I took the NYS Boating Course with Captain Richard Werner today 6/22/24. My reason for taking the course is that I will be required to have a boating certificate next year. I have been boating for 60 years and did not really expect to hear a lot of new information and I didn't. But, I thought the material was very well presented and Captain Rich did an exceptional job at keeping everyone's attention for the whole 9-5 day. I would highly recommend him as an instructor. I will feel much more secure on the waters now knowing that my fellow boaters, who may be less experienced than me, will have sufficient knowledge to operate a motor vessel safely. read more

Captain Rich did a wonderful and comprehensive job at the required NYS Boating Course. It was an all day affair that was broken up with small breaks and a 30 minutes lunch period. Capt. Rich has amazing stamina and was able to provide real life examples of situations that boaters may encounter. He made sure at the end of each section that all questions were answered and important parts were well understood. He actually took the time to make sure that younger attendants in our class (ages 10-17) kept up and fully understood the concepts of safe boating. Not only is this a great course, but Capt'n Rich is a very good, informative, engaging teacher. He doesn't read from the book, he makes the class interesting with real life experiences and never hesitates to ask if there are any questions. I took the class once and was so impressed with it that I brought my two young grandsons to take it as well (as they are boaters), not expecting Capt'n Rich to be the instructer, but very pleased that he was there. Wonderful class instructed virtually by Captain Rich Werner. Captain Rich was articulate, very knowledgable, and provided smooth transitions with all subject matter. He included colorful stories and fun sayings to support the content such as "Red Green In-between". He provided clear instructions and answered all the group's questions The presentation was well laid out and very engaging. My family all took the test on the second night on separate devices and passed with 90% or higher. I highly recommend taking these classes. read more

Just took and successfully completed the all-day boating certification course with Captain Richard Werner. We were in good hands and enjoyed Captain's Rich's humorous anecdotes. With very little background in boating safety and no prior preparation, I was able to get a 98% score simply on the basis of the excellent instruction. Captain Kevin was the instructor for my course. He was excellent. I had a lot of problems with my computer and he was very supportive of it and made sure that I would not worry about after taking the test and the course he would make an accommodations for me. I recently took and passed the NYS boaters certificate approval. Captain Rich Werner took the time making sure everyone in the class passsed this test. He did this by making sure that everyone in his class fully understood the laws, safety and fun ways to enjoy the waterways keeping everyone on board and around their boat safe. The class was great, my son took it recently and passed and is very proud and excited to boat more. The instructor was very friendly and thorough. My only recommendation would be that since he said he doesn't have to tell people their scores, to at least not volunteer them to younger kids in case it wasn't super high. My daughter and I took the safe boating class with Captain Rich and had a great experience. I was nervous that it would be a long, boring day but Rich made all the information interesting, relevant and engaging. I just took the 8 hour safe boating course with my wife and friend. Captain Werner made the course interactive, interesting and knowledgable. The course gives you a lot of insight on the laws and safety of boating for children 10 years old up to adults. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone especially if given by Captain Werner. read more

While I have been boating over 50 years and feel comfortable with my skills, I felt compelled to comply with the state law and take the safe boating course. This was a great boating course. Even though it couldn't be taught traditionally in a classroom it was still fun over Zoom. Our instructor Richard was fantastic and so knowledgeable! He made sure we understood what we learned to prepare us for the test and even added some jokes. I would recommend his course. read more
