Not to mention how wonderful our guide Gretchen was, and how beautiful the river was. I'm 66 years old and this was my first white water raft. I wouldn't call it scary but it was very thrilling and exciting.

My sister, nephew and I wanted to do Middle Fork this year and I remember it being an adrenaline rush and challenging but so fun- We picked a Tuesday so it was not crowded, but when it ended up being just the three of us in the raft with Juli, I was a little nervous, remembering how intimidating tunnel chute was- and I didn't have the security of a full raft of people to weigh down the raft and help paddle to build up speed. This just goes to show you how important a seasoned veteran rafting guide is Juli was amazing. He gave clear instructions, he was very calm, and he managed the raft like a pro. No no flipping over and no one fell out. So exciting! Now I want to go to Costa Rica and look up Whitewater excitement there and request Juli. Hope to do this at least one more time this year. If I lived closer, I would go more often. Ps- I read some people complaining that you have to pitch in to carry the raft from the water up to the trucks and from the trucks down to the water, I've only been with one company that did not ask you to do that. All the rest have always had the rafters help out in pitch-in.

Had an amazing time with H2O Adventures on a full day trip on the South fork of the America River!…read more I highly recommend them! They were so friendly and helpful. Even when I screwed up our booking and accidentally forgot one person they quickly got us taken care of. Waylon was the best guide! He was great with both my kids, letting them know when they could ride the bull and when they could jump in to get wet. He knew a lot about the area and engaged in conversation with all of us. I highly recommend the full day trip as it lets you see the entire upper and lower parts. Lunch was amazing. They asked us what we wanted and had an amazing spread (burgers, toppings, chips, watermelon, lemonade, pasta salad & cookies). I certainly wasn't expecting it to be that good. But after a half day it was soooo yummy!!! Can't say enough nice things! Even when my oldest fell out at Hospital, everyone knew exactly what to do (she was holding onto the boat). They travel together which is great. There are lots of options, but you cannot go wrong with H2O Adventures! We are already planning our next trip- on the Middle Fork and we will most definitely raft with H2O!!

Our guides were excellent, they made sure we were safe, well taken care of, and customized the ride to our group. You can tell they really love what they do. I was especially impressed with lunch. Super fresh delicious fruit and ingredients for a make-your-own wraps station. H2O was a great choice and we loved being able to support a great small, family owned business!!!

The…read morerental and launch process was straightforward, which I appreciated because this was only my second time kayaking. We did not make reservations ahead of time; we arrived right when the center opened. We explored about two miles at a leisurely pace in just over an hour. We went north across the lake to the pond area and felt like adventurers as we wove in and out of the watery passageways. We saw many swans and even a beaver. It was beginner-friendly, but it still felt novel and cool. We brought our own life vests, but they have plenty available for anyone who does not bring one. All the college-age students working there were very friendly, and they seemed genuinely happy to be there. The parking lot became busy later in the morning, so we were glad we had arrived early.

Heaven for watersport lovers!!…read more This is the nicest and biggest aquatic rental facility in the Sacramento area. Parking: $10 if you don't rent their equipment, with plenty of spaces in the complex. Otherwise, you can park for "free" at the State Park area if you have the Golden Poppy Annual Pass ($125). The park also has plenty of picnic tables and a small beach area for sunbathing. Restrooms: Women's (5 stalls), Men's (5 stalls), plus 2 unisex restrooms. There are plenty of rental options, including single/tandem kayaks, SUP boards, and canoes. If you are in a group, all renters must sign in at the same time because the rental period starts once you sign in. They also have CREW and CANOE clubs! All rentals must be returned by 8 PM or you may be fined. No cycling or weight training on the premises, but there is a basketball court on the side. All life jackets, equipment, and docks were clean and in good condition. The payment line moves quickly. If possible, print the waiver at home to save time. You also need to create an account on their website before they can place your order; otherwise, you'll need to create one on the spot when purchasing tickets. After purchasing, you leave your driver's license and car key with them. There is a 15-minute courtesy buffer deducted from your total rental time for walking to the dock, restroom breaks, setup, etc. Service: friendly and efficient. If you change your mind: for example, from a SUP board to a kayak: they simply call the front desk and let you switch at the dock. Lake Natoma is perfect for kayaking or paddleboarding because it starts wide and gradually narrows. The current is almost nonexistent until around 4 PM. It's about 2 miles to the small island near Willow Creek Recreation Area, which makes a perfect scenic picnic spot.

The group we rafted with was cohesive and kind, and the guides were patient, but challenging. We had the opportunity to be part of a rowing school and to understand the "science" of rafting. Examples of instruction were navigating into an eddy, ferrying across a current to the other side of the river, tying off a boat, setting up angles, and reading currents were just a few skills that were taught. Sierra Mac and our group was welcoming, eager to teach, and patient all the while giving appropriate feedback. The instruction truly was "hands on" as we got the opportunity to take a turn at rowing to learn the basic mechanics of boat rowing. While we expected to be in tents, we actually slept without them, and this ended up being a cool experience for us and pushed my teenagers to realize it can be done! Highly recommend Tom and the whole crew. Every guide was a class act, and we particularly appreciated how many combined years of experience they all brought. Next time, I'll bring a GoPro camera to capture the thrill a little better on the rapids. We hope to be able to do this again! Thank you Tom and Sierra Mac!
