It's also an active church with regular services, so make sure to check their website before you try to visit. I attempted to visit multiple times and ran into mass, a funeral, a wedding, and a baptism before I finally got in. The outside of the cathedral alone is absolutely gorgeous. The inside has the most beautiful stained glass windows and it all feels very peaceful and calming. I'm not a religious person but I can definitely see how people feel closer to God here. You can take all the pictures you want inside and there is no fee to enter. As far as I know there aren't any guided tours but I could be wrong about that.

The church was amazing and beautiful inside and out. Finding the angle with the colorful houses took a minute. There is a park across from the colorful houses that is decent view but the best was above that street on private property. There is a sign requesting donations for use of the spot. They planted a tree that seems like it will soon ruin the view. At the church the wind was sever.

I am so glad I decided to visit as the service was very uplifting. Everyone was welcoming, and Reverend Richie was especially kind. Afterward, I enjoyed coffee and a pleasant chat. Coming from Jacksonville, Florida, it was truly wonderful to be able to fellowship in such a lovely setting.

Trinity, Cork Presbyterian Church…read more Little William Street off York Street is the current (and long term) situation of the Trinity, the Cork Presbyterian Church. It is on an eye catching site at the junction of McCurtain Street and Brian Boru Street. The congregation was founded, mainly by Scottish settlers, in the 1830s and eventually a building was erected in Queen Street (now Father Matthew Street). The present Gothic-style building at Summerhill North dates from 1861 and has three distinctive stained glass windows to represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (the Trinity). About 30 families are now linked to the church and there has been a recent boost thanks to immigrants from places as diverse as South Korea, Hungary, Brazil, Cameroun, Nigeria and the USA.

The oratory was well over a thousand years old and its construction showed how impressive they built this to withstand the elements. It was completely dry inside even as the rain poured down that afternoon. The oratory was just one of three dry stone constructed churches still standing in Ireland with this stone corbelled roof. Outside to the left rear of the oratory was a marker that shows what is believed to be the name of the person who designed or constructed the oratory.

Gallarus Oratory is one of a handful of old archaeological gems that overlooks the harbor at Ard na…read moreCaithne on the Dingle Peninsula. It is a short hike from the roadside (R559). Apparently there is no true consensus on when it was built and what exactly the function was, but the information given was that it is an Irish church built between the 6th and 9th century. It is made from red sandstone that perfectly overlaps, and the side walls slope like an overturned boat. There is a single door and, across from that, a single window to let light in. I found the architecture to be so impressive, considering the fact that those who built it undoubtedly had rudimentary tools. Adjacent to the oratory is a marked grave, but it isn't clear to whom it belongs. Gallarus Oratory was one of several old/ancient archeological gems we visited while on holiday. It's so interesting that these places still exist and are nicely preserved so that one can appreciate a large scope of Irish history.

The Crucifix Shrine is a life size scene of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is made of white…read morestone and it jumps out in contrast against the dark cliffs. The shrine is popular landmark along Slea Head Drive. Some people call it the Slea Head Crucifix. The exact area is named the "Cornerstone of the Peninsula" because it marks the boundary between two Parishes of the Dingle Peninsula. It was funded by an Irish-American and erected before the1960"s. It stands as a memorial to the fishermen who have lost their lives at sea. I visited the Shrine while driving the 33 mile Dingle loop. The road is very narrow but there is a turn out in front of the statue that will allow you to comfortably access the shrine and take photos. It is pretty popular so you may have to wait your turn to visit.

Kilmalkedar Church (or Cill Maolcheadair) is a historical site on the Dingle Peninsula that…read moreincludes a 12th-century Romanesque church ruin and other ancient monuments like an Ogham stone, sundial, and alphabet stone. It was founded by St. Maolcethair in the 7th century and is also strongly associated with St. Brendan the Navigator. The site is situated on the Cosán na Naomh pilgrimage path. Our tour bus stopped here soon after visiting the Blasket Island Visitor's Center on our way back to Dingle. As I'm on a local Nevada Cemetery Board, Graveyards intrigue me in terms of headstone design, what's stated on them, and the honoring of those we died during Ireland's independence battles with the bridges. Then there were all the "random" stones with mass graves belong marking those who died during the Great Hunger. The place was oddly peaceful and we wandered around and one of the few Irish monuments that didn't have a gift shop.

There was one prayer in Gaelic, the rest in English. The cathedral is phenomenal. Since it is on the top of a hill it is a good walk uphill but totally worth it!
