean took the time to call me and make sure that he understood my request exactly. I could tell that he hadn't taken a good look at my email before calling me--so it took a little longer than I would have liked for us to be on the same page--but by the end of the phone call I knew that I was going to receive exactly what I wanted. He gave me a quote that was far below FedEx's, and through in nicer paper on one portion of my request for free! My dad unexpectedly passed away on 3/8/19. The grief was bad enough, but dealing with the arrangements, notifications, etc just added to the stress. My family wanted to display pictures of our dad on a board during the funeral reception. Since the funeral was only 3 days away, we quickly assembled appropriate pictures but had no idea how to display them. Without question one of the best shops in DC in any category. I had a small job (just one print on 8x11 cardstock) and they were generous enough to do the work even though it was almost a waste of their time. They did the job 10 minutes after I called it in and then they only charged me a $1! They used high quality cardstock and recommended a linen finish that looked great with the project. They also have a convenient location right by Metro Center which doesn't hurt. Their store is a little hard to find (its in the basement of a quiet office building) but the doorman/woman will point you in the right direction. There are clear signs once you get to LL1. These guys apparently don't know much about printing materials. They printed up a bunch of their own ads to leave on cars around my neighborhood, but didn't know that the cheap card stock they were using bleeds ink. The flyers all bled onto windshields, and now half the cars in my neighborhood have semi-permanent partial imprints of their stupid ads stuck to them. Meanwhile, the purpose of their ad (phone number and address) is illegible on the card. If they can't even get their own printing right, I certainly wouldn't trust them with my printing needs. Meanwhile, I'm wondering if they're going to come scrape their crappy paint job off my windshield. read more

After a friendly initial experience, my organization placed an order with Rush Hour. We paid up front, and when I had to change the order I called to ask what the pricing change would be, fully understanding it would be more. Despite three conversations, they never got this information back to me. After several weeks, I called to ask where pieces of the order were and was continually told things would arrive by deadlines that weren't met. When the print did arrive, it did not have bleed like the file we sent and I called to ask what happened. They told me that since they had quoted and charged us for no bleed, they printed it that way even though the file we sent them had bleed. I asked why they didn't call me and explain this before printing it, and they said that it was because they didn't want to dishonor the initial quote. While I appreciated them trying to stick to the quote, giving us a product we didn't order was not the solution. After the several missed deadlines and lack of communication, I asked for a refund on the services not yet rendered (and was happy to pay for what had already been done, including the incorrect envelopes). They told me that they would put in the refund request and let me know. After hearing nothing, I tried several times to ask about where the refund stood, and was continually told the finance department was handling it. I finally got in touch with the finance department, and they seemed to have never been alerted about the refund request. They talked with the printer and told me that they couldn't give the refund because they had already ordered supplies for our printing. I told them that in numerous conversations with the printer he had never once mentioned this. After our conversation, the finance department told me they would initiate the refund and send a check out. Two weeks later I called to check in and they told me that I should have received an email about the refund, but to call back for more info. I called back and after saying who I was, the call was dropped and nobody answered my subsequent calls. I received an email a few days later saying that they could not give a refund, but would give us a house credit. Clearly after this experience, a credit to do more business was not what we wanted. If we weren't going to get a refund, they should have at least been up front about it instead of continuously saying it was coming. read more
