I've searched nearly everywhere to find some good lunch deals. Then I once heard from social media that Safeway has inexpensive deli menu. I stopped here for some lunch before movie. Deli section was already busy serving other customers when I went in. Chicken wings were big! They also had chicken thighs and legs which are bigger and better looking than KFC. KFC Tuesday deals are good, but their meats are small and not crispy. $6.99 for 5 pc wings in this economy felt SO unreal. I even tried Chinese food takeout from Robson Safeway back then. Deli section at New West is pretty good as well. Everyone has to try deli at this Safeway for once or twice. It's way better than KFC! Wings were very tasty and batter was good too. I go to this location because it's in a convenient area that's right off the skytrain. However, I find that quite often it is difficult to find the items that they have listed in their flyer. I circled inside the store multiple times trying to locate the items I was shopping for. Also, I was contemplating buying their oysters, but noticed that they stored them in their display case directly with raw shrimp, and bacon wrapped scallop. It made me worry about cross contamination, as these items should at least have some type of divider between them, so I decided against it. read more

Grocery shopping in another country is always interesting. Many things are the same and many things are different. As grocery stores go, this Safeway is similar to others I have been to in the US. Produce, frozen, deli, bakery. I picked up a can of baked beans. Yes, these are different. I've not seen "British-style" beans in Charlotte so this would be an interesting and portable thing I can bring home from British Columbia. (They're bigger beans than the Bush's beans I'm used to. This has been one of the Safeway I frequent always whenever I pass by. They never disappoint with all the fresh fruits in stock no matter what hours. Staff are quick to help if there is issue at the self-service kiosks. The store is clean and wide, plenty of space to walk about even at its peak hours. I was in the store yesterday. Kenny(member of LGVTQ) claimed that I was stupid and should not be asking for help. She claimed she has Autism and will not apologize for her /his rude behavior. I am an Autism caregiver and Kenny did not seem to have Autism. Whatever his/her case maybe, she should be removed from the self-check out. She operates the self check out and this had occurred twice. One when I went back to the store to get milk after I checked out, "Kenny" was livid!. Great stock - I have always found everything I needed. Great location - right inside the New Westminster SkyTrain stop - no matter where you are going, a quick stop and you are done. Fast and quick - I have never found this place too crowded. Self-service lanes are always open and even the staff assisted ones move fairly quickly. I never felt annoyed due to long wait times. Staff is kind and helpful. Great deli items - very big spread and amazing variety with ready to go food items. Long open hours - Stays open till 12 am I believe which is amazing. This place is my go-to and I prefer it over the Save-on-Foods located equally close to my place as this place is far more resourceful in terms of variety in goods they carry. read more

Disgusting manager here today on May 12, 5:30pm! They refused to return a bag of tortilla chips I had bought 15 minutes prior! Unopened! I realized I was allergic to them. I used Self Serve Checkout. I still had all the items with me. Lol! The manager even saw me at the Checkout. The bottom of the receipt was torn off! By the machine!! They wouldn't give me my money back! i like this Safeway. You cannot beat the location and convenience. If you take transit, it is on the concourse level of the skytrain station. It is not a very big store but it is sufficient for grocery runs. The produce is fresh though not that cheap. Watch out for their $1 deals. They also did samples during the Christmas season and I learnt great tips on making dips from the staff. The Chinese take out section is ok but I find it too expensive as it goes by weight. If you order broccoli and rice/noodles which are naturally heavier, then you will be paying a lot more. I wish they will do combos option too like in T&T. The hot soup is very good. They do run out fast. I also like the demi-baguette from the bakery. It also sold out quickly. I like the ready-made meal or pre-seasoned meat section where you can just stick them into the oven to cook. The washroom is horrible, avoid if you can. read more

I wish the Safeway wasn't the most convenient grocery store for me to use. Because they are the worst grocery store I've ever shopped at. They don't honour their specials, even when they're clearly in the flyer. The staff is clueless. Out of 10 groceries, there's a high probability that one of them will be overcharged, because they don't update the computer. Their milk fridge is absolutely disgusting. It smells of rotten milk every time I open the door. Their freezers and refrigerators are never cleaned. I've mentioned it probably easily two dozen times and it's never been addressed or cleaned. And the last time I talk to them he said they'd have to take everything downstairs to pressure wash it. And I asked, so why don't you do that. Then they repeated that they have to take everything downstairs to pressure wash it. I gave up. I was going to share a picture of how disgusting the rust corrosion and moulding milk looked in the fridge, but I didn't want to gross you out. The public washroom is a cesspool. I live a block away but will be cheerlfully going to take the skytrain or driving to another store. The prices are 30% that of walmart for brand name products. beef and chicken - name brand - not compliments vs great value - are double or triple. I have no problem paying the price if at least the employees were welcoming, pleasant, and had a degree of social skills. While there are some very very nice staff, the ogres (managers, stock staff, customer service) tip the scale for me not returning - pro tip: if you are not happy with your job, do not be the face of the organization - ask to work in the back. read more

I don't know about the parking issue or signage from 6th but living at the Quay I was able to walk there in less than 5 minutes which makes this a fantastic option. With gas prices the way they are, any reasonably priced grocery option within walking distance the "bomb". I am sure that once all the construction is done. as it's not, then the parking will probably be better but that is just me surmising. Anyway, we went today as I had a few items to pick up for my cake decorating class I am taking. When we walked in there was security inside and at both doors, which is so nice. I used to work at the Uptown store many moons ago and because of rampant theft we were never able to use the second set of doors but I digress. I like this Safeway. It's your typical Safeway but so much nicer than some of the old dingy ones that one runs into now and again. Most of those have been fazed out but there are a few still out there. When you walk in the doors from the overpass side there is the Starbucks, which if you are going to the train in the morning from the Quay, one has the option of hitting it up there for their morning caffeine fix. Being that it just opened it was busy but honestly any Safeway is busy on the weekend. What impressed me the most, well one of the things that impressed me, was that they are open at 6am so my husband can pick up a fresh, hot lunch on his way to work. They also carry fresh sushi and Asian food in the hot food area where you will also find the battered chicken. The other thing that impressed me was their equal opportunity hiring practices. My cashier was an older man who is also hearing impaired. He was uber nice and not in the fake way. I will definitely be back as it's terribly convenient and less expensive than the IGA. read more

I Love this Safeway location. It is part of a skytrain station. Does not get more convenient than that. Though this grocery can get very busy during the evening rush after work and school. The deli dept. at this location has some good meal deals like the chicken leg dinner or filet fish or chicken strips combo for 5 bucks. Or buy a deli sandwich (pre-made or fresh) , get a small soup for 2 bucks. The baked goods are better quality than Superstore's bakery. Though that should not surprise anybody. The strudels and garlic bread at Safeway is very good. Service is OK , but expecting great service at any supermarket in metro Vancouver is asking for too much. I really liked this store because of it accessibility to the sky train but not anymore. I recently went there to buy meat and a guy who ( young boy wearing glasses)works at the meat section was really rude and not respectful. He was angry and not welcomed and when i thanked him for two times he didn't even answer me. This place is new and it shows. While the store itself is nice and big and clean, the staff... well everyone seems pretty clueless. I stopped in here on evening on the way home to grab one thing and once I got to the only checkout that appeared to be open I stood there for about 5 minutes while several cashiers debated over who was running that cash register. Once they figured it out, I paid for my one bottle of pop with a $20 bill and received $18 in change back because apparently none of the registers contained any bills? Irritating. read more

Pharmacy 4.5 STARS Safeway as a grocery store 3 STARS This is THE pharmacy I go to. I've been to few other pharmacy but they always wanted to chat about nothing. I don't want to talk about how my day has been going so far, I just want my medications refilled! I always felt dreadful picking up my monthly medications...till I came here! Staff here is friendly, polite, and patient. They're quick to their point and I love that. They will respond if customers initiates chit chat but they usually don't start, so in my opinion, they're awesome. I am not planning to initiate so I never have to worry about that interaction, what a relief! I rated pharmacy 4.5 STARS and 0.5 is for that they have been late to fill my prescriptions even they know when I am coming back. Sometimes I only have half a day of medications left but they weren't still ready. They had me waiting for up to an hour once and rest are up to 30 minutes. Sometimes I am in a hurry, so I'd be happier if they could do it on time. But I am not angry or anything like that. I mean, they have hundreds of people to serve and they are busy. People makes mistakes and that's totally fine. They have never made mistakes about medications like giving me wrong ones anyways. Safeway, as a grocery store, I say it's just okay. They have never been superb or terrible, just okay. They got one of the cheapest ground beef in the town as far as I know, so that's the main reason I come here. Service at the customer service desk isn't the best. They know what "scanning code of practice" is but they don't want to follow that golden rule. They did it for me once when they just opened up and one more time after 2 weeks they opened. It was both the same thing, I was charged for wrong amount and it was less than $10. It's not like I'm trying to cause problems, I was just pointing out that I was charged too much. After while, they stopped doing it and pretended to not know what that is even though it says so on their desk. I went to their desk 3 times more because they charged me more than they should have. They were the all same case just like when they opened up. Once to a manager and twice to staff. They all told me that I don't understand what I am talking about and that's not how it works. But that's what you guys did and you already forgot about it? Scanning code of practice is still the same too! It's not like rules been changed... They just gave me the difference while they should have returned full amount. I mean, it was just a dollar or two difference, I am not angry or anything about that part. I'm not sure how loss prevention agents (read: assclowns) are compensated, but if it's commission based on how many people you falsely accuse, I guess I can see why they're so eager. I bought a greeting card and paid for it using the self-checkout. Instead of using the pin pad, I decided to tap my card because that takes all of three seconds. I took my receipt and left. As I make my way to train platform, I'm suddenly tugged backwards by my backpack. Honestly, the only reason I didn't react as any sane person would when they think they're being mugged--that is, violently--is because I live at New Westminster Station and thought a friend had played a joke on me. Now I'm being told that I didn't pay for my card, that a clerk saw me walk out without paying. After the perfunctory "Yes, I did" and "No, you didn't", I show Robo Rent-a-cop my receipt. He then merrily saunters off and I'm left wondering what in the bleeding hell that was all about. I understand grocery stores will employ plainclothes loss prevention drones, and I will produce a receipt if I am asked to do so--that's the not the problem. To start with, Assclown didn't identify himself, his only formal introduction was an accusation, not to mention immediately getting physical. When a scruffy weirdo in a hoodie confronts me, my intent is to hurt him before he hurts me. A simple 'excuse me' to get my attention would have sufficed. If I were a smarter, more logical person, I would've asked for his name and given Safeway customer service a bollocking right then and there. Innocent until proven guilty isn't just a fancy legal term you hear a lot in movies, it's also a good way to go about behaving with people you think have just stolen something. For a big brand store it is quite friendly and staff are very helpful. The staff do not set the prices so don't freak out on them. I really enjoy the self checkout; there is always a staff member there to assist - I do not know why people complain about that for I am a regular shopper (3 - 5 times per week) and there is always someone to assist. Usually I am on foot then I hop on skytrain, walk or take shuttle bus below on 8th street to return home again. When I drive I park in the park lot. I expect high prices - that is the way of the big chain grocery stores. Has a lot of conveniences but people leave the only restroom a cesspool. I don't understand that at all. Beef and chicken is safe to eat. They sell Jamie Oliver's sausages. Husband likes that for sure. Produce fresh. There is a pharmacy, potted plants and fresh flowers for sale. Bakery, deli foods and cafeteria style hot food service with a Starbucks to boot with tables, chairs and outdoor area!! It is not a restaurant so don't expect the food to taste 5star. People need to get a grip on reality. Don't like it? Don't eat it!! Really helpful courteous people work there and I like that a lot. read more

Normally, I would give much more positive feedback, the cashiers are generally polite given what must be a rather difficult clientele on occasion. However, tonight I experienced the worst kind of behavior from a manager. Upon entering the store I noticed that there were no shopping carts - since I come into the shop morning through evening I knew this was not a new problem. I decided to register a formal complaint at the customer service desk. I thought I would be asked to fill in a form; but nothing ever changes if your don't state that there's a problem. The young girl at the counter offered to find me a cart - which was very kind of her - and said that there was a manger in, and would I like to speak with him? I doubted it would do much good, to be honest, but since I was going through the effort, I may as well. I chatted with another young girl at the counter about a piece of English currency that she'd received - I'm sure I must still have the Altoids tin of coins I collected through work at that age - until the manager arrived. This was the night manager Louis. All he had to do was acknowledge the problem, take responsibility for the problem, and assure me that steps were being taken to rectify the problem. However, his attitude was generally one of apathy. He passed the buck saying that the store had been busy and that many of the carts had been stolen, which is certainly true; however, given their location this demonstrates a failure of planning. I asked a variety of questions regarding the issue and what was being done to resolve it - I believe more in response to his apathy than any other motive. His entire demeanor was one of conflict, when I asked him for his name he hesitate to give it, then simply said, "Louis". When I asked him for his whole name - which I will not post here - he instead asked me for mine; which I freely gave in full, then offered to shake his hand. He hesitated again, but briefly shook my hand. I then asked him again what his name was, which was when he finally told me. Since it was obvious I was not going to get anywhere with this gentleman, and that my complaint was likely to be written-off and ignored, I asked him who the main manager of the store was - he said that I could call him tomorrow. I said that I may do that, and could I know the managers name to ask for him. He refused to answer. He just kept repeating that his name was Louis and that I could call in the morning. (It may be worth inserting here that there was no failure of communication, his English was perfect.) When I said that his response was ridiculous - that the manager's name would be readily available online and that either he: 1. Didn't know it, or 2. Was refusing to tell me - which was it. He just once again repeated that I could call the manager in the morning. This is the point at which I imagine many people would have broken down and started calling him names. I do wonder if that was his intent. In that neighbourhood such a conflict would have given him cause to call in the station security or police, making him feel as though he'd gained the upper hand. Luckily, I'm a high school teacher so I come across this behaviour all the time; that is exactly how this man was behaving, like a teenage boy. I told him that his behaviour was designed to escalate conflict rather then deflate it - he simply repeated his catch phrase. At which point I shook my head, said, "Good night, Louis." He said, "Good night." and walked away. That might have been the end of the issue; however, as I was approaching the register I heard another gentleman ask Louis where the carts were - he ignored the question and kept walking. At which point this gentleman asked again - loudly enough to draw the attention of much of the store. At this prompting, Louis called him a "stupid a-hole" and kept walking. The gentleman was demanding to know his name and following him. To avoid an escalation I told him that, "his name is Louis and he is the night manager". One of the clerks tried to apologize for him by saying that it had been a busy day and that many of their carts get stollen. However, this is entirely inappropriate behaviour in anyone who holds a management position read more

This store always had customer service issues. Recently though, during these pandemic days, there was such a good improvement. I noticed that the staff are more relaxed or at least they are trying to do so. Many are also very helpful. I definitely would like to make a comment on one particular woman who works in the meat department. Her name is Ann Marie. She is a bully considering I am a senior citizen and struggled to pick up the meat tray I wanted to buy. She accosted me in a very reproachable manner to tell me "pik only what you need". She did not approached other people (two more people doing the same thing I did, to reach under the top trays of beef to see what I could afford to by. It was very obvious that there was prejudice in her approach as I am very native looking senior, struggling to walk and instead of helping me she was very condescending. Sh continued to say that Asians do that. Now, I don't know if she was referring to people who do the same thing I was doing or if she thought I was Asian and I am not. Needless to say, it was a prejudicial comment made by someone who has no inkling as to the issue of people's behaviors and / or a careless opening of the mouth. Ann Marie is a danger to Safeway. If she does the same thing over and over again, she promotes animosity and endangers the other staff of Safeway due to her hatred. I like this Safeway, I liked they put up covid protocols, that I've seen them wiping down the surfaces etc., people serving and packing deli or meat dept wearing masks. I liked that when they were doing it weeks ago, but since July 1 I've noticed a sharp decline in many places including this one. Not a single food prep or deli or bakery or meat seafood server wore masks. Apparently it is policy. I've never seen one staff member make sure people use the direction arrows but thats true of every place out there. Haven't been a fan of Safeway for many years... there was a time when I think they were outright hostile to customers. That has all changed and the staff is... competent... high praise for grocery stores these days. When I was growing up, Safeway was the store we always shopped. For a short-time, I frequented IGA's but now they're the most expensive "standard" grocery store in town. It's new and clean and large, with the usual Safeway selection. Safeway at the skytrain station is very convenient for me. All other grocery chains are a bit out of my way so this is a welcome option, especially when I'm tired after a brutal day at the office, and since Safeway has cleaned up their customer service a bit, I'll continue to shop here. read more

Safeway: POOR Quality, HIGH Prices New Westminster is seriously lacking in grocery shopping options. New West has (includes Sapperton/Queensborough) 3 Save-On's, 2 Safeways & a Buy-Low. All run by http://www.jimpattison.com/industries/food-beverage/. They love to play pricing games! Sure this location is great if you ride transit and live close by and can walk to the store, BUT IT IS SERIOUSLY OVER-PRICED. Everyone knows it too; you can hear the discussions in the aisles. One day I noticed a product that was $2 more than the exact same product sold at Army & Navy (canned goods) on Columbia Street, a few blocks away. I find the worst department is the MEATS. Their ground beef is the most disgusting compared to other grocers. They do not properly separate the meat from the "other stuff". One day I prepared ground beef for hamburgers and the stench was unbelievable. I had never smelled anything like that before it smelled like rotten flesh. It took forever to get that smell out of the house - even with the stove-top fan going. Another time I found weird tubular looking pieces (veins?) in addition to the hard gristle chunks and other matter that does not break down when you chew - it's NOT all meat friends! Interestingly enough when I went to Customer Service to report the issue, there was another customer reporting an issue at the same time with another meat product. The public BATHROOM here is a HEALTH HAZARD - drunks and drug addicts use it leaving behind empty alcohol bottles and bright orange needle caps, with dirty toilet paper/garbage all over the floor and never mind the SMELL - yuck! When I reported the issue to Customer Service/Security they have a very lackadaisical approach to my feedback. They always have excuses such as we just cleaned it. But whoever is cleaning it does a poor job because you can see "crud" built up which is accumulated over time. So this tells me that cleaning is not being done properly. Have a look yourself the next time you are in the store. Often times, you'll find they just put up an "out of order sign" to deal with the issue. Most staff at the tills are friendly. But the other day I was at the DELI and heard a staff member openly complaining about going on a break and being approached by numerous customers asking for assistance. She mocked the situation by loudly saying that she tells customers, "she doesn't know" or "go to customer service". The attitude is often poor with some of the more "crusty", hard-nosed employees. The prepared foods sold in the DELI are INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE and lacking in flavour/nutrition. Essentially they make foods using poor quality ingredients - like store brand products or expiring foods - and then over-charge you. The salads are often overdone with excess sauces (e.g. mayo, oils, etc.) which makes for an unhealthy salad which is too runny (e.g. potato salad). The BAKERY staff are hard to find and you have to hunt for personnel who often don't have the answers to ingredients (e.g. real whipped cream or oil-based whip cream, pricing or where the goods are coming from). The Italian Ciabatta buns are previously frozen and put on the shelf. I thought they were made fresh in the store. But this is not the case - SHOULD FOODS BE LABELLED "PREVIOUSLY FROZEN?" The PRODUCE is nothing to get excited about. The selection is boring and more often than not I'll purchase fruits that don't ripen properly or have ZERO FLAVOUR. You really have to be careful when selecting your produce to be sure you are not buying spoiled or rotting items. Especially pre-bagged items like their red, green and yellow peppers - some are just better than others. I bought nectarines which were on sale and although ripened nicely, were tasteless. OVERALL I don't like Safeway. I only go into this location to buy sale items and even then I'm very choosy. I don't recommend a big shopping trip here. In fact I've never seen anyone here with a large shopping cart full of groceries. Walmart is opening soon at 8th/6th but I wouldn't get too excited over that since their grocery items are not all that great and their goods tend to come from outside of BC and not "local friendly". Alas, New West has a long way to go in terms of offering quality, nutritional and affordable food options. When I have time (weekends), I'll go outside of New West to Lougheed/Commercial Drive/Metrotown and occasionally, Surrey to do major shopping trips. In this economy, we have to save $$$. This has to be the worst Safeway on the planet !!! This was my second and final attempt to pick a few things up on my way home. There is No staff on to assist you if you're looking for something. Only one cashier on so there is always a line up as the cashier moves so slow. Self check outs are useless you end up having to wait for ever !!! for any help when the scanner won't read the bar code. Where is my 10 % off for scanning my own groceries?? The bakery department is always a mess as well as the produce department due to a combination of lack of staff and staff not caring at all . Prices are very spendy thought I was in a pricesmart or save on. Produce extremely expensive not worth looking at. Quality doesn't meet the price. Sorry Safeway won't be back. read more

New Westminster, BC/New Safeway What a nightmare. I have no idea who is responsible for signage for the new Safeway in New Westminster, but whomever it is........is not doing a very good job. We entered from 6th because it said Safeway Entrance.........it was the loading area. So we went around Columbia again, just missing the teeny sign saying Parking. So down Sixth again to Columbia to enter the lower parking area. Once in there, we proceeded to where it said To Safeway.....only to encounter a dead end. In frustration we drove around the parking lot trying to see where it goes up a floor. Of course, it doesn't. Then we noticed that it was paid parking. We asked a worker about that and he said Safeway pays for the parking. So we paid and then tried to find our way upstairs........with three other people that didn't know either. We finally asked another worker who pointed to the stairwell. When we finally got to Safeway with 1 hour parking.......we were in a rush and barely saw the store.... I have no idea how this is ever going to work........ My guess is that we would have to buy 2 hours every time so that we don't have to worry or rush. Then trying to find our way back down to the car did not work either as the area's were not marked well.... so of course, we got lost again....... On our way home we noticed you can enter the parking to the mezzanine area from the overpass but only when going North. I guess when you come out, you would have to go North, as well.....taking us away from the Quay where we live. I am not thrilled with how this all looks.........nor understand the terrible signage........... It was one frustrating day. I suspect we will more then likely go to the Safeway uptown as it is free parking and less confusing.........which is unfortunate because we were looking forward to this area being developed. Since I travel exclusively by Skytrain and the occasional bus, it's the most convenient grocery store for me. I wasn't expecting it to be the size that it is but it does have everything I've come to expect from a good Safeway. They even have hot Chinese food as well as actual sushi people, which I have only ever seen at the Robson Street store in Vancouver. The Meat Department looks fresh and appealing and it seems this is now the only place in New Westminster one can buy live fresh clams, mussels and oysters from a major retailer. Service wasn't just attentive, it was refreshingly honest and homey like a small town store. I've seen more staff around at other Safeways but suspect since this is a brand new location hopefully that will change. Best time to shop was early to mid afternoon to avoid the post work dinner rush and crush. On my most recent return trip I've been informed Safeway will now cover the cost of your first hour's parking on ANY store purchase. Even though I don't drive this might be useful information to those who do. I was told those who pay for parking and have their proof of payment with them at time of check out should mention to their cashier they parked downstairs and Safeway will reimburse your first hour parking. This will not work however with self serve check out though, only with a manned cashier I was told. My barber and the nice Korean folks that own the dollar store uptown with the Lower Mainland's lowest priced cigarettes both had approached me as a matter of light discussion about parking concerns so I've passed that onto them and am glad to share it with all us yelpers too. This earns the last star and I'm going to just allow the entire New Westminster Plaza 88 mall development unfold as construction is still ongoing and hope to hear feedback from my fellow local friends. read more

This place can get pretty busy after work hours with lots of people getting off of the Skytrain and heading home. The store is clean, the food and non-food items are plentiful, and the staff are very helpful. It would be nice if they could open additional lanes when it gets busy but there almost always seems to be a wait in the checkout aisle. There's plenty of covered parking at this store and it can be validated up to two hours with a minimum of $25 purchase. If you're going to be there for up to an hour and buy any item at the store, you can skip the pay parking kiosk altogether. Don't try to be sneaky and go to another store instead of Safeway during this time because there are security guards who could give you a hard time (and possibly more). read more

I used to come here on the way home when I lived in Coquitlam to drop off some empties, get a bus pass and to get some produce if they were on sale. My issue is not with the cashiers who were nice but every time I waited at the customer service booth it was always a long wait when the line was only 2 people deep. They always seem to be under staffed at this location. Actually they seem understaffed at all locations but that's a story for another day. I used to deal with the same lady every time, all of which she was a grumpy cat. I cannot blame her as the staff are over worked with little to no extra help. I even complained to the manager that the store was understaffed. read more

No cashiers in an effort to force people into the self cash out lanes so they con't need to hire as much staff. Given the prices this store wants which is pretty much double what you pay anywhere else I want a cashier to do the job and I want my groceries bagged. Also a huge contention with me NO local produce at all anytime even in the middle of summer. Shows it's an amerikan company as all the produce is from California where they still use extremely toxic chemicals on all their food. NO thanks! read more

They forced IGA out of business (come end of June) so I guess I will be using this Safeway. I live just up the hill. I don't care to pay two bucks for parking even if I get it back. There are frequent issues with no labeling in the bakery or wrong labeling in the deli so you might get a little surprise when you check your items out. It ain't gonna be less, I can guarantee you. The staff? Fairly friendly and helpful in a perfunctory way. Maybe internal politics make the job onerous. Not that I care one way or the other if these people made a good career choice or not. Their last contract was ratified at 3 dollars over five years. Bummer, but as I say, so what? I got my own problems. Too bad I didn't live closer to Superstore. If you don't mind bagging your purchases the savings are significant and the deli is fresher and better by far, using the sushi as an example. Nothing worse to me than stale sushi. I mean with the rice hard and fishy tasting. It is also annoying to be asked to contribute to various causes. I give on the first request and now I'm at the point of asking, "How much did you give?" Seriously, does Safeway match? Welp, that isn't a glowing review but if you don't like it just read some of the gushing ones on top of mine. read more

I have been shopping there cause of the air miles flyer that comes to my north Burnaby house, the flyer says spend $100.00 and get 250 air miles. Then my husband checked our Airmiles account and they are not there. we have to call airmiles ( lucky we kept our receipt ) to get our miles. So this makes me wonder who in Safeway could be taking our Airmiles? read more
