Cheese naan, butter naan, lamb tikka masala. Fish stew curry, side of rice
Celeste M.

Safran is a pretty decent Indian restaurant located in Paris. They are also a chicha/hookah lounge at some point in the day. They clearly display that on the tables throughout the restaurant. The decor is pretty authentic here and the employees are friendly and attentive here. I ordered the fish stew curry (spicy) with a side of butter naan and rice. The fish in the curry is salmon and was very tasty, and according to my friend, quite spicy! Depending on your palette, the staff will try to help you gauge how spicy you should go. My friend ordered the lamb tikka masala which is a little more gentle on the palette. It's a sweeter flavor and the lamb was very tender. The cheese naan was a bit misleading to other naans we've had with this title because it wasn't melted inside of on top. It was more of like a cheese spread with the consistency of butter - not a fan! Overall, decent food here at Safran and a pretty good price.

I've been dying to get some delicious ethnic food that tastes like home. Safran was my third try, and the BEST one I've had so far. The food was good. The service was so wonderful it was reminiscent of the American/South Asian hospitality I so crave living in Paris. Chicken tikka masala was delicious, garlic and cheese naan were so yummy, samosas were crispy on the outside and flaky and soft on the inside (as they SHOULD be) and the mango kulfi put a huge smile on my face. The owner was so sweet to us (we found out his family and my home-town are very near each other), very hospitable, and he even gave us beautiful bindis and free "palette-cleansing" shots after the meal. We were giggling like little girls. Definitely coming back. This place is great.

Still very friendly and fast service. Good food. Decent prices. My staple Indian joint in the Latin Quarters. The appetizers are done fresh and so is the food. If you order spicy you WILL get spicy.

So colorfully decorated. That's true India has the colour of mind.

The very small place is very good. The food has the right amount of spices without being too hot. I would recommend this place.

The food was tasty; I eat plant based and there were multiple vegetarian and vegan options. I had some sweet potato and pepita curry, as well as some lentil daal. My husband enjoyed his chicken madras, and we both loved the veggie samosas with 2 dipping sauces. What made our dinner so memorable was visiting with the owner. My husband asked how his business has done since the start of Covid, and he told us that in the spring of 2020 when businesses were closed and no one was eating in restaurants he ended up cooking and donating thousands of meals over the course of a month to healthcare workers in the nearby hospitals who were working nonstop. It kind of made me choke up as I remembered the kindness so many displayed during that time, and made me hope that others find their way to his restaurant to pay it forward. The food is tasty, and the conversation is great. Go!!

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff who immediately asked if we wanted the English or French menu; the choice is appreciated! We ordered lamb korma and chicken tikka masala with an accompaniment of basmati rice, naan and cheese naan. We also ordered a mango lassi and combination lassi (banana, coconut and mango. The lassis were so refreshing! The meal came out quickly and all dishes were scrumptious. The lamb korma was creamy with a subtle zing that was unique . The lamb was deliciously tender and not gamy at all. The chicken tikka masala was great though a little different from we have had in the past; this was the first time we have the dish with green pepper. I normally and thematically loathe green pepper. But the taste really worked with the sauce and the chicken to make it delectable. The naan and cheese naan were very good as was the rice. As we finished up, the owner gave us a scoop of coconut ice cream and a dessert made of semolina, "hawala" (forgive the misspelling and outright incorrect wording). Not only was it a kind gesture but the dessert was very good. My only criticism is that there was no air conditioning and it was warm. I hope they can fix that because that is the only negative for the restaurant. If you want legit Indian food that's a tad off the beaten path, This is your place!! Thank you, Kashmir!!

Superb Indian food in the Gaîté area near Montparnasse…read more I was craving the flavors of my homeland tonight, and convinced the family to stop by after a memorable Bateaux Mouche River cruise on the Seine. We got to Aasman a little after 10 pm, but they're open till 11:30 so they seated us without a fuss (another family came half an hour after us!). Our teen, who is learning French, enjoyed seeing the Indian dishes she was familiar with described in French! We made her order, and between her French and my Hindi, we managed spectacularly! We started off with lassis (mango for the kids, sweet for the missus and I), followed by appetizers - Chicken Tikka and Onion Bhajiya, which were served with delicious chutneys and pickle. For entrées, we ordered butter chicken (served with basmati rice), and a lamb tikka plate - chunks of lamb pieces with basmati rice, palak (puréed spinach), and the most delicious baingan (eggplant) bharta I've ever had. Their baingan bharta was so good, we ordered another full plate of it a la carte! The other dishes were enjoyed as well, all four of us soaking up every last morsel with our butter naans and basmati rice! We were so full that we decided to order one small dessert and share it. The server recommended a warm halwa with cold kulfi, which was an excellent choice! As I polished off the last few bites of the dessert, I could not help but think that it was the perfect ending to a memorable meal!

It was 3/4 full of Locals at 8:30pm. Restaurant kitchens start to close in Paris around that time. The staff was very nice. I spoke with them in Hindi. The baingan bhartha eggplant was very good. 16€ for a chicken tikka thali. The other option was a lamb tikka thali, or a la carte off the main menu. Naan is 4€, which is kind of pricey but also normal in major cities. I guess it's tourist district prices.
