The Roman army is encamped just outside Vindobona (or as they say in 2016 - Vienna). Yes it's true ... the soldiers have gathered downstream on the Danube River at Carnuntum. But before you lock yourself in your house, you should know - it's all friendly. You see it's the annual Roman Festival held every year at the important archaeological site of Carnuntum. Carnuntum really comes alive during the Roman Festival. There are old Roman food and craft demonstrations...displays of archery by the elite army troops ....lots of history and storytelling shared. And in the ancient arena down the road in Bad Deutsch Altenburg - you can catch the gladiator fights.
So if you enjoy historical re-enactments, you might enjoy the Roman Festival and being transported back a couple of thousand years to a time when Vienna (Vindobona) and Carnuntum were the outposts of civilization against the barbaric Germanic tribes north of the Danube River.
