We paid $18 for the red fish fillet thinking that it would be worth it, since red fish is a really good, meaty fish. We got the driest, tasteless, very small piece of fish. It was hard to cut and eat it with our fork. We (2 of us) both walked out of there wishing we had NOT touched our food and just gone somewhere else. In addition to the awfully tasteless and mostly dark portion of red fish (supposedly, it was red fish); it looked like some chocolaty dark piece of fish. The plate included a so called salad that comes in the same plate (just a little iceberg lettuce and a few pieces of tomato) and a big portion of tasteless white rice (rice they do serve a lot of, of course). It was lunch time..the fish should not have been overcooked (looked and tasted like it had been sitting in the oven or some kind of warmer for hours); and they really need to get someone who knows how to cook. This is supposedly a "seafood" restaurant...they should especially know how to fix seafood! My first time to this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised! Went in at 10:50pm just before the kitchen closed at 11:00pm. The waiters went ahead and sat us happily. Mariachi band was playing and the restaurant has a nice ambiance. Well decorated tables and neatly dressed staff. We were served seasoned chips and salsa without asking. Then came a small serving of their seafood soup as well. Extremely delicious and savory. I ordered the small fish ceviche. It was the best I have had in Harlingen so far! Fresh taste and nicely played with two slices of avocado as garnish. My Bae ordered the fried fish and shrimp combo. It came with fries and two hush puppies. Amazingly flaky and hot fish. My wife and I stopped by and we were very impressed! The food was fresh, the service was excellent, and the environment was very relaxed. My wife got the Shrimp Cocktail. The small was still a good amount of shrimp and the flavor was delicious. I ended up getting the Super Combo - Fish, Shrimp, and Oysters. It was some of the best seafood I've had anywhere! The breading on the fish was light and crispy and the shrimp and oysters were surprisingly fresh. I also loved the hush puppy that came on the side. I have been here about 7 times now and I swear each time it feels the food tastes better and better. My first few trips for for their lunch buffet, which is great. it doesn't have a ton of options, but the food is good and I enjoyed the variety in that it isn't just quick fried stuff, but soups too. Since then I have ordered platters or "botanas" as we call them and they are wonderful. I am usually a bit suspect on seafood from restaurants that are not right on the beach, but their seafood tastes fresh as can be. The battering is a bit different / thinner than I am used to, as it has this seafood is prepared in the Mexican style. Nonetheless I really enjoy it. I had a late lunch/dinner here and was absolutely impressed by how excellent the food and service was. They even have a bar with cocktails and beer. How nice! The atmosphere is casual and home-y. The portions are excellent and our food was fresh and flavorful. Can't wait to come back to try some of their other menu items. To top it all off we got freshly cut limes when we asked for some, if that is important to you. It is to me. The buffet wasn't extravagant, but a good deal with options like fried fish and shrimp, flautas, and plenty of sides and dessert options. Tonight is the first visit to this restaurant. Waitress was very sweet and accommodating. (Emma) The restaurant is very clean with subtle little things that in my humble opinion sets them apart from their competitors. Things like, 1st, an original prayer printed on the menu. They are not religious nuts. They just incorporate their faith in their work. I believe this is how it should be. Some businesses might refrain from printing a prayer on their menu fearing they might offend some. It made me feel at home that they were comfortable enough to be politically incorrect. 2nd, the tables at extremely unique and obviously handcrafted. 3rd, A sign posted on the wall simply states "Our plates are prepared fresh. Please allow sufficient time to cook." I'm in the South Texas Valley. This makes total sense to me. And the service was prompt and in order. Now for the food. I was craving seafood with a Latin flare. The ceviche certainly did not disappoint. It had the right amount of lime juice plentiful in the fish avocado and cilantro. I also ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell. I know a lot of the oyster populations are still making their comeback, so I did not anticipate seeing such large oysters before me! We had terrible service. If the food was at least descent we could tolerate the service. The shrimp cocktail was room temperature and the shrimp tacos were soggy. The salsa was from the very pits of hell and they only have that one according to the world's worse waitress who purposely avoided looking our way the entire time. We started off with the shrimp fondue, DELICIOUS! My husband had the fajita quesadilla plate, he's pretty picky about everything and he absolutely loved his meal. I taste his quesadilla and the tortilla is homemade and the fajitas were so tender with loads of flavor. The beans had a little kick to the, but they were so yummy. I had a bacon cheeseburger and it was so tasty! The patty was seasoned perfectly and my steak fries were not over fried. We can't wait to come back and try something else from the menu. My husband and I are visiting Harlingen for 6 weeks, and when we asked around our RV park for the best seafood, this restaurant came up. We visited Feb 2017, and like others have noted, pretty loud, but at 5 o'clock it started to fill up. Hubs loved the salsa, too hot for me. He got the beer battered shrimp, and said they were excellent. I had the grilled Red Snapper and it was utterly wonderful! It is very small and cute inside. They have a bar too. Parking is limited. It was packed when we got there and we got the last table. When we left people were waiting in line to get in. I read the reviews on Yelp so off we went. I had the enchiladas, rice and beans. My husband had the seafood combo which was amazing. I should have trusted my gut and went with the seafood too. My food was good but the seafood was way better. I highly recommend this place if you haven't tried it. With every meal you get a broth soup with veggies in it. It has such good flavor.....flavor of the sea. The service was good as well. We did have to ask for a refill on our drinks but as the restaurant started to fill up we knew they were busy.
