The trend of high end convenience stores is one that I fully support and Gator's is one of the best. Located off of a pretty unassuming exit, Gator's is kind of in the middle of nowhere. it is a great place to stop for gas, food, booze or just the bathroom. Gas - there are pumps aplenty at this station. They are set back away from the convenience store which makes entering and exiting a breeze. Food - if you want it, they've got it. They have an excellent selection of gas station sandwiches (get a ham n cheese poboy), beef jerky, pork rinds, chips and candy. There is even a bunch of fancy cheese to go with the booze. Booze - there is a full wine, liquor and beer section here. I'm not talking about a couple of bottle, I'm taking at least 100 bottles. The liquor and beer sections are equally vast and have cheap standard selections as well as local craft brews. Bathroom - the bathrooms are large, clean and feature Dyson hand dryers. Normally I hate air dryers, but the Dyson models do a good job of powering away the water from my hands. The added benefit is that they look cool which is very important when drying your hands. Staff - The staff here are friendly and helpful. Other items - cigars, alligator heads, LSU and Saints apparel are all for sale. They even sell shot glasses that say "I went to louisiana and all I got was this shot glass". Who could ask for more? In summary, if you are in Lacombe, or just passing through, this station is awesome.

J&S is a small gas station on the outskirts of Lacombe…read more Like most gas stations, J&S offers fuel, snacks, lotto tickets, etc. The interior of the station is small and somewhat cramped, but the cashier was very friendly. Outside there are only a few pumps, but I didn't have to wait. The station is located on 190 in a curve, so entering and exiting can be tricky. On this trip I picked up a Powerade and a lotto ticket. The powerade quenched my thirst, but I didn't win the lotto. If you're in Lacombe and need to refuel, J&S should fit your needs.

My main gripe with J&S Bayou gas and go is that they run out of gas too often. It's a pain in the butt to go there and find they are out of fuel. One of the people who got a po-boy said it wasn't regular mayo on the po-boy, but rather either tahini or tzatziki. Now mind you, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but could be jarring for someone not expecting it. The falafel and baklava were mine. I thought that the falafel wrap was good: flavorful and saucy. It was a bit messy, but I seem to always make a mess when eating falafel sandwiches. I was excited about the baklava, but unfortunately it wasn't very good. Maybe it had been sitting for a while, I don't know, but the flaky pastry had lost some of its flakiness/crispiness and had become a bit chewy instead. One odd thing is that you get your food bagged at the checkout counter, which is separate from the food counter. This doesn't sound bad in theory, but meant I ended up carefully holding 3 hot sandwiches, a small takeout container, and a menu while waiting in line at the checkout counter. The man at the register was very friendly though, and recommended their chicken shawarma; I'll have to try that at some point. It bears mentioning that along with food and typical convenience store items, this place also has a meat counter/market. There are four RaceTrac stores around Slidell and they are all first-rate. This is the location…read morewhere I tend to buy the most gas, as this is one of two local RaceTracs that sell E0 gasoline. As with all the rest, the pumps are clean and the electronics work well. Gassing up is pretty trouble-free most times. The squeegees provided in the pump area are terrible however. The rubber is hard so it doesn't wipe well. I walked around and tested several and they were all like this. Useless. The gas pumps are clean and in good working order. The pump touch screens, electronics, and pay-by-phone devices work most of the time without problems. The nicest thing about RaceTrac is the coffee! They have machines that grind on demand and so the coffee is always fresh. There are several different flavors/varieties and all are pretty good (even the decaf is decent). The store is clean and well kept. The bathrooms are better than average as convenience store restrooms go. If you go to RaceTrac regularly, download their app and sign up for the Rewards program. I have earned a ton of free swag (coffee) over the years.

I like lots of pumps, easy access, and working credit card machines. This location hits all of those points. I usually get gas once or twice each day. Sometimes I will neglect to do it on my way home so I realize I need to fuel up super early. That is when I end up here. No matter when I have visited it seems everyone else had the same idea so the pumps are often packed. Luckily for me, they have four of five rows of pumps and I can almost always find one open. In addition to lots of pumps, it seems that the people who fuel up here also have common courtesy. It is rare that someone will abandon their car at a pump while they go inside and do god knows what while there is a line. That is a big plus for me as I hate people who don't take others into consideration (I am looking at you left lane drivers). The convenience store attached to this station is well laid out and stocked with most items you would need. It isn't as big as the location at the foot of the Causeway in the metry, but it ain't bad either. Happy pumping.
