I was a long term member of SFCU, along with my husband and children. I lost my job, defaulted on my loan and they locked me out of my account. They then drained the money from my childrens accounts to pay for my loan. Now my husband was calling the member service center for help with his account but the woman asked him a question he couldn't answer. I told him the answer and she terminated the call specifically because she heard me talking. We have abandoned our accounts and left sfcu. They have been a nightmare to work with and I advise you to not do business with this bank. If I could leave zero stars I would. I was given a loan through this bank to buy a new truck from McLaughlin Ford. I do not recommend this bank to anyone. They make it impossible to make your truck payment. Every month it's a different rule. This day in time I cannot make my payment online without depositing money into a savings account, which they opened for me to even get the loan, I don't bank with them so my savings is somewhere else. Also I cannot make the payment by phone. It takes an act of Congress to pay my payment. And Brittney is the most unsympathetic person I have ever spoken with. My first payment I went into the branch and you had to have a member ID number, all I had was my account number so I couldn't pay it. I walked in to this location and asked the front lady (larger African American) if Safe was affiliated with another credit union. Her attitude was so rude and she rolled her eyes at me like my question was inconveniencing her. Her answer was, "I don't know. You can look it up online or stand on the teller line to find out." The teller line was ten people long and my internet did not work here and I even explained this to her and she still said there was nothing she could do. Another employee was walking out of the back so I asked her the same question and she immediately took me to her cubical and looked this information up and was very helpful. I am absolutely livid with Safe and Visa!!! I travel all over the country (truck driver) and use my debit card with no issues. I went to Vegas on Saturday, used my debit card like normal, and it got blocked after a few transactions. We were on the other side of Vegas from where we were staying, I'm disabled (MS) and we had NO access to any money whatsoever!!! I called Visa and they blamed Safe. They connected me with safe who was closed Saturday night. We're finally made it back to our truck around 5am Sunday morning after calling every number we could think of. I just got off the phone with Safe and, of course, they blamed Visa. We didn't get to do anything that we wanted to do thanks to this crap. I do shared banking with these guys and have found them to be very customer oriented, very helpful; however, there is one young guy who works in the main branch on Wesmark as a teller who has a really bad attitude. I loathe getting waited on by him as I know I am in for a rude transaction. He is the exception though, everyone else I've dealt with has been top notch. read more

I would NOT recommend this bank! We bought a vehicle for our teenager and chose to put it in my husband's name only since I carried the loan for our other 2 vehicles. My husband works out of town so I am the one that makes the payments. The first time I went to make a payment, I had the payment coupon and a check with both my and my husband's name on it. The teller refused to take the payment because the account is not in my name. After telling her I could pay on ANY account, I just couldn't withdraw, she finally took my payment but wouldn't give me a receipt because they contained the account number. I guess she forgot the account number is on the payment coupon. This is the headache I receive EVERY time I make the payment. Today when my husband was with me, they were just as rude and disrespectful to him and the account is in his name. We were ignored waiting for customer service and laughed at when I suggested that I would refinance our vehicle with another bank. Do NOT use SAFE federal credit union!!!!! read more

I opened an account because I lived out of town (about 40 miles from the branch) but worked in Sumter full time and needed a local bank to cash payroll checks. I was a member for 8 months. Keep in mind that I have never been over drone at all. I walked in to cash and make a check for $756 and deposit $500 of it. I was told since the account went 2 months without activity that they could not cash it but that I could make the deposit the whole check but there would be a hold on the funds for a few days. (WTH?) So I politely asked to withdraw all of the funds that was currently in my checking and savings and to close the account. It took 30 mins just to see a rep that could do that. I will never do business with this bank again. But I guess they have enough members that would tolerate it that they didnt need mine. read more
