The shop is famous for various kinds of mouth-watering desserts, but don't forget they have one of the Portuguese iconic cod items - Pastéis de Bacalhau! It is salt cod fritters. Preparations depend on each shop, lots of cheese, more potato, etc. Here, it is more cod than potato with just small amount of cheese to add flavour. I love it! Love it so much that I went back there next day.

This street had tons of bakeries so it was hard to choose, but we eventually settled on this bakery. We ordered several desserts by taking pictures and showing it to our server so I'm not sure the exact names of them, but they were all variations of natas. They were all delicious!! To drink we ordered and orange juice and cappuccino, which were good, nothing special. The only weird thing that happened was I could have sworn I ordered one of all the 3 desserts, but we were brought 4 and charged for 4. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and just write it off as a language barrier thing. The prices were bad considering it is in the center oof the city!

I had a big cod pastry and hot chocolate. My only regret was not heating the pastry on the stovetop first. You can eat the pastries cold, but this particular one definitely comes out better hot.

The french toast tastes like a churro... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

I visited Com Cuore during my December 2024 trip to Porto after hearing about a 100% gluten-free…read morecafe, and I was certainly excited to check this place out, it is located a short walk away from São Bento railway station, although it is rather well-hidden, I ended up having to go up a set of steps from where Apple Maps told me the location was to find it - I do think having some sort of sign on the main street could help people find this place and help increase footfall for sure. They do operate on a cash-only model, which is a big negative for me, they direct people to use a nearby ATM. I usually refuse to pay cash, but after making an effort to find this place and spending some time, I decided to bite the bullet. It was unfortunate that they were cash only as this meant I spent less than I would have done if they had card payments - Come on, who doesn't take cards in 2024? The interior is small and fairly cramped, and the door did seem to lock, it didn't feel too welcoming with people struggling to get inside while I was eating my food. The menu was impressive and extensive, and most of it was priced reasonably, I ended up going for a sandwich which had ham, German sausage and cheese - The value was certainly really good, however. I also ordered some fries however, I never received them. I was not charged for them, so it is likely my waiter wasn't paying attention when taking my order. I noticed how the menu also mentioned a charge for cutlery - which seemed bizarre, and I'd love some clarification on this - surely they can't charge you for something to eat your food within a sit-down cafe? I found my sandwich to be quite dry. While the meats were decent, though not exceptional in quality, they would just slide off the bread, which was strange considering how dry the sandwich itself was. 3* - The prices are affordable, and the gluten-free options are extensive. However, the overall food quality is just okay. Combined with issues like the atmosphere inside the cafe and the fact that it's cash-only, I wouldn't be in a hurry to return if I visit Porto again. That said, I wouldn't be against giving it another try either.

I was also grateful for the extensive gluten free options on the menu as a celiac traveler, but was disappointed in the service, atmosphere, and general quality of the food upon my visits. Definitely not somewhere to go when you're in a rush/on your way anywhere timed as well! Was also a bit hard to find as it's up a staircase and on the inside of a plaza compared to the address that appears publicly, but has a cute little outdoor patio once found!

Our guide was pleased that we tried something 'different' because she said most people just go with something 'safe'.

Looking from the window outside, I spotted familiar savory pastries. I suspected correctly that they would be served room temperature direct from the display case. (They don't offer warming serves of prepared pastries.) At the counter, the cashier spoke perfect English. I asked her about favorites of savory pastries. We bought pastries of beef, chicken, 2x shrimps (her favorite), and 2x cod fish (traditional Portuguese recipe). For the why-not of it, we also got a full-size pastel de nata and a mini size. These are packed in takeaway package trays and paper wrapped. To avoid the crowds at the outside tables, we walked to a plaza around the corner and enjoyed them while people watching and looking at the octagonal 4 lions fountain called Fonte dos Leões. Perhaps because we are familiar with these types of pastries, we find the flavors subtly enjoyable. They don't have big chunks of beef or chicken or shrimps inside (American style). They contain finely chopped and well-seasoned fillings inside a potato pastry shell or a flaky pastry shell (for the beef). The potato pastry shell is less common in the US (except maybe Porto in Los Angeles area). In any case, we enjoyed our food overall and thought the prices are reasonable. These would be 5 stars if they warmed them up.
