And the bullying is not handled well. NOTHING is done to punish bullies besides a talking and maybe a day suspension for making someone feel unwanted. The targets of these bullies are usually the "weird" kids, which have no reason to be bullied. Of course no one has any reason to be a victim, but I have knowledge, as being one of the "weird" kids, that these people are some of the nicest there are. They are usually just sitting or walking to class when a popular girl/boy walks up and comments on their appearance or backpack. There's also an absurd amount of discrimination for a "non-discrimination" school. While the teachers seem to mind their business, the students who discriminate other students for being different aren't handled.

I reached out weeks in advance expressing concerns to the SPED department that my child was showing symptoms of a "flare-up" related to their diagnosed disability. Unfortunately, my concerns were not taken seriously until it was too late. Had the reports and warnings been addressed appropriately, my child may have been able to avoid experiencing a serious health crisis. In addition, the Dean's approach toward students with behavioral struggles has been extremely concerning. Instead of offering support and understanding; students are often labeled as "problem kids" or "bad kids." Inappropriate comments have been made directly to students regarding their diagnoses, including statements suggesting disbelief in their disabilities. These comments are harmful, unprofessional, and damaging to vulnerable students who need support, compassion, and appropriate intervention. Families with struggling children need guidance, resources, and collaboration; not judgment, dismissal, or intimidation. The lack of proper support within this department has had a significant negative impact on both students and families.
