The management here treats their employees like garbage whether they have worked there since the…read morecompany took over the campgrounds and the marina or if they just started. The girls (so called bosses and, for the record, I wouldn't say so if even the slightest hint of maturity and or honestly and decency had been shown), yes, the girls do nothing but bicker back and forth to each other about everyone they can and attempt to get anyone they don't like in trouble like a bunch of high school kids with no respect for their customers or their employees. They recently forced the men to keep their pay the same while all the high school kids got raises and stated, "You will not get a raise until the high school kids wage matches yours. We are tired of them complaining." The "kids, technically new adults" lie about the adults that work there and are believed over staff that have worked there for over a decade and are actually believed by the two supposed boss' (the bickering girls in the main office that have lost the business 90% of their customers) despite direct evidence to the contrary. Why? Because if you're on their list of people they dislike they will not only disbelieve you but threaten you and your family if you don't change your story and pretend that things are all right and going just the way they want it to. The management uses their "security" cameras to pretend people are doing things they are not, i.e. stealing when you are stocking, playing with yourself when you are simply scratching or moving something due to the job forcing you into awkward positions having to fill boats on the water and things tend to get pinched! You're not allowed to defend yourself or refute their exaggerated and often fallacious claims. The Ruth Lake Community Services Districted used to shine light a lamp light in an oasis, now it is a rundown business run by cackling harpies ready to scoop your guts out after they are through torturing you. Do yourself a favor. Don't work here. Don't visit here or the Ruth Lake Campgrounds. Don't force yourself to regret attempting to visit Ruth anymore. The roads are garbage and have slid out in many places...for years now, the businesses, with the exception or Journy's End which is still a great place, are a joke and the heart ache you receive from your treatment will haunt you forever. I hope this helps prevent further painful memories. Best wishes on your next vacation. Sincerely, -Tortured in Ruth

So yesterday 9/5 I rented a boat from the Ruth Lake Marina for my family I. we were about an hour…read moreand half in when most of us jumped in the lake to swim. It wasnt until we all tried to get back up that we realized the fold ladder to the boat was broken! It looked like it was ripped off almost where the second part of the ladder was supposed to be it was jagged metals peices sticking out. The owner tied a rope to the part where the second piece should be before we rented it, well that didnt work because the 1 high up step and a rope to use it took us 20 minutes to try and get back on with the help of my family pulling each other back up. When I tried by myself I gouged my leg twice and my friend bruised her hand pulling herself up. I called the marina and they said if we brought the boat back you can get a refund but they have no other boats. I asked if we could keep the boat and just not swim and get a discount he said he would call me back after asking the manager, but didnt think I would get one..no sorry or anything. We decided to stay and try not to let it ruin our time since we drove 2 hours to get there. I never got the phone call from them because of my iffy service out there, but when I returned the boat i explained to a woman working there about what had happened and she admitted that we should have been informed before renting the boat and the guy said he told the people before us but forgot to tell us about it. When I asked if we could still get some sort of discount since the boat wasnt fully functional they said no. What kind of customer service is that? I spent the full $275 plus gas to get my leg gouged and cut. Idk if you can tell by the picture but it was a deep cut! It stopped bleeding after 45 minutes, I'm just glad no one drown that day which could've easily happened

She wasn't pushy at all and didn't upsell me anything - just gave me all the tips and info. We decided on a tandem snowmobile for an hour with a guide. We arrived 20 minutes late but she was so professional - she shortened and made the check in process so easy. There was a cabin with fire where you can change since Deer Mountain was quite cold and was snowing that day desolate the snow drought. She was mega attentive and taught us everything and told us exactly where we were going. She took couple of pictures for us and explained what we'll see had it not been so foggy. On the way back when we stopped at a viewpoint my boyfriend accidentally accelerated and we toppled right where the cliff started - Michele rushed over and helped us up and we genuinely concerned for our well being. We're so grateful she was our guide and can't recommend her enough. She's an amazing person with a beautiful smile and we definitely suggest everyone go snowmobile with her, especially first timers!

There is Table Bluff Lighthouse which is a very small Lighthouse but cute all the same. It is kept up well and is one that lighthouse buffs may like. Nearby is a fishermans memorial where you can see a list of people who have been lost at sea in the area over the years. There is a large fisherman statue there as well as part of the memorial. My most recent visit, Dungeness Crabs are in season after a delayed start! This small commerical marina actually has several docks running alphabetically, A through G - signage on the road frontage letting the passersby know what the mornings catch is and today it was our amazing local crab and our world class Kumamoto oysters, these petite beauties are a famous staple on the north coast waters here on Humboldt Bay. A marina coffeshop with restaurant are on site that has okay food and a full bar, there is also a charter house where some fishing vessels can be reserved by the hour, half day, day or longer. There is a Fisherman of the Sea memorial to all those who've made the ultimate sacrifice, working on the north coasts unforgiving and often dangerous waters. Ample parking at all the different docks. The coast guard also maintains a presence at this marina as well. The public can visit the docks and enjoy the views of old town waterfront, of the marina and Humboldt Bay out to the Pacific Ocean. A cool marina, where you can purchase freshly caught seafood right off the boat. Definately worth a visit and stop if you like fresh seafood, big commercial fishing boats, or just being on the water. 4 Stars 00669

I attempted to make a reservation for the harbor tour with Captain Dan for my anniversary. When I called I reached a voicemail inbox and began to leave a message, but in the middle of it someone picked up - no greeting or other info, just a very brusque "hello?" Out of simple curiosity I asked if they ever do whale watching trips at other times of year, but was abruptly interrupted by the person shouting, "why doesn't anyone ever look at the website, we don't do that here!!" I was so taken aback that I apologized and hung up. The tour genuinely looks like it would be lovely and I was interested in what Captain Dan would be able to tell us about! But I'm not about to risk continuing to being treated so rudely on a special occasion.

Booking online was super easy, we were sent a confirmation email with a number to call to confirm our tour time. Since the availability of the tour in really dependent on the tide, we did call back a couple weeks ahead to confirm and pay for the tour. Kristin helped us though the process and made it really easy and painless. Captain Dan was super nice. I appreciate all the stories and knowledge he shared about the harbor, who does what in each boat, the surrounding properties, his time in Alaska, and more. Such great conversations. We got pretty lucky because there was a couple boats selling tuna and cleaning fish so there was a lot of sea lions and seals around waiting for fish. We were on an electric boat, so it was really quiet and didn't scare away the marine life and we were able to get up close. We got to see lots of beautiful birds, he had even told us which ones to watch because they dive down and catch fish. And we did see one catch a fish! It was so cool. Such an amazing experience we'd go again the next time we're out in the area. I definitely recommend!
