One of our favorite stops on our trip! We appreciated you could drive through certain parts but the rest you were able to walk through at your own pace. The open concept also allows you to circle back to any animals who may have been hiding the first time! Very family friendly. Can bring all the snacks and bags that you need or leave in the car and run back. They do have a cafe on site with limited options but was good for us for lunch. read more

A nice drive ended up with us here at the Highland Wildlife park. It was a chilly afternoon and all but the toilets in the main building were down, leaving the masses to use port-a-lets. I'm thankful the temperatures were down for that alone. We started walking, seeing Red Pandas, Birds, A few small wolves, snow leopards and polar bears, Deer of some kind and the wild cats who weren't at all cooperative in being viewed, but it was day time and they are cats, so it's understood. I did marvel at their enclosure, which was done in such a way that the cats could have their free reign to go between the 4 or 5 different enclosures without being impeeded by the humans below. Once we'd walked what we wanted to walk, We went back and got in our car for the ride around part on the open safari type land. We saw deer with great horns still flocked in velvet, buffalo and Oryx, I believe, Some wild horse who were very playful. All in all it was a fabulous trip, I would come back again and again. read more

Kingussie Wildlife Park is amazing set in the beautiful highlands of Inverness-shire. The staff are excellent always friendly and willing to answer questions and the animals are fabulous. As you pay your money you are given a leaflet describing the park and the work carried out there plus a cd or tape to play in your car given you information on particular species or areas within the park. (Which has to be handed back once you leave the park) As you drive around you are amazed to see things like Buffalo, wild horses, deer and many more all roaming free in the drive through reserve. This is brilliant to see an almost natural habitat where all these different animals roam together. The drive can take anything from a half hour to an hour depending on how slowly you take the journey but you can go round the reserve as many times as you want. Once you have finished looking at the animals in the reserve you then go and park at the wildlife centre where you are then free to roam around the park to find out what other delights they have. The park is full of different species and contains a lot of animals that are or once were native to Scotland and Great Britain. The park contains, Arctic Monkeys, badgers, otters, elks, beaver, lynx and many more. They also have the largest Wolf Territory in Europe. The Wildlife centre are in partnership with Edinburgh Zoo so they are able to do a lot to help with conservation and helping endangered species, so not only are you able to see all these animals in a perfect natural environment your also doing your own little bit when you pay your entrance fee or make donations. Everyday at certain times of the day you are able to go round with a member of staff and watch certain animals being feed, they also give informative talks. It was not the best day, started off not too bad, but got a bit wet & windy, but by then we had seen the majority. There is also a part that you can drive through as if you are on safari. A great pit stop if going or leaving Inverness. The park offers both a driving and walking experience to enjoy their animals. Like most wildlife parks and refuges, the focus here is on taking care of the animals and breeding those they have to help battle the depleting populations in the wild. This place in particular is striving to save and successfully breed the Scottish Wild Cat (which at close look might appear like its domesticated or feral cat cousin). I love also knowing that my fee goes towards helping these and other animals at this vast park. In addition to some local animals, they also have polar bears, bears, monkeys, wolves, and snow leopards just to name a few. The portion that you can take your car through is the best place to see the polar bears romping on the hill or bathing in their pool. One can also see bison, elk, deer, moose, and wild horses on the driving portion. By foot, one can enjoy the other animals by taking various walkways. Depending on your time frame, you can spend 2 to 4 hours easily. It's worth taking a family or going with an animal lover. read more

The Highland Wildlife Park is a relatively small zoo but it's a very special place that is staffed with people who clearly love what they do. I know this because my partner and I spent the day as carnivore zoo keepers. It was an incredible experience and one that I hope we will some day be able to repeat. We participated in feeding for Walker the young polar bear and the tigers, we also participated in habitat enrichment and got to ask every question we could think of. The staff was all very welcoming, and we got the impression that our own enthusiasm was a real boost for them. The proceeds of this very special adventure goes to help with the preservation of the Scottish Wildcat population. I can't recommend it highly enough. After two nights in Inverness we headed down the A9 towards Perth and by extension, our next destination, Edinburgh. We stopped off at a general store in Kincraig for caffeine, toiletries and ideas for what to do in Cairmgorms, settling on this. We last visited a wildlife park in San Diego back in 2013, unfortunately we arrived near closing hours and therefore we couldn't see as much as we wanted. Given that we reached this spot around 11AM, and were in no particular hurry, this wasn't an issue. We started by taking the counterclockwise tour of the range animals, and enjoyed it. Passengers in other cars were helpful in the sense that they didn't linger too long in one spot causing backups. Upon getting back to the parking lot, we took a walking tour of the rest of the zoo. As is often the case, the most entertaining exhibits involve mankind's closest relative, monkeys. The café and gift center were clean and comfortable. I do wish there was some better signage in the outdoor area - some of the directions were somewhat ambiguous. But all in all we enjoyed ourselves, and would recommend the trip to kids of all ages who enjoy seeing wildlife. read more

This place is truely spectacular, animals are free to walk about at their own pace, you can drive round the huge reserve and get a first hand look at many endangered species. There is a reasonable priced gift shop and cafe, Not to mention the monkeys, wolves, artic fox, owl, wild boars and hundreds of other birds and animals. Get up close and personal. Came here today on the way home from a camping trip past Aviemore. Thought we,d drive up for a look, no prices or information on display!! Lots of mud and construction work going on. Still no prices to be seen, so entered the area to pay, two adults and a child £42.35 to get in. Price list only to be seen after you have paid and even then in small print. Drove around and did see plenty animals at first. The polar bear enclosure did look very small for the size of it plus no significant water for it. Not a wolf to be seen and plenty empty enclosures, plus the snow monkey area was closed. Also walked up to see the most "spectacular view in Scotland" as the sign said. Nice view but only of the mountains we had been surrounded by all weekend. The viewing point past the polar bear was much nicer. Overall nice when you did get to see any animals,guy taking the money was friendly, otherwise not a very welcoming place and we dared not eat in the cafe if that was the price to enter! Back to the viewing point, the best view is actually driving out you see wall to wall mountains and trees. Won't be in a rush to return, save your money for the Deer Centre in Cupar, Fife where there are wolves amongst others and loads of talks plus you get to feed the deer. read more

We visited just before Christmas and the CDs and tapes in the car are no more. The range of animals is wider now however and the tigers are a must see. Red pandas also recently arrived from Edinburgh Zoo - part of the same charitable trust. The ranger feeds are worth the effort - especially if like us you are the only guests to turn up. Watch out for the 'voluntary' donation at the door - its a bit like inertia selling and never really properly explained as optional. read more

A fantastic day out with or without kids as the park is so well laid out that a tour will take a few hours to see all that it contains , highlights for me from our visit in Apr 16 were the Snow leopards and the European Wolves who were not here the last time we visited but there is such a large choice of animals to see now . read more

Unfortunately we visited at a time when ragworts had taken control and the vast majority of the safari animals were elsewhere - this was reflected in a reduction in ticket price. I really enjoyed going round the park as it's not too big and there are a wide selection of both indigenous and more unusual animals (e.g. the red pandas and snow monkeys). It was wonderful to see a capercaillie and I even had a very rare and brief glimpse of a red squirrel. Don't expect to see any beavers though as they are part of a programme to release them back into the wild, and even when they are home they are nocturnal creatures. The views of the surrounding countryside are stunning and it is well worth taking some time to stop and admire them. The cafe was pleasant enough with some outside seating right next to the snow monkey enclosure - a great thing for children as the side is made of perspex and they can see the monkeys almost at their own level.
