First 2 times the IRS caught it a sent it back to H& R. We went in to make corrections to mistakes H & R made. THIRD year, we got hit from IRS owing money and pay in a 1/5 penalty. We will NEVER go back to H & R block again. Then when you call them about the mistake. They say, did you pay $100 for audit insurance. I have to pay $120 penalty for ME to find your mistake and $100 in insurance to find your mistake? GOOD BYE!

The new CPA had to be very organized, responsive, and use technology to collaborate in more of a "distributed / remote" way. Of course, we also wanted someone who was ethical in their approach to tax laws, and had high core competency around tax laws for small business, medical and health related expenses, homeschooling, as well as investments. Kareena Sharma of KS Tax and Financial Services met all of our requirements from day one. When I reached out to her, she quickly responded back to setup an intro call. She was clear about her office's core competencies, what staff she had available, and offered to research some nuanced questions we had. Once we got the final results of our completed tax filings, we were impressed. We got better results than what our previous CPA had estimated in October of last year. Hoorah! I also loved the time saving of working with her, sharing all of our documents on a secure platform, where we could simultaneously work on the them. No more insecure emails or keeping track of who has which version of a document. What's more, she completed all filings and setup a web conference call, even though she's somewhat local to us. This saved us the time to drive back and forth, while still being able to meet "face to face" via video. Since then, I've also learned she works with clients across different states, using the same online tools and web conference capabilities. This is why I personally recommended her to all of my friends and family across the US. Give her a try. I think you'll be impressed!

The fist time that I had a bad experience with Mariette was when I had scheduled a telephone conversation with her weeks in advance. Then just before the meeting, she asked to reschedule. I'm busy too, but I understand if we have to reschedule. However, she is booked weeks in advance and to have to reschedule an appointment with Mariette can now take about a month from the first time that you wanted to talk to her. I then asked to be rescheduled to a different date and time that she suggested. I called her at the time we had scheduled and I didn't know that she had scheduled with someone else at that time. She said that I had asked for that time, but that she didn't confirm that appointment with me. She said that I had to request that appointment within a 72 hour window. I understand what she means, but she also didn't tell me that she couldn't make that appointment with me because she gave it to someone else. So here I am with an appointment in my calendar to discuss something with her that I wanted to tell her about a month ago and if I have to reschedule again then I have to wait another couple of weeks. Then she told me that she would call me, but never did. I actually think that Mariette is a victim of her own success. I'm sure that she's good. I'm sure that she knows what she is doing. But I'm also sure that she is too busy for me and inconsiderate of my time. I see how many 5 star reviews that Mariette has and I realize that this one star review goes completely against what others have written. But none of the other reviews are from a Yelp Elite member or with anyone with more than a handful of reviews. And I seldom give a one star review.
