I was starving. I didn't want French food. I didn't want to wait for a table. I didn't want to search for something. I turned my head. I saw a sign. "Indian okay?" and in we went. It was a packed house, but there was one table for 2 open, and we gladly accepted. The decor is typical Indian hole-in-the-wall, but definitely upgraded from what we get in Brooklyn. We started with an Indian red wine (surprisingly not bad) and split two apps. We chose the eggplant pakora and the fry was so perfect and crisp. I loved using a little drizzle of the tamarind chutney. We also did the fish tikka which had a beautiful flavor and flake. For our entrees, we split a biryani and lamb palak. Both dishes were made very well and the lamb was cooked perfectly. The biryani cane with a sort of curry sauce, which we'd never seen before. I ordered a side of raita with our entrees and it was plentiful. Not a bad choice if you're in the mood for "not French" and the line across the street at Ippudo is too much. read more

I didn't have high expectations for indian food in paris, but I was pleasantly surprised to find some great dishes. First of all, don't get the 12.95 menu because it doesn't come with naan and the entrees aren't really that great looking anyways. Get the $10 one that comes with naan and rice but no entree. Dessert included in both! That naan is practically an entree... I tried the cheese naan and I've never had cheese naan before so I didn't know what to expect. It's basically regular naan but inside is melted cheese, kinda feels a bit like a cheese quesadilla but naan style with thinner dough and stuff. And no wheat/corn taste. It was so good. i would go back just for the cheese naan! Anyways, I got the chicken curry (rather vague as to what kinda curry) and it ended up being a bit like a butter chicken kinda curry. Less tomato-y than tikka massala,, but still very enjoyable. I definitely enjoyed it. My friend ordered the lamb vindaloo and I didn't think it was very good. She liked it a lot though, so maybe I just had a weird bite. So happy I got to have a little taste of home (meaning Berkeley, indian food mecca) here in Paris. I'll be back for sure! read more

My wife and I randomly decided that we wanted Indian food . . . while in Paris. We walked down rue Gregorie de Tours from Boulevard St, Germain, past all the tourist restaurants with people out front trying to convince you to come in for the all inclusive menu. We weren't expecting much, so we stuck to the basics. The cheese nan was great, the Chicken Tikka Masalla was awesome and we had some other spinach and potato dish that was just as good as the other two. I was dissapointed because they had a big sign out front advertising 3 course meals for 12.95. The host saw my wife and I staring at the sign and ushered us in. Once we had ordered drinks they told us that the 12.95 menu was no longer valid... a little sleazy IMO. The food was okay. I ordered Lamb Vindaloo and the wife got Lamb Tikka Massala. Her food was much much better than mine, the vindaloo was not spicy and the lamb was tough. Her lamb fell apart on the fork and the sauce was great. The Garlic Naan is stuffed with margarine and tasted a bit like the cheap garlic bread you buy at grocery stores. I ordered one rice, but was charged for two... again a little sleazy. This all cost us about 40 euros, which is equivalent to $55 or so. There is better food to be had in Paris, especially at this price. read more

We were only in Paris this time for one day and night, then off to the Champagne region, and my hubby was craving some good Indian tandoori chicken and curry! In France? LOL! Well, we saw this little place while walking around...the reviews weren't great, but the food looked good! (We saw the people eating outside). The gentleman that helped us wasn't pushy and was so very nice!! SO GLAD we tried it! On a quiet little side street away from the crowds but still had some foot traffic to enjoy some people watching. Our servers even accomodated us and set up an extra table so we could sit streetside. Everyone was polite, and the foot was authentic and delicious! More people should ditch the touristy places and try this place if they are wanting some tasty indian food! We travel to eat and drink and have eaten at many michelin star restaurants as well as indian restaurants in orange county and San Francisco, and this place was was GREAT! Give it a try! :) I don't even usually post, but hope that this place will succeed! read more

I don't know why this place got only 3 starts by some people. The food was great and service was wonderful. Maybe because we were the only brown people in here, that we might have got better service because the owner was talking to us about the 'motherland'. Nice place with good prices. A very good, very busy Indian resurant in the heart of the 6th. just off the Blvd. St. Germain - in a lively little street packed with eating establishments. The menu is not quite as extensive as a typical 'Indian' in Britain and the food is not quite as hot and spicy as Brits tend to like it. However, the decor and ambience are just right, the curry is extremely tasty and the naan bread is near perfect. Very nearly a home from home! read more

We tried this restaurant last evening and after reading some of the reviews, I was on my guard regarding their service. Firstly, the good : the meal was quite good and when we informed the owner that we came from the 2nd largest indo-canadian community in Canada & we liked our food spicy, they did comply; The food was well prepared though portions were rather smaller in size than we were used to; the total bill with 2 mains, 1 rice, 1 garlic naan (which was terribly undercooked with what looked like raw garlic paste in the center), 4 beers & 1 glass of wine was approx 48 Euros! Now the bad: OH MY GOD, do they try to upsell you and even bring you items that you did not order .... it started with the wine, we had to repeat incessantly that we did NOT want a bottle and my wife only wanted a glass of the house red; it continued when placing our order where we had to insist that we did not want any other items that he repeatedly insisted trying to add to our order to the point that I firmly informed him NO, just what we wanted and lastly, after all this, he still came out and placed 2 cheese naan on the table and was about to walk away when I informed him that we had not ordered them and would not be paying for them which made him promptly remove them. I did check the bill and it was all in order so we paid in cash. Summary, good enough food if you're in need of an Indian fix but watch out for their, at the very least sneaky, if not utterly criminal tactics to increase your spending. read more

It was a dark and stormy night and we needed some good food to warm us from the inside. We chose the Old Kashmir Restaurant on Rue Gregoire de Tours. We were greeted with a complementary taste of a nice white wine (perhaps a chardonnay?). We ordered and were very pleased with everything: Garlic Naan, Agneau (lamb) Tikka Masala, Agneau Kashmir, spinach & paneer and of course the rice arrived perfectly prepared. The service was attentive & excellent. If our time was not limited here, we would definitely return and try other selections. read more

visited this place for takeout my first night in paris. it was early (before 8) and i was the only person there. they were nice and fast and made me a saag paneer even though it was not on the menu. two days later i went for dinner and wanted a table. i suggest that you call ahead and make a reservation. i waited for an hour (there is plenty to do on rue de dauphine while you are waiting) but it was worth it. i was seated just before 10. the only thing that was odd was that the waiter did not want to give me a take away container for my leftovers. i was persistent and he finally gave in. i give it only 2 stars as back in the states i've had better indian food and better service. but in a pinch this place was just fine. hey, i went back. read more

The Rue de Gregorio du Tours is one of those amazingly charming cobblestone alleys that make Paris fun. While wandering down, we came upon Old Kashmir and were initially a little concerned about dining there as there was only one other couple inthe place. However, we love Indian food and took a shot. Bingo. One of the better meals we've had in Pairs. And we're accustomed to good Indian food in San Francisco where there are some 200,000 folks from India and Pakistan.The chicken-tikka-masala (sorry, poulet tikka masala) was very well prepared; the chicken was tender and the sauce savory and of perfect consistency. My wife had a prawn curry where the prawns were huge but absolutely delicious. They'd been in the tandoori before being served with a delicious curry. The garlic nan was perfect. While neither waiter was fluent in English (and neither of us in French), the mutual good-natured attempts at the others' language was pleasant and productive. And to top it off, we were brought an unsolicited mini-snifter of brandy at the end! If you like the cuisine of the sub-continent, don't hesitate in going. read more

From our entrance to our departure, this is one visit to forget. Firstly, despite entering an empty restaurant towards closing time, we were not allowed to take a 4 seat table because there was only 2 in our party (the 2 seat table was very tight). Next, they declared they were sold out of tea. Then the appetizer, pakora, was smelly, indicative of it being cooked several days ago. The lamb saag (lamb with spinach) had no spinach and very little lamb. The chapatti was rock hard. The only notable item was the biryani, which at least was reasonably cooked though the portion was small. Then finally a guest at another table was told his credit card was not being accepted and he had to go to an ATM to get cash. The same thing then happened to us, with 2 different cards, and finally the manager admitted that the fault was theirs. I too had to go and find an ATM. This restaurant sadly gives Indian cuisine a poor name. read more
