I cannot say enough good things about the well rounded education my kids are receiving at Da Vinci. Waldorf has instilled such creativity and a deep love of learning in both of my children. They are not just learning facts and numbers. They are learning how to learn and how to think and do and create as well. My favorite example is when my older child started reading. He recently found a series of books he is just devouring. But, on top of his voracious reading, he is also applying the hands on skills he is learning at Waldorf by drawing his own images for the series and he is even now writing and binding his own stories. I am the owner of a technology company. When I see my son and daughter learn a skill, then make the connection to roll up their sleeves and create something on their own, I get a big smile on my face and it shows me that they know how to apply the things they are learning. I know my kids (like all kids) have an innate passion and curiosity for learning and the Da Vinci Waldorf School is the perfect place to help it grow.

But the people running the school (in many cases, is your kid's teacher) left a lot to be desired. It was like no one is in charge. Communication was unclear, rules were unclear and always changing. We left because we did not have confidence in the school to be the primary education source for our kids as it seemed that no one was qualified.

At that time, I paid $1,580 per week + $645 for an evaluation or $13,285 all together. I am not the type of person who could afford this at all but I wanted to get my boy the best early intervention to get him on track. My son struggled a lot in Kindergarten with reading and writing. When attempting to read, he would look at everyday words as if for the very first time--he just could NOT get the sight words and to this day struggles with memorization. The director at LMB noted that he could see what a bright boy I had and he believed the program could help bridge the discrepancy between his bright mind and his reading/writing abilities despite the fact that they could not determine the exact cause for my son's difficulties. The Deerfield center had a very positive ambiance and my son happily spent much of his summer there. By their evaluation tools he made great improvement. Unfortunately, this progress did not carryover into his schoolwork when fall came. Don't get me wrong, I believe to this day that I was dealing with good people at LMB. The LMB director offered at one of our last meetings to come to my son's IEP meeting (Highland Park school district) and talk to the school team on how to carryover the work that my son did over the summer. For my part, I should have been a better advocate but I was overwhelmed by the situation--watching my bright and confident boy become increasingly frustrated by school after the intensive intervention and then also struggling to pay back my loan for LMB tuition. It took me sooo long to pay it off. My advice to LMB in Deerfield is make follow-up calls to clients. Be invested in your clients. For the price tag you're charging, you ought to.
