Homemade lemonade with seasonal fruits - different every time
    Elaine L.

Rustic Pearl, another cute little cafe in the middle of one of Sydney's buzzing brunch capital, Surry Hills. As I enjoy cooking and do cook quite regularly, I have to admit I get more excited when I see "food that I don't make myself" on the menu. To me, Rustic Pearl is one of those brunch spots that not only offers the usual eggs-on-toast but also something extra for picky breakfast snobs like myself. Must try: Homemade lemonade with fresh seasonal fruit - they make it so pretty for you!

From Order To Table: Good timing. Like when you just start cleaning the house before someone gets home and they think you've been doing it all day. Service-ometer: Silver service. Stomachability: Heaven. It is actually heaven. Like imagine when one of those super famous pop stars are singing about how much they love someone, and that someone has gone away about mid-chorus. And then when the final verse comes they've finally rekindled their love with this person and the song is really upbeat and you just can't imagine how they fit this really beautiful love story into three and a half minutes. If I was talented enough, I would write a song like this about my breakfast here and my mid-chorus was me singing about mid-breakfast where I realized I had already eaten half and that there was only another half left. Digest suggest: Anytime. You could go here anytime. In honor of my 'Stomachablity', I have changed the words for the first half of Lady Gaga's 'Love Game' to really explain my dining experience at Rustic Pearl: Let's have some fun, This food is sick, I want another bite of your Lobster Benedict. I wanna eat you, But if I do then I might miss you babe. It's well spiced and reputed And my taste buds have concluded Guess you could try and say, The best cafe. Best Cafe. [Pre-chorus:] Coff-ee, so love-ly Just want to sip you every minute Maybe three seconds is enough for my heart to quit it Let's have some fun, This food is sick I want another bite of your lobster benedict Don't think too much, just use this script; "I'd like to order your Lobster Benedict" [Chorus:] How about the gozleme? How about the gozleme? Would you like more wagyu in your gozleme? Wagyu gozleme. Also order the gozleme. -drops mic-

LOVE IT! The service was fantastic (our waitress knew her shit!) The drinks were delicious and looked pretty and the food was damn fine. Great addition to Crown Street and a good change from all the tired looking cafes. Got a great sense of style. Will be back to try more..

    Aegian Breakfast - really good!

Right up there with some of the best cafes in Surry Hills - my favourite area for brunch in Sydney. I had the Aegean breakfast and highly reccommend it - so tasty and flavoursome, and it's unlikely you'll find anything like it in another cafe, it's a very unique combination of items, including a jar of homemade capsicum relish. I also had an avocado smoothie - something I grew up with but lots of Aussies find odd - open your mind and try it, you will be knocked off your socks! My favourite thing about this place was the brunch menu, which I found quite unique with a large variety of options that made it hard to make a decision. It's very busy on weekends though, so you may have to wait for a table, but you know the old cliche...wait, and good things WILL come to your table.

Most people would rate this place but to me it lacked a little umpff, especially when you're competing with big boys like 458 that's just down the road. The artistic drinks was eye candy but the tongue said otherwise. What looks good doesn't necessary taste the same. We got the chocolate avocado smoothie, may I suggest you less the chocolate and just go straight avocado smoothie. I imagine it'll taste better. Missus got the Wagyu Beef Omelette (a big fan of wagyu beef) and it wasn't too bad. The beef wasn't tough but the egg was a little overcooked and the tomato salsa just didn't really cut it right - bit of a weird combo there. I had the braised Organic Eggs with Ocean Trout. The problem with this dish was the trout was cooking on top of the eggs. Once the trout was half cooked the fish taste was uber strong which ruined the whole dish. Too much spinach, which means too much iron, which means your teeth goes funny. Ah, one cool touch this place has is they call you when your table is ready. So you can stroll along Crown St and the library next door while you wait for that call.

    A delicious Lobster Benedict!

Highly recommended the lobster Benedict with the homemade lemonade! Even though the restaurant is small, it's quite comfortable! Excellent attention and the quality of the food worth the price!

I'm such a fan. I was recently reminded of how much I like this cafe here, especially the brunch menu. They are so wonderful with detail here. Your water glass comes with a slice of lemon and a mint leaf, beautiful dishes, and the food presentation is an Instagrammer's dream. It's cosy, but not cramped and comfortable... love that when it comes to a Surry Hills cafe. The only not-so-great thing is the wait time on food, but unsure if that's a regular theme. Worth the wait.

Rustic Pearl is located in the heart of Surry Hills. This area is renowned for some smashing and spectacular restaurants and this place my friends is a must go to venue for any Surry Hills checklist. I was dying to try this place for a while now but every time I got here I just arrived after they shut :(. So this time I chose Saturday to pop by and make it happen. I arrived into the place and was surprised about how small it was inside. They got about 5 tables inside and maybe 3 outside. So the whole place sits about 15-20 people. We popped our names on the list to be seated. We were waiting about 10 minutes to be seated which was great. We were seated inside and the decor was simplistic but quirky with some cool paintings and cool gadgets and things like retro vintage Nokia phones and Superman toys. I had just finished lunch was so wasn't enough room for anymore food so I was only interested in drinks. I had heard this place did an AWESOME hot chocolate so that was a must for me. I ordered the Hot Chocolate and my friend decided to go for a chocolate smoothie. This was a Belgian Dark Chocolate served in a Bowl because sometimes a cup just isn't good enough. The Chocolate comes with an option to have it flavoured with with a rose water or citrus & orange blossom. I decided to go rose this time. The combination blended beautifully and each sip out of the cup was a taste of heaven. Another worthy candidate for Sydney's too hot chocolate offerings. My friend ordered a Chocomolé Smoothie. This is basically an Avocado blended with cocoa and honey topped with pistachio. Boy was this a good pick. It's beautifully displayed and the blend is a killer combo because it's just so refreshing and different then any other chocolate smoothies I've tried. The guy who was sitting next to us came in and ordered one too. He was like man I've been dreaming about the Chocomolé. The food coming out of the kitchen looked impressed here as well and "I will be Back" ( sorry couldn't help it was at Terminator today ).

    Lobster benedict
    Monica V.

One of the best on CROWN St for sure. The background music was cute and food delicious. Lobster benedict was a nice change for breakfast. Couldn't have it veery weekend but It was definitely a good pick to try. Coffee was decent here too. A couple of drawbacks - the service wasn't great. Staff rushed us through our meal and weren't super friendly. Also, the cafe is super tiny so you are really squeezed in. Having said that, I'd still go back.

Everything is true!! It is a must go in the heart of SH! Really nice café! I recommend the lobster benedicts: delicious! The staff is really nice and the food is excellent and tasty! One of my favorite coffee in Surry Hills.

    Fika K.

Waited for more than half an hour, not impressed. But.... Turns out it was worth to wait! Every second of it. My friend ordered the infamous Bosphorus Benne and the lobster is quite generous. The cured-beef dish is not to be missed either! Overall food-wise are amazing, the 'customised menu' juices are to die for. Staff?? Hmmn not so much. I feel they are a bit disengage/ not care. If you go there, you're definitely going for the food.

    Joanna L.

Absolutely love this place, favorite all time brunch place. The food and service here never disappoints. All time favorite is the bosphorous Benedict, absolutely delightful. Quick tip. If you don't want to wait in line you can always give the cafe a call beforehand and place your name on the list on your way there.

At the time I was there, there was only one other person who sat indoors. The interior design of this restaurant is modern yet elegant - had some middle eastern touches on its design. Upon looking at the sample menu in the front, my eyesight glued upon chicken pilavs (Turkish style risotto) as it has cream sauce and was pan tossed with sliced mushrooms, cubed chickens and shallots. It was definitely tasty like what the menu described. It has lemony taste, the pilavs was soft yet chewy and the cream was in right proportion to linger the tastebuds. It was still hot when it was served and realized that just after I put a spoonful of it in the mouth. Tried the lemon lime bitters. It was actually soda with syrup. Was fizzy when it was served and you would need to stir the bottom to mix the beverage. Was pretty good as it has strong fruity taste that I yearn for. Overall, price wise it was pretty high for me but probably on the normal range for Australian market. The lady who served me was also cheerful and asked me how was the food. Seemed like many people had commented "loved it" that she wasn't responding to my comment. Will be back again if I'm craving for more risottos.

This is a sliver of a place downstairs. You'll have to turn sideways to slide past the Bar and then hike up steep stairs to the Dining Room. If you've had a knee replacement or want one this spot may not be for you. The alternative is to squeeze up to the Bar and holler for your Kofte. The Dining Room on the second floor feels like some Turkish Tax Collector's home all done up in dark wood, print wall paper, soft lighting and room is louder than Turkey's last coup. Limber up for mad texting to your dinner companions or bring a megaphone. The Staff: As efficient as Turkish Civil Servants despite their youth. It has to be tiring running up and down the stairs all night although the servers all gave up going to the gym. The kitchen is floors below, so you'll have to be quick to snag a server when they do appear. The Bar: Turkish Wines (might as well have been from Kansas), some other eclectica, and a signature cocktail or two. The Raki Sour will put you between a Raki and a hard place. Raki is the National pastime of Anise flavored liquor with Lemon and a bit of Simple Syrup with muddled Mint. I wanted to be all muddled after one but that was tough as the drink comes in a pregnant thimble. You'll have to have five of them if you want this Turk to work. The Vibe: Enmore Means Enmore for me. It's a hood in transition as Paddington prices have pushed the population here. Stanbuli is for those bored with Boreks and done with Doner and passe Pizza. The Food: Here, it's divided into small and not so small share plates. (Not good for only children.) Some plates come with two tiny bites, some come in a pile requiring a crew and a construction permit. True, man can't live by bread alone unless it's the Ekmek served here. Baked in house daily with a slight tang of fermentation it shows up oven hot with a solid crust wrapped around a soft crumb waiting to be slathered with Smoked Butter. I could easily live on this alone. It's fabulous. The Mezze mostly have something to do with mashed Eggplant and Lemony Dressing to the point where dishes lose their individual identity. For example, the Patlican Salada and the Coban Salada were interchangeable parts and basically Tabouli 1.0 and 2.0. The Scallops came at room temperature. (Where were they hiding, what were they doing and why?) These Scallops were leaning against more mashed Eggplant and seemed tired with the effort. The Cauliflower was Sumac-y and settled in a pool of Olive Oil. (thankfully devoid of Eggplant). This basically belonged in the "Eat Your Vegetables" column. The Octopus arms were all curled up around each other like the morning after the Swinger's Party. They were boiled, then broiled, and pushed into a mound of Tarama (Smoked Fish Roe mashed into mashed Potatoes). No complaints about this one. If you like Octopus, you're gonna be sad when you say farewell to these arms. The Lamb Kofte came one to an order and no bigger than a cocktail weenie. Need five? That's $90 for party food. Was it magic? Only insofar as the $90 disappeared in a blink. Tasty? It was MEH-zze. The Sardines had a quick broil in Lemony Olive Oil. Want some head? They are all looking at you mournfully and giving you the Sardine Stink Eye. All the scratchy little bones will brush down the roof of your mouth like a Chimney Sweep. Deboning them will require a Jeweler's Loop and a pair of miniature tweezers. Better to just lick one once and take the rest home to Tabbitha the Cat. Rice Pilav came late to the party and was nutty and buttery although it paled compare to that terrific Ekmek. The rice was nice but unnecessary by the time it arrived. The Lamb Chops were stacked up like the ruins at Ephesus. They were thin but worth a good gnaw. Acting like a pack of wolves on a fresh kill is encouraged. Your companions will be joyfully yipping as grease rolls down their chins. Stanbuli did not make me hanker, ah, for Ankara but I did leave as full as Kapalicarsi Market in Istanbul.

Its directly across the road from the Bull n Bush hotel and there is heaps of parking both on the street out the front and behind the restaurant. Unlike El Jannah you don't have to queue forever and you can also actually get a seat as well. I don't know how long that will all last but for now its awesome. They do a chicken wrap with chips and a can of drink for a little over ten bucks and you can get it eat in or take away. There's a large indoor dining area with a big screen tv on the wall and also quite a few tables and chairs out on the street as well. They have a huge range of other things on the menu but I can't really comment about them as I'm just a massive fan of their chicken wraps and chips with heaps of extra garlic sauce. If you like El Jannah or Inflames then try Sultans Grill.
