Wanted to write a shout out to dental hygienist Theresa Pena of Copp Dental, who my husband and I have followed around the SLO county area to various dental offices for 20 + years. Theresa is an ultimate hygiene professional, knowledgeable and committed to her work. She is thorough, patient-focused, doesn't 'cut corners', and is also friendly to boot. My mother, a hygienist for 40 + years, who also had patients follow her from one location to another over the years, also singled Theresa out from other hygienists she had seen (she never disclosed while 'in the chair' that she was in the profession). Office experience was not great. I called to schedule an initial apt, and was told by one of the office lady's she would submit a pre authorization to my insurance for the visit. Just to be called 2 weeks later to be told by the "insurance lady" that they don't submit preauthorizations for initial visits.... What a waste of time waiting for nothing after I was told one thing. I was referred to Copp Dental Group by a family friend. Since i am in SLO for college and haven't had any dental emergencies in my time here, I only have my primary dentist back home in the Bay Area. I needed a dentist because of an intense tooth and jaw pain growing increasingly more painful and unbearable by the day. I was consulted by Dr. Michael Roberts and the experience wasn't the most pleasant. Dr. Roberts lacked warmth and empathy and didn't seem to listen to all of my complaints of my tooth pain. He didn't seem empathetic to my pain at all. He chalked it up to grinding my teeth and clenching my jaw and suggested I get a mouth guard. He also mentioned seeing an endodontist may be in my future if the pain doesn't go away. The mouth guard did not help after one night, in fact the pain was worse. I called the office back and luckily they found an endodontist who would see me the very next day. The stars are given because 1. they fit me in the day after I called for the emergency visit. 2. the dental hygienist was very kind and empathetic. 3. they were able to book me an endo appointment for the next day. P.S. the problem ended up being a periodontal abscess found just 3 days later by another dentist. read more

Dr Copp is a great dentist and a good guy. I had a dental emergency today (a Saturday) though admittedly the emergency was probably more psychological and cosmetic than medical or dental. Nevertheless he came into the office and made me good as new because he understood how uncomfortable I was. Additionally the office has adhered to COVID safety protocols which made appts a whole lot less stressful these past few years. I'm a big fan. read more

I've been with Dr. Copp for a couple years now. Not a single complaint. He's very thorough and takes the time to talk over your options and is full of information. I chipped one of my front teeth back in high school and it was just a nightmare to deal with. Other dentists composite work would last 6 months if I was lucky, and it never felt natural drove me nuts! With Dr. Copp it lasted two years and probably would have lasted longer if I didn't eat that apple. Feels and looks natural, I actually forget about most of the time. read more

First let me say that Dr Copp is an excellent dentist. I have been with him for many years now with a total of approximately 20 years in that office prior with the late Bob Campbell. So to write this review is not fun but necessary. During my regular visits of late, I have not had access to Dr Copp. One appt I sat waiting for him after my cleaning for 20 - 30 minutes and he nor the other drs ever came in to check me. So, I got up and walked out. Which brings me to another point. This business has grown into a larger corporation with a total of three dentists. When I broke a crown this past Monday, I called right away to get in. The soonest appt given was Friday of the same week. Of course after a couple of days, my cheek was scraped and inflamed with pain as well. So, I decided to call someone else to get in sooner. Just a warning, if you are looking for more dedicated, personal care which used to be provided, you may want to check out some other options. read more

While doctor Copp is an excellent dentist, he is not a member of Delta Dental. Furthermore his office pushes for procedures that are unnecessary and expensive. One example: He sent me to Dr. Gholian because he thought I needed a root canal. The cost to me was going to be over $1,000. Because the pandemic started, I did not do the procedure, and later on, I returned to Dr. Gholian's, whose office had been taken over by Dr. Fu. After a thorough exam, Dr. Fu did not see any need for a root canal and said: "if it's not broken, don't fix it". This saved me $1,000. A similar thing happened with my tooth cleaning. In the past, it cost me nothing because of my insurance. This time, it cost me around $400. So, yes it is a good office and everyone is friendly, but it will cost you a lot more than other dental offices that are just as good. read more

I have never liked the dentist before coming here. I had my first appointment today and I'm really happy and impressed. Lexi and Dr. Alina answered about 50 questions for me and explained everything. They made me comfortable and I felt like I actually knew what the process of everything was. Jessica in the office was so nice, got me in on earlier based on a cancellation, and is easy to communicate with via texts from the office software. Very nice people in this group! I sought them out because they seemed to have the most diverse staff (which most places tend to occupy old white men grinding away at your teeth) and both Heiyi (sp?) And I believe Alexa (although I may be wrong) were incredibly kind, helpful, and really made sure I was comfortable and had the best experience possible. I'm usually very anxious at dentist appointments, but this was a positive change, with lots of kinda and helpful people who just want you to look and feel your best. Also, box waters!! read more
