I could have bought the whole tub you just got that one scoop from!!! So overall, I won't be returning! One half of the small building (by the river as the name suggests, but not overlooking it) is their kitchen, the rest light and airy with about six or seven round tables perfect for families and groups. It does get to be a bit of a squeeze in there at times though. On their walls are their chalked up specials and paintings for sale borrowed from the People's Gallery across the road. This cafe is perfect for traditional English breakfast and lunches like paninis, baked potatoes, soups with specials like lasagne and chilli con carne all under £5. They also provide a takeaway service which is pretty popular at lunchtimes.

While there I had a couple of coffees, nice tasting and good value and also a delicious chicken club with a side of chips. I stopped in for lunch with a few friends and was really impressed by the Mediterranean heavy menu which included several interesting salads, paninis, sandwiches, daily changing quiches and several types of platters. In fact everyone's lunches looked very impressive, particularly my friend's platter which I was massively jealous of when it arrived, being full of several of my favourite things including prosciutto, olives, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella and what looked to be an entire ciabatta loaf - I definitely know what I'm ordering next time! Unbeknown to me prior to my visit is that in addition to the main cafe area there is a good sized courtyard at the rear which is perfect for a warm summer's day as it's a real sun trap. Another amazing thing about this place is most non-students won't venture here because it's nicely tucked away, hidden behind the hullabaloo of wilmslow road. Others will probably be put off by its awkward location at the end of a road full of terraced student houses. But if you can look past the studenty atmosphere you'll realise that actually a lot of the punters are either older students or local young professionals. I just love the decor and layout of the whole place. From the small intimate dining/cafe/bar area downstairs, to the live music bar and terrace upstairs. It's a real hidden gem of fallowfield. I've been coming to live music nights here for a while and discovered Glass Tides (my favourite Manchester band) here. So the place holds a special place in my heart. Love it and so will you. Delicious fried cinnamon dough, rolled in sugar with hot chocolate sauce, wow! As well as serving delicious food, there is also a great selection of olives, cheeses, chutneys, teas and cakes to buy. There was a 20 minute wait for us to get our drinks, with a couple of the staff not catching on at us looking round slightly forlorn and tea-less. When they did arrive though, they were those colourful 'Tea for One' cup and teapot sets which held about 2-3 cups-worth of brew, so they were definitely value for money from a café. Two of us ordered Eggs Benedict and one a Full English. I've had much better eggs I must say - they were overcooked and lacked the runniness you look forward to getting when you cut into them. All in all though the food was fine (the bacon in particular was good), though it wasn't amazing. This probably isn't somewhere to dine if you only want a quick bite to eat on busy days, but you can get a half decent brunch and drink for just less than a tenner.

Along with my food I had a Flat White (shock I know) and then because I was feeling rather fat from stuffing my face all week, I had a Broccoli, Pear and Kiwi juice drink and to my surprise I loved it! A favourite of my wife and her baby group, juniper is a very cool deli and coffeeshop with room for about 10 people to sit outside and about 30 indoors. The staff were friendly and the place was cool and well decorated throughout with a family friendly environment. So basically I got to the promised land and I nailed an amazing ham and mozzarella panini and a macchiato - wow this was good, like heaven. I once received an emergency blood transfusion and this was the next best thing as it really brought me round back to who I was.
