I've been seeing Ryan for a few years, and he's an OK dentist. I've had two fillings done (both of which he spotted on the X-rays before they hurt). One I had to have adjusted a few times (which he did for free, of course). One was great right off the bat. When I complained of pain in my gums, the staff took X-rays, found nothing, and suggested some toothbrush and toothpaste changes which have helped. I gave a 3 star because the oral hygienists generally slash up my gums pretty good, and I'm sore for a couple days. read more

Moved in from out the area and made appointemts for my wife and I 2 months in advance. Week before appointments we find out (not by their notificacation but because we called to confirm the appontment) that the dentist will not be availabile. Reception says they will reschedule and call us with new apointments. Called them 3 times, never got back. Total loser flakes. read more

I needed to find a dentist in SLO while I was attending Cal Poly and I am SO glad I found Dr. Ross! The receptionist was so kind and always greets you at the door. Since parking is limited, I had to park in a meter out front. The receptionist gave me quarters for the meter and while I was getting my teeth cleaned by seriously the most down to earth hygienist ever, my car ran out of time and the receptionist went out and fed my meter. Since this was my first time at Dr. Ross' office I was given a Welcome Gift. I have never received a gift from a dentist, so sweet!! When Dr. Ross came into read my x-rays he was so nice and honest. I have only seen him once, so this review is based on limited information. But, I look for something specific in a clinician- honesty. Are they the best to perform a particular procedure? Does the procedure make sense- is it the best direction to go with my health? Or is it their finances they are interested in? That sounds mercenary, and I do not mean it to be. After months of Co-Vid, some are financially struggling. I am, myself, a clinician. I work HARD to try to make sure that what I tell a patient, and what I do with a patient is the BEST I have. It takes more time, and it is sometimes more time consuming, but it may help the person on ways you will never know. But cost must always be considered- costs to the patient and their family. It is hard to find a really good dentist. Theirs is a tough business. They have an office, staff, benefits to pay, salaries- including their own, insurance, neck problems, etc. The more time they spend with a patient, the less they make ( fast in fast out- more money). To be really good though, and apply the rules in the first two paragraph- most ca not do it. Except Dr. Ross. He is very wise, compassionate, and considerate. I did not feel rushed. I felt his advise was sage, and that he weighed the options. When he was done with his assessment, he asked if I had any questions. Simple, but unfortunately, pretty rare. What a pleasure to have Dr Ross as my dentist!!! I just recently switched dentists and have been so incredibly happy I came to this practice. Dr Ross and his staff are very professional and personal, taking the time to get to know you as a patient. I really appreciated that step before they did any cleanings or dental work! I just had a filling yesterday and it was the fastest easiest filling I have ever had! I even said during the procedure that Dr Ross and his assistant are like a well oiled machine! My friend recently had surgery, my dentist was busy ( Stephen Quist ) and doesn't work Fridays...My dentist told em they often refer to Ryan Ross, and so we called for my friend made an appointment next day ( and that is never easy to squeeze someone in) and they went out of their way to take care of my freind, she ended up having lockjaw from surgery. I highly recommend them, and plan on using them when my dentist is busy- he is a very nice considerate man and highly knowledgeable, amazing staff and every person that walked in looked happy to enter a dentist office, which is amazing in my book. read more

I love this practice! I started seeing Dr Ryan Ross when he was an associate with another dentist, and i was so very happy when he opened his own practice. I love everything about this office. Since that time, he has opened in a new facility and it is better than ever! Everything is new state of the art, from the decor to the equiptment. They welcome me when i come in like an old friend. The entire staff is so friendly and professional, I have had nothing but great experiences here. Truth be told, I am not their easiest patient. Some aspects of my treatment have been challenging. Dr Ross has worked closely with me to take care of all my dental needs, and he has always been upfront and honest about his recommendations for care. I have the utmost confidence in his treatment, and he makes sure that I am happy and always follows up after treatment, to make sure that I am comfortable. I've had my up and downs with Dr. Ross and his staff. I believe sometimes they forget it's business not personal. And what's yelp for if not to state your opinion. Anyway as of recent, they have actually left me two messages to remind me that I need my teeth checked again (and rightly so). Also were able to schedule me right away for an adjustment to a a stayplate (partial). For now I hope my ability to work with them in an amicably polite environment will continue. Have no plans on looking to other dentists. This area HAS some real terrible dentists who probably should not be practicing anymore. Awesome dental experience which is definitely hard to come by! I've always had a fear of going to the dentist so it's been a while since I've gotten any dental work done, even with years of dental insurance. After a friend recommended Dr. Ross, I reluctantly made an appointment for a check up. Not only was I NOT disappointed but I was thoroughly impressed with the kind, gentle, and knowledgeable staff. Great experience! Have not been at a dentist in 15+ years, and they treated me like I was not an outcast! Dr. Ross donated into a silent auction I attended for his services that I won. Upon making a reservation, I was greeted with smiles from all the staff including Annie, and also a gift basket for winning the auction! Dr Ross was to-the-point, and did not sugar coat the issues with one's teeth. He was very thorough, and took the extra time to make you feel you were the only one in his practice. Also Lisa the Hygienist was top-notch! I was dreading to hear, "You need to floss..." and never got the lecture from her. Thank you, Lisa! Dr. Ryan Ross is an outstanding dentist and a kind and gentle man. I highly recommend him. He is not only a true professional with great bedside matter but his work is impeccable. My son had his entire month crowned by Dr. Ross and I personally have never seen such beautiful crowns. I can not tell that the teeth are crowns because the new teeth look so natural in color and in shape. I have also been seen by Dr. Ross as a patient and both my son and I agree that his work is excellent and we feel grateful to have him as our dentist. I must add that his staff is top notch. I've been going to Dr. Ross for a few years and always had pleasant experiences. I recently came in for a check up and mentioned some sensitivity, and he said I needed a crown, which is normal. When I was having the crown put on, it was so ill fitted that it took about 10 minutes of him wrenching on my tooth to get it off (before it was even cemented) which caused my gums to become bruised and raw. The pain increased and caused ulcers in my mouth, which I went back and they said I needed a root canal. They were going to proceed with a root canal without putting me on antibiotics, which I disagreed with. I went elsewhere to have my root canal, and when I contacted them afterwards to discuss that I was unhappy, the woman I spoke with was immediately defensive and condescending, saying my opinion was incorrect because I was not a doctor nor have dental experience. When she was trying to back herself up, she listed something she had on my chart that was COMPLETELY INCORRECT which shows that none of that I had explained over the years was written down correctly. The experience was painful enough, but having someone from my doctors office be so completely rude and condescending after I had to spend thousands of dollars to fix a tooth and not even apologize once for the experience, and then tell me I am wrong in my opinion is just ridiculous. I also have other medical records to support what you have listed on my chart as wrong... I am just baffled. read more

I recently had the unfortunate occur, a broken tooth, which prompted a visit to Dr. Ross. I don't normally write reviews on Yelp or any other online rating service but my experience with Dr. Ross was so unexpectedly incredible it prompted my desire to log on and write this review. They only allow 5 star ratings but Dr. Ross is definitely over the top - 10 stars. Seriously, no one really likes to go to the dentist, having a person or several persons routing around in your mouth with multiple instruments, the sound of that drill, the discomfort of needles, and not to even mention the cost of all that pleasure. But I have to say that Dr Ross and his staff made my experience there almost pleasurable. I think this was the first time that I have been to a dentist where I felt not one bit of pain or discomfort, it was almost unbelievable to me but all true. I had been struggling with a food pocket in my upper back molars and after my visits to Dr. Ross that was completely taken care of and I have not had any discomfort or issues with the tooth or gums since. Dr. Ross is nothing short of a genius. We were on our way to a family wedding in San Luis Obispo, somewhere south of Santa Barbara, when I found Dr. Ross' contact info and called his office from the car. My mom had just broken a front tooth off at the root, and with it came the one next to it that had been cantilevered to it, many years ago. She was distraught, thinking she'd have to go through the entire weekend and her grand daughter's wedding, with a gapping hole in her smile. We clearly needed to look for someone to help and not knowing anyone in the SLO area, I googled dentists in the general vicinity and found Dr. Ross' contact info, along with several very positive reviews. His receptionist was so lovely; she knew we weren't going to make it to SLO before end of the day, but she offered to make room early the next morning for Dr. Ross to see my mom. When he did, it didn't look promising at all, but he came up with an ingenious solution and by 3 PM that afternoon, with the help of the lab, mom's two teeth were back in place and she was able to attend the rehearsal dinner, wedding and all the related events with smile in tact.
