What a great thoughtful salon! I booked an appointment with Bethanie for a cut and style. My hair was stringy, and limp from not having a good cut for a while. I had some pictures of haircuts and styles that I showed Bethanie. She was very interested in my ideas and needs, and spent time making sure she understood what I wanted. After receiving a lovely shampoo, scalp, and hand massage, we went to her chair for the cut and style. She consulted with me throughout the cut. When we got to blow drying and styling, she provided good advice and methods on how to achieve optimum results for volume and style. I was so pleased with the end result! It was exactly what I wanted and needed. She is a wonderful stylist! I booked another appointment for a trim, and will be following up with her for highlights in the future. Seamless appointment process online. Ample amount of parking, great welcoming space. Had my haircut with Joselyn. I asked for layers and she delivered pretty quickly which was nice. She asked what concerns I may have and gave me great advice on products to try, water temp, number of days of wash etc. very informative, she made me feel at ease in asking her anything I'm curious about. I'm very disappointed to see recent low star reviews because I think this place is fabulous. Sagittarius offers very convenient online scheduling through Phorest, which I took advantage of. You are able to choose what service you want along with who you would like to work with. If you prefer a specific stylist/spa member you can also make appointments based on their availability. **Reserving an appointment requires putting your credit card on file. You will be charged if you do not show up to an appointment. ** After checking in with the friendly receptionist you can peruse the cute shop they have, which sells clothing and jewelry, or look at the high quality products they sell in-store. You will be taken to get your hair washed, which is the best part because you are given a scalp and hand massage. They also offer many beverages like tea, wine, lemonade, etc. I like Randall a lot and always choose her. She never fails to hype me up and make me feel like a queen *flips hair*. I got a semi-dramatic haircut: I started with a shoulder length bob with forehead bangs and wanted a short Mia Farrow pixie cut. Randall was of course very accommodating and was able to perfectly capture what I wanted. She asked me feel my hair to check the length and see if I wanted it shorter anywhere, which I really appreciated. She cared that I liked my haircut and wanted to make sure I felt and looked my best. You may be a bit intimidated when you first look at all the different services, but the website has great explanations. Recently had a last minute deep issue massage with Michael. The receptionist was so nice and answered my questions. Michael very professional, did an excellent job with the exception of too rough. I was very tense and it was difficult to relax. I even winced owwww few times. . Not my first deep tissue either. So I wondered if this is ok to just take it as I did and researched: no. Deep tissue can hurt but it doesn't have to be painful to be effective, so never think that you have to just take it, if it is too much then speak up and let the therapist know, it should always be to your level of tolerance. if it causes pain and you tense up it's actually counter productive. read more

I had an AWESOME experience here! I was in the area for a wedding and had a melasma flare-up - my skin was in terrible condition and I didn't think I'd be able to fix it in time for the wedding with my own makeup. I booked an appt at Sagittarius on Friday and they were able to get me in on Saturday. The salon is absolutely beautiful with a little boutique in the back. The makeup artist assured me she would cover up the hyperpigmentation and spent less than an hour on my face including lash extensions. I want to start with, I have been receiving facials/treatments for over a decade. With that being said I had a very disappointing facial treatment at Sagittarius. The Ultimate Rejuvenation Treatment, which is advertised as 60 minutes and comes with highest price tag of all the facial services, was the quickest and most minimal of all treatments/facials I've ever received. I was on the bed and checking out at the register, all in 30 minutes. There was almost zero communication as far as asking anything about my personal skin or what I was hoping to get out of this treatment. I was extremely disappointed in how things were communicated to me and the lack of friendliness that came with it too. Overall I feel like many services that are offered at Sagittarius come with a high price tag but lack expertise. The whole experience felt like I had just thrown away $200. Management did call to check in with me, but didn't really offer anything other than say that they would have a chat with their employee about my lackluster of an experience. If you are looking for legit and professional esthetician services, don't waste your time, energy or money. Find yourself a better quality place for your facial treatment and needs. read more

****Warning: Lorah does not know how to cut curly hair even though she is labeled a curly hair specialist***** The haircut i requested was at least two inches longer than what i received, indicating she did not account for how much my hair shrinks when it is dry. My bangs are tiny coils on my forehead (i requested eye level bangs.) My hair was cut as of it were straight. When it was time for my haircut I was sent directly to have my hair washed, Lorah did not interact with my dry curls at all. To be fair, this review is based off of an experience that was several years ago...maybe they've changed. I hope so for their sake. What a freaking nightmare. My first visit was absolutely the only visit I will ever make here. I wasn't seen until like 45 minutes after my appointment was scheduled, the girls were super snooty and pretentious, and then my hair was destroyed. I got a wash...shampoo all through my eyes. Great. I got a trim - more on this later. I got a style - a simple straighten request, ended up with a curling iron being taken to my hair instead. My ear got burned and I didn't get an apology at all. My hairdresser giggled. Really? Once my hair was completely dried and styled, I realized it was crooked...like a good half an inch off. My hairdresser tried to even it out and screwed up the other side. This went on for a good hour or so until my hair had gone from shoulder length (what I wanted) to mid-neck. I looked like a freaking boy. She had ended up taking like 10 inches off when I had asked for a TRIM. And yes, they still made me pay...like $120. Absolutely terrible. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

I have been so disappointed lately in the fact that when I called to make an appointment they told me 6 or 7 weeks out was first available appointment at any time at all period. To be such a loyal customer and not be given any sort of priority in any way. I feel saddened that I must find another hair salon as I truly loved my hairstylist but I feel so disappointed in their available appointments and treatment I received when I called. I love this place. When I moved up here from GA I left behind the best salon in the world. Sagittarius is a close second. If they offered paraffin hand treatments instead of the shoulder rub I'd say they were neck and neck. Lorah is a fantastic stylist and colorist. I've been seeing her for over a year now and she always gets my color right on point. Her sense of style and talent is amazing. I get compliments on my hair several times a week from complete strangers both on the color and the style. They will really spoil you here if you let them! This has been my go to place for years! I've been to all sorts of high end salons from DC to Potomac, nothing compares to Sagittarius. They have high end service with reasonable prices. You'll feel like you're in a spa while you get your hair done, hand massages and treatments while you get shampooed, aromatherapy and shoulder massages before a color service, an array of drinks available, and so much more! I have been coming here & seeing Nicole for about 10 years now. This place is honestly top of the line. From the moment I walked in, I am greeted and instructed on what to do; such as grab a robe and have a seat or follow them to the wash bowl. From the wash bowl it's nothing but heaven. The scalp massage and hand massage that are given are to die for. I am offered drinks everytime. This can vary from water, tea, and sometimes even wine. Nicole is the only one that has ever been OK with doing my long (now short ) thick curly hair. A lot of other places, stylist have actually complain while doing my hair, that if they knew that I had this much they would not have taken me. Nichole is always up for the challenge. She gives me her honest opinion on how hairstyles would look on me and she's not there just to make a buck. She actually cares about the outcome & my appearance. I also use their wax service as well. Some people say it is a little pricey however when getting certain areas wax you would want the highest standard of hygiene and cleanliness near those areas. I'd rather pay $80 to have a clean professional do it rather than go somewhere else that's cheap & sketchy and could possibly end up with staph . The girls that do the waxing are very friendly and make you feel very comfortable while getting the services done. It's crazy to see a lot of negative reviews on how people are not treated correctly or not compensated for a bad a hair cut. I never had a bad haircut so I can't speak from experience but I would think such respectable place would try to accommodate for that. Beautiful salon, but below average service. i came here for makeup and hair for a special occasion, but ended up with an average hurried curling job and horrendous makeup. I'm sure the makeup artists have their experiences and strengths, but they had very little experience dealing with makeup for women of color. I ended up needing to take off the makeup they had put on in their bathroom and redoing it in the car after several failed attempts to communicate with the makeup artists on what I wanted. My friend of Asian descent also was very unsatisfied with the makeup she had gotten and ended up going home before the event so she could redo her makeup. There was also an ambiance of snootiness at this salon. It seemed like the front desk had different attitudes towards different clients. When I did not want to tip the normal amount because of my dissatisfaction with their makeup service, I was met with bad attitude from a girl at the front desk even after I explained my situation, and later heard her disparaging my decision with a co-worker while looking over at me and my group. read more

A friend recommended Janelle, and I was really happy with how thorough the salon was in figuring out what kind of haircut to give me. I filled out a short questionnaire before meeting with Janelle about my personal hair likes/dislikes, time I usually spend on my hair, products I use, etc. She gave me a cut that I not only love (8" off!) but that I'm confident I can replicate at home and is versatile enough to wear straight, curled, or air dried. Hands down the best salon I have found since moving to Maryland! As a matter of fact, Sagittarius is the only salon I now trust with my hair or spa needs and I plan on a loyal customer as long as I am around. Some sound advice if you are thinking of trying them for the first time: you may find a haircut, hair color service , massage or facial ( yes I have done all at Sagittarius multiple times by different team members) for $10-$20 cheaper elsewhere BUT no other western Maryland salon offers the extra perks that make your visit absolutely exquisite! Complementary scalp and hand massages at the wash bowl along with an offer of beverage! In addition, an Aromatherapy and neck massage is included in your color service. And don't even get me started with the spa amenities!! Tranquil relaxation room with cushy sofa, large plush robes, full service bathroom stocked with hair products to freshen up- and OH the rose petal foot bath!! Absolutely delightful!! I made my appointment online a week prior and I wanted a coloring expert to help me choose what I wanted done with my hair. Highlights and mainly something low maintenance to cover my grays. However, your website only gives you 2 choices for coloring! I wasn't aware it was such a BIG deal! I was excited about my appointment but I received a voicemail saying the person I booked with was sick so my appointment would be cancelled! Seriously????!!!! I called back and the receptionist said that I could come at the scheduled time! I got there at 3pm and the girl was already waiting for me Jill was her name! She greeted me and took me to the back as usual. Then she asked what I wanted done. I explained what I had in mind and she gave me attitude and got mad because my appointment was scheduled for color gloss and she did not have time to do the things I wanted! She said "I'll be right back because now I need to figure out what to do with my next appointment" I explained that the online booking only gives you so many choices and that I was originally booked with someone else. She was mad the whole time and she was extremely worried. We finally agreed on what she would do to my hair and she was rushing to get it done! Somebody came over and asked her if she was ready for her next appointment, while she was just staring to do mine!! She freaked out and said "what I need is magician"! She rushed to get the color on my hair and started working on the new appointment which was a quick man's haircut. She finished that and came over to continue with my coloring more relaxed but she would not talk to me at all. She did an outstanding job with my color! I am extremely pleased with the color and cut! The only reason why I am giving the salon 2 stars is for the poor attitude on how you treat your costumers! It is not the first time these girls give attitude to me and others! It was NOT my fault your salon doesn't know how to schedule! Beginning with the rude voicemail saying "so and so is sick so your appointment is cancelled call us back" SERIOUSLY?? My coloring was not FREE to be treated like a second class costumer! I understand her frustration but in the end IT was NOT my fault! The only thing I wanted was a day of pampering and a new look! Which I got from a girl that gave me attitude the entire time. I love my hair color but I am scared to go back there! I also agree with other comments in Yelp about the receptionist's attitude! I have been going here for years. I used to drive down from Chambersburg, PA when I lived there.... And even now that I've moved three hours away (to West-Central PA), I still find myself going back after several unfortunate non-Sagittarius cut and color incidents. I love the relaxing atmosphere...the complimentary drinks and mini-massages given with each cut/color.... Above all, I love my long-term stylist, Codie. It happened again. They could not find my appointment. It was OK last time because they could quickly find an available stylist for me w/o delay. I was hoping they can do the same today, but no luck. They said their appointment system was hacked and all appointment records gone recently, for which they try reaching out their customers to ask rescheduling. That doesn't make sense. How did they know which customers to call? Anyway, maybe they just somehow didn't wish to provide their service to me? I didn't want to argue. Though they suggested me to make a new appointment, I didn't feel right about making another appointment that may get deleted again. It happened twice in a row. It is unfortunate that I ended up with this review because I liked their service I had in the past since last year. Hope they hire a better IT manager or contractor for better appointment system. I mean, system glitch or oversight of saving an appointment record could happen. But all they could offer was to try scheduling another appointment which is not available today. I may be overreacting because I was so ready to have my hair washed after leaving it unwashed for 2 days. But that may be the reason they rejected me? Hope I didn't look too oily today. To my defend, I did take a shower this morning. I just didn't wash my hair because of this appointment I thought I have. That makes me to take a shower again to wash my hair now.
