The shop is cozy and perfectly organized so it's easy to find what you want. It's always pleasant here. One low light in this visit was the slow check out process. I get that a small business will have one staff member at a time, but the already slow process was prolonged when more people joined the folks checking out to add their intended purchases. This took about 10 more minutes for the back and forth decisions. I didn't enjoy that. Products: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars Managing check out: 2 stars I'll always return when I'm in Ganges, but I'll be more cautious if the store is busy-ish.

AWESOME little shop…read more The store is positioned at the top of a hill that overlooks a big green sprawling field with live stock on it, and Canadian geese landing from time to time. The staff are very friendly, with stories to orientate visitors to the island and detailed explanations for the various soaps. Massive selection of soaps, we chose a lavender infused soap made with local bees wax. When we left, the lady provided us with samples of many other soaps.

We really wanted to visit a lavender farm while on Salt Spring Island and Lavender and Black was…read morethe only option open on Monday. We found them through a Salt Spring Island guidebook and were drawn because they advertised lavender ice cream. We arrived at the farm nearly at closing time but the owners were still super nice and accommodating and welcomed us in. We got our ice cream and they explained some of the different types of lavender they have in the farm and let us freely roam around to take it all in. The ice cream was by far the best lavender ice cream I've ever had. The fragrance was super strong but not overwhelming and every bite tasted like lavender :) We were told that not every batch of their lavender ice cream comes out this great and we got very lucky. The farm is quite small but there are definitely still enough lavender to appreciate. They have a set of cute lawn chairs at the end of the walkway that were perfect for photos too! After our short walk, we checked out their shop. They have a lot of lavender products (as you would expect) and they're constantly working on experimenting with lavender to make more products too. By this point, it was definitely after closing time already but they never rushed us at all. In fact, they were super helpful in explaining how to use lavender products and giving us tips on how we can grow our own. This was overall such a great experience and I'm so happy that I got to stop by. I'm still thinking about that ice cream.

Tried to find staff to help me out-couldn't find anyone. Decide to buy items regardless (can always take them into the Mayfair location). Cashier was unfriendly and cold. Did not get a bag for my purchases....she simply put them on the counter with my receipt and pushed them towards me. The only reason for two stars is because the store was clean and items were in stock. Will be sticking with Sephora Mayfair for sure!
