I rely on compounded medications and I think they're great. Other pharmacies have given my family stress, but not this one.

So we're all supposed to be pulling for the little guy, right? Especially after the pandemic and the election, a certain little blue state is all about the "Down with Big Pharma", "support local businesses"me", and all that dross. Well, I'm afraid that our very own local darlings over at good ol' "Smilin' Steve's" (STEVEN HOCHBER) Rutland Pharmacy are putting the kibosh to all that and undermining their own agenda. I recently (4/2025) gave in and finally had my prescriptions sent across town to the big bad corporate overlords at Walmart. (And I tell you, by the way, that whoever was working at Wally's was exceedingly polite and efficient, not to mention that the "McCoroporation" has a super-tight phone system, much UNLIKE the antiquated prompts they make you go through at Rutland Pharmacy.) The final straw for me in regards to Rutland Pharmacy's poor service came after they denied me my meds for over a MONTH because of some kind of insurance hassle. Worse yet, after I was rebuffed and asked to speak with a manager, he flat out refused to give his name or put me through to a superior. Most likely the "manger" was either JEFF or JASON, Steve's sons who have taken over the business and are clearly exploiting their father's reputation as a pillar of the local community. The boy who was answering calls, JACOB, was also very rude, but I can hardly hold an effeminate child with acne accountable for their actions when they have such terrible role-models. So basically Rutland Pharmacy deserves what it has coming. The facts are that I NEVER got my meds on time, I NEVER got good customer service, they NEVER followed up with me about my medications or made an effort to get my input. My doctor was forever having to call in their scripts and they couldn't even be bother to keep my records up to date when my insurance information changed. Forget about trying to arrange home delivery. In conclusion, don't fooled into that old tired ploy to "shop local" and support the poor mom n' pops if the business doesn't put forth the proper effort or display even basic customer service. Corporate entities still pay taxes like any other business, and are more likely to employ a greater number of people from the community. There's no sense pulling for the home team if the home team ain't pulling for you. read more

After learning from my insurance company that the pharmacy was (their words not mine) "incompetently billing" my prescriptions- I switched to Freedom pharmacy in Williston who also bubble packs medications. Despite the 2 owners becoming defensive and swearing on their families that my insurance company was lying to me and that they weren't billing incorrectly... my monthly medications now cost 50% of what they did with Rutland pharmacy. They also refused to look into Tier level exceptions to decrease my copays- stating that nothing could be done to decrease the $150 copay amount for my needed heart medications. This also turned out to be false and they simply needed to call the insurance company to make that happen. Instead, I was overcharged for 8 months this year. I highly recommend looking into other pharmacies as there is clearly a disconnect between Ritland pharmacy and insurance companies. There is also a disingenuous, defensive and rude manner the owners both feel comfortable speaking to customers in. Please work to serve your customers better Rutland Pharmacy! read more

After using Rutland Pharmacy for over 30 years, we have switched to another pharmacy. My husband had double bypass surgery. They were less than helpful (actually rude) about filling his prescriptions. They denied receiving the prescriptions, even after I double checked with the hospital. We will be moving all our prescriptions to another pharmacy. read more

I have been a customer of Rutland Pharmacy for many years and have purchased expensive durable medical equipment there as well. Recently, however, I have received very poor customer service from one of the owners himself and will no longer do business with Rutland Pharmacy. read more

i prefer to support a local business instead of going to a chain pharmacy. they may take a bit longer, it may smell a bit like a nursing home, but they offer compounding meaning you can fill any special/rare script. the girls that work at the counter are extremely nice and accommodating. my only complaint - they only keep one or two of each item on the shelves and all normal drugstore items are priced higher than they should be - again, I have no problem with an extra couple of dollars to support a local business, but it's not worth it here especially because the selection is so limited. i will continue to get my scripts filled here until they close, unless something sends me to another pharmacy. read more

Dependable and excellent service! Any questions are always fully answered by professional pharmacists who show concern for their customers. Excellent hours and drive-up window service is easy to use and dependable. Rutland Pharmacy always has very helpful employees who are able and willing to help all their customers' with concerns and questions! Rutland is very lucky to have this high quality and professionally run pharmacy! In my opinion, Rutland Pharmacy qualifies and is the best of the area's best drug stores. I have been going to Rutland Pharmacy for 5 years. I used to think they were great but recently that have hired some very rude employees. They had entered my prescription wrong and when I had asked why it changed they dismissed me and treated me like I was drug seeking when it was a mistake they made. They refused to listen to me and even snapped her fingers in my face and said next. Before I was even able to leave they were loudly talking about me while I was still in the store. I went my doctor's and they told me the pharmacy made a mistake and to go back there. I asked to have an apology from the woman who was so extremely rude to me and they would not have come out even though it was there mistake. Even if they didn't make a mistake they should never treat people like that. I'm going to find a new pharmacy. read more
