The secretary was friendly but curt. Mr. Okrent was timely, but has a very casual approach. He drew pictures to explain things, which ultimately one would think would facilitate. Unfortunately, we left more confused than when we got there. We had a lot of questions, and he kept cutting us off. Very unprofessional. I was well prepared and had all my necessary paperwork. He still really couldn't help me. I felt like I wasted my time. I know I wasted my money. He does deserve some credit, as he educated me regarding one item. He also had a nice assortment of candy at the reception desk. The consultation price was high. The office was not well lit, and we sat at a table that reminded me of my elementary school cafeteria. The experience was very negative regarding to the entire process, not due to David only, but everything that has to do with law and the court process. I feel it would be service to the general public to know. We really don't have a legal system for citizens, it's really just a government sanctioned game designed to enrich the lawyers. Summary: In short, my experience was six years long, an outcome that yielded no results, and on top of it, payment out of my pocket of in excess of $20,000 in fees to David. Details: Upon my initial consultation with David, I was told I had a very strong case, and case it was fairly cut and dry. I objectively had in excess of $50,000 in damages. An attorney's game seems to be to raise expectations at the beginning to acquire the client and the case, then as the case progresses, lower expectations, cumulating in advise at the very end of the process to "settle" as the other side has an "unexpectedly" valid case. We went through it all: various paperwork, motions, depositions, jury selection, etc. Incredible that so simple a case can be dragged out for SIX years. Looking back at it, the whole thing was a total farce. The attorney you select, the one that you are counting on to be on your side, will in all probability urge you at the VERY LAST MINUTE to settle and drop the case. Then as a condolence, he/she will say "well, at least the other side probably had to pay an equal amount in attorneys fees, so at least the opposing side didn't get off scott-free." What a total joke. We have no real system of justice in this country. The system has been corrupted by the lawyers to enrich themselves. Beware. ------------ In short, don't bother hiring an attorney unless it's on a "contingency basis" only. Unless an attorney has skin in the game, you are just going to be taken to the cleaners.
