I'm here from out of state and needed to register my vehicle. Flawless experience!!! I'm used to having to wait weeks for an appointment and even with that having to "take a number" to be seen. It was brutal. This experience was the exact opposite! I just showed up, thinking it would take hours but I needed to get it done. Boy, was I wrong! There were people being served at the windows and one gentleman in front of me in line. I may have waited 5 minutes. Upon approaching the window, I was greeted warmly and handed over all my documentation. The clerk was efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. I did not get her name but we talked about her traveling to Burbank, CA to visit family (I'm from CA), the kids getting into digital arts, etc..If the staff knows who I'm referring to, please give her kudos for making this out-of-towner feel comfortable. We were late to the passport appointment by 5 minutes and the lady in the counter would not even help us. She just kept saying that we have to reschedule. And the kicker is... there was no body else in line! It was just us and she would not help us because we were a few minutes late! I would have totally understand if there were other people waiting in line. But there were NONE! Just wow.. plain bad customer service. I even explained that I had to take off from work to be there and my son (who needs to the passport) had to take off school, but did they show any compassion? Noooo... they simply do not care. I guess she knows we need them so it's a real power trip for her. Just the kind of people that we should NOT have in our government office. read more

This office is a very consistent office - Consistent long lines, consistent poor customer service, consistently over priced for the "service" provided. What could the people of Rutherford county possibly have done to deserve this poor service? Are they mad at us? As citizens of Rutherford County, we are FORCED to go through this office for any clerical government nonsense. There are 280,000 people in Rutherford county. Maybe 2 windows open at lunch time on a Friday afternoon was a poor logistical decision. Also - Paying 2.25 percent + $.25 on all electronic transactions is a bit of an archaic tradition. Please keep up with the rest of the world's transaction practices and absorb your electronic transaction fees into your costs. Just because you are being overcharged for an electronic transaction doesn't mean we are the ones who should suffer for it. As a government entity, you should have no problem negotiating a reduced fee. Also - It would probably be a good idea to have some music playing for the 20+ deep line you have formed to the door. Silence keeps us all on edge. I have faith that as a backwards, useless, small government entity none of these issues will be addressed. Regarding closing time at clerks office. My experience has been if your in the parking lot at 4 o'clock they will get u in to be waited on. If the doors r locked they can't let you in or they would be there all day. The drive thru has a sign that tells you they r closed. If you pull up after that close light is on your not going to be waited on. No brainer rite. Try being a nice customer. Maybe your the problem not the clerks. I always have great service in Smyrna. I won't drive to murfreesboro they are not as helpful. read more

I arrived a minute before closing at four and waited behind two cars. The car ahead of me was helped, but by the time I got up to the drive through window, they closed the blinds on me and would not let me renew my tag. Incredibly rude customer service when I was the only person still waiting in line. Too bad there's pretty much nothing I can do about it because, if I want to drive a car, I have to pay the county clerk's office. read more
