Had an amazing time walking down St. George Street in St. Augustine. It's one of those places that instantly pulls you in with its charm and history. The whole street is packed with character, from the old style buildings and brick walkways to all the unique shops, restaurants, and little hidden spots along the way. We spent a good amount of time just exploring and browsing, and every corner had something interesting. There are plenty of places to grab a snack, a drink, or just sit and people watch, and everything feels very walkable and relaxed since it's pedestrian only. The atmosphere is what really makes it special. There's a constant mix of music, laughter, and energy, but it still feels laid back and fun instead of overwhelming. You really get a sense of old St. Augustine history blended with a lively modern vibe. Overall, St. George Street is a must visit if you're in the area. Great for walking, shopping, eating, or just soaking in the scenery. Easy five stars and a place we'd happily come back to again. read more

This review has been sitting idle for a while but unknown why since this street is 90% why I love St Augustine. Pure fun walking along the one mile long pedestrian only corridor with boutique shops, bars, restaurants and deep Florida history lining both sides. Recommend highly to stay at the boutique hotel St George Inn. The street is very busy during the day and most shops close early and at dark the area gets flooded with students from the Flagler College nearby. A few kiosks selling ghost tours through the haunted St Augustine area in a trolly or the walking tour through the old jail. Yes, we got sucked in on two different occassions and slightly boring but not pricey. Located at the North end of the street, take two hours out of your day to visit the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument but beware the excessive heat in summer time - really cool cannons though. I love this street! There is so much nostalgia here. It's endless amount of cool places to shop, eat, and drink. Of course this is the street Pizza Time is on and I'll tell you what it gets a little busy due to that place. Get a slice, it's good! I love all the little spots you can sit and have a drink and listen to live music, like Pierre's Pub. There a lot of places to buy cool gifts and souvenirs for friends and family. Nobody visits St. Augustine without spending time walking St. George Street - this is definitely the focal point, the destination, sure there are historical venues throughout the ancient city but I guarantee none sees more foot traffic than this shopping district. I've been to this beautiful city so many times it's impossible for me to put a number to it, friends, family, and business associates all want to experience this walk. As many years that I have lived in Florida I always return to this place and always discover something new or experience something I haven't during prior trips. Whether you're here for the expansive shopping opportunities, the foods from so many cultures or an ice cold beer, top shelf spirits or an ice cream cone it's all here. I've walk this street for years and I'm sure I've stepped inside most of the establishments that line this street, sometimes to get a little air conditioning other times to spend a little cash. What can I say about Saint George Street that hasn't already been said? It is the heart of the city after all! From what I understand, it always has been the heart of St. Augustine and it remains that today. It is a street full of shops, restaurants, specialty shops, etc. Personally, I live nearby and I just simply enjoy walking around down there. I really enjoyed it in 2020 when it was like a ghost town/street with no people. You could really get the "feel" of it and its history. You can still find quiet times to enjoy it in the morning and in the evenings without so many people. It has always been touristy, but not as extreme as it is now, especially these past few years. We need the tourist to make our city "go"...I play tourist too! That said, sometimes hanging out to people watch is an interesting pastime on St George St. since we get visitors from all over. It can be equally interesting to talk to people to see where they are from. Sadly, it is becoming overpopulated in St. Johns County overall and of course, that means more people doing everything in the downtown area. Sometimes it can be unbearable and difficult to enjoy St George Street. Overcrowding definitely makes it less charming, but there is still charm to be had, see, do, etc. Let us not forget this is the heart of our city... The street is not open for cars. There are parking lots all around, and our city parking garage is nearby. Plus, there is street parking. Most parking in St Augustine in general cost, and there are very few free spaces. However, some lots and areas are free after 5 p.m. and on Sunday. Check the city website for more information pertaining to the lots/spaces in which you wish to use/park. We NEVER asked for the manager but 3 staff told us the manager wanted to speak with us. The manager made the experience unacceptable. We walked the whole street and looked in windows and came back down and started going inside places we liked. It was a little crowded but take your time and really enjoy your time. It's got a mixture of history alongside some unique finds. I enjoyed the coffee shops and the food but there's some neat options. Yes, as a tourist you have to visit here at least once: the pedestrian-only street in Old Town St. Augustine full of unexpected finds. Sure, there are plenty of historic attractions, but also great bakeries, shops, galleries, and restaurants-and you will want restaurants after walking and exploring the side streets! If you visit St. Augustine for the day, a weekend or for a week. You will see something different each time you venture out on to St. George Street. When I visit St. Augustine for the weekend, I will alternate my stays at Victoria BNB on Aviles Street or a stay on the Beach in a hotel or a BNB, then on my favorite place to stay is at St. George Inn. I absolutely love St. George Street. All of the shops, coffee houses, places to dine, the Ring Man(Abdul has been making rings here for more than thirty years), ice cream shops, candy shops, and so much more. One music venue place is here, the Oldest School House is on St. George Street. The Pirate Museum is wonderful. I like the Mill Top Bar, the No Name Bar. You can get food at both all of the bars. It does get very hot here, so visit prepared. Wear at hat, bring a bottle of water and take mini breaks as you need. They do have benches to sit on. I am a huge history buff. You'll find plenty of it along Saint George Street which is located in the oldest continuously occupied city in the United States. As many times as I've walked along this street, I never grow tired of it. It's just amazing to see all these old buildings, the coquina, etc. and realize how long it's all been here. You'll even find the oldest schoolhouse in the United States along this street. There are tons and tons of shops. Many of them are tourist traps with souvenirs, but there are some really unique shops along here too. You'll also find some great restaurants and shops to get snacks like flavoured popcorn, ice cream, fudge, etc. It's not uncommon to see street performers or people dressed up in pirate costumes. They are all more than willing to stop and take a photo with you. It's easy enough to push a wheelchair down the street, but because the buildings are so old, many of them are not handicap accessible. It can also be difficult to find parking in the historic area of St. Augustine. You'll have to get lucky to find a free spot on one of the surrounding streets, or you'll have to pay to park in one of the lots. This is a great place to spend several hours (or longer). While you are here, make sure to stop and really take in the history. read more

Is it a tourist trap- absolutely! But is it still fun? Can you find treasures? Heck YEAH! Plenty of food and drink choices, local artisan finds, your traditional touristy souvenirs and so much more! Rich with history, this business packed street has something for everyone. Walk this street right down the middle- only the cross streets are open for vehicles. Dip into various stores- you can grab t-shirts, hats, a new wardrobe! Then there is the jewelry and watches- accessories galore. Don't forget the art- what do you like? Upcycled local art? Drift wood art? Shell art, paintings, metal craft, glass art? You name it you can find it. Add in some exotic finds- you have yourself a literal treasure hunt. Plus all the restaurants! Prohibition Kitchen, Pizza Alley and more ice cream than you should have to choose from all in one place! At the north end of the street are the City Gates! Be sure to pop into the relatively new distillery too- City Gate Distillery- aptly named. I love grabbing a soft pretzel and frozen lemonade while I stroll. Very much like the "ultra cool" Lincoln Road in Miami but with historical value in lieu of glitz and glamour... They say it's built hundreds of years ago... but for a building built 300 years ago, can someone explain how that building has "modern" cinder blocks". Call me a pessimist. It's old and has a cool vibe but it's over the top touristy and feels built to look old; almost the way it feels in many of the entertainment areas at Disney like Hall of Presidents. It's funny, when you walk down the street (which is banned from vehicular traffic) you can be taken in with the architecture but I can't imagine anyone loves the shops and store fronts. Of course there is exceptions like "The Bunnery" but the retail shops are just silly. If I'm offered another piece of taffy I'm going to....... or the sword store, what? Of course, I'm willing to acknowledge the age of Saint George Street and all the history that has taken place along it. And if you're unaware of the history, it's colorful and interesting and if you're not much of a reader then at least peruse the Wikipedia listing. Love this Street! There are no cars allowed, but on the Saturday we visited; lots of foot traffic. There are literally hundreds of cute restaurants & shops, mixed in with some Florida history. There are stores for everybody, stores with jewelry & women's fashions, stores with flags & garden decor, stores with Florida souvenirs, and even stores for dog lovers and cat lovers! In addition to the many cute restaurants, and bars, (Spanish, Irish, Thai, Italian, etc....no chain restaurants here,). They also have chocolate shops, ice cream shops, and even popsicle shops! If you're not a shopper they have the Oldest Wooden School House, where you can take a tour, and the St. Augustine Colonial Experience where you can see what life was like in St. Auggie almost 300 years ago. An absolute must if you visit st. Augustine! This historic street is one of the main reasons St Augustine was put on the map. It offers a great way to see a bunch of old historic buildings that have been converted into fun and whimsical shops. It also has some of the best restaurants in the area. As you venture down the street be sure to be on the lookout for the oldest school, several chocolate shops, some great local jewelry makers, and of course several good places to eat. I highly recommend the Lions Head Pub if you haven't been before. Don't miss out on a bunch of shops in several different locations that are located just inside of another storefront. Due the limited amount of space on the Main Street a lot of stores have built into some of the buildings. The walkway and street is not covered so if it's a hot Florida summer I strongly recommend sunblock, sunglasses, and a hat. Overall: A An absolute must! read more

This is the ultimate, overcrowded tourist trap. We took the Christmas light trolly tour which was very nice. The town is full of history and has very nice shops. The biggest problem is the parking and if you are able to get any parking. The minimum parking fees are $15.00 but the you will see prices up to $30.00. You will make it a one time visit. read more

This is your typical American historical tourist area. Lots of history and shopping, restaurants, and places to walk. But you'll be walking with large groups of people, circling the parking garage at the visitor center for 20 minutes before you find a spot, and see the same overpriced items from store to store. There wasn't really anything bad about Saint Georges Street but there's nothing that made me want to stay more than a couple of hours or return. read more

I frequent St. Augustine often and never get bored of walking down St. George Street! Every time I go, I find something new. There are soo many restaurants, stores, bars, ice cream and fudge shops, and torture museum and old wooden school museum! It's also the main starting point for several of the walking ghost tours. There are several bathroom stops and they are kept decently clean. You can also find kiosk to purchase tickets. I highly recommend stopping at Likit DoleWhip and try the pineapple float! read more

Most of St. George Street is a quaint pedestrian street. You feel like you are somewhere in Europe or Latin America when you walk down the street from the St. George Inn towards the plaza! There are lots of shops and attractions along the way. It was cool to see a shop called Casa Rodriquez. That's my last name haha! Well, it should be a "g" and not a "q" but anyway.... I loved the tour we checked out at the Pena-Peck House! Although too many of the shops are cheesier than you'd like (avoid the shops that do not have a store front but instead are crammed into shopping "alleys" of sorts that are perpendicular to the street) there are also some gems on and just right off of St. George St. If you want seriously good tapas try The Tasting Room. Best I have ever had! Great baked goods can be eaten at The Bunnery (awesome pecan sticky buns!) and they have tasty breakfast food there too - plus they are cheap. For the best souvenirs try Materialistic. We got cool t shirts there! It's amazing that such a touristy street can have such cool stuff. Usually, touristy = cheesy and some things here are just that. Sadly, most of the buildings on St. George Street have been reconstructed. Still, they have history. You can see plaques on some of their walls that mention who lived in the property during the Spanish and other eras. There are tons of photo opportunities here and it's great for people watching! Always a fun place to spend a few hours and peruse the shops or grab lunch or snacks. There's tons of local artists as well as souvenir & specialty shops to patronize. The best time to go in my opinion are the cooler months like October to April/early May because summers can be pretty brutal and the tourist crowds can be a bit overwhelming. If you want to stay in & around St. George Street, I say check out the adorable Bed & Breakfast accommodations. Some of them are so well done and conveniently located to everything downtown. Saves taking the car and very easy to explore on foot. Overall, the shops, restaurants and galleries are ever changing on St. George Street. What you see this year may be replaced next year. St George Street is one of my favorite parts of St. A. If you love history its a great part of our history so get a book about it or a tour. The original buildings have been rebuilt according to their original blueprints as the English had come in and rebuilt over most of the Spanish buildings. Don't miss taking a tour of the Schoolhouse and the Spanish Hospital (not directly on St. George). Even though the Hospital is tiny the history of it is amazing. St George Street has a few very touristy souvenir shops that are worth skipping but there are also some great hand made jewelry stores, crystal shoppes, and great eateries. At the end of the street are the Old City Gates where there is a rumored ghost of a young girl. Even though the Ghost Tours are a bit kitch check one out at night! read more

Okay, so yeah, you have to walk Saint George Street, because it's the most visited street in St. Augustine, and it's very classic. But geez is it a crowded tourist trap. The shops are all sort of gimmick-y tourist shops and you can barely walk because there are so many people. It's worth seeing, especially if it's your first visit to St. Augustine, but if you're a little uncomfortable in crowded places (me! me!), I'd make it a quick walk through. I should mention that in the mornings before it starts to get crazy, even St. George Street is beautiful and calm. If you're an old-before-your-timer like me, I'd go in the morning! read more

I actually love this part of St Augustine. It's beautiful and quite a nice way to spend an afternoon or evening walking about. There are musicians on the side streets busking and you can hear music coming from many restaurants and bars along the way. There are plenty of options for a meal or a snack. We had ice cream at Kilwels that was really good. The parking is a huge issue. I don't think there is a free lot anywhere. We chose to park cross the street from the Pirates museum, which was really great by the way, and paid $1.25 per half hour. You have to pay in advance so guestimate your time there. We were there on one of the hottest days ever. I would advise not to visit this street when it's going to be hot. A significant number of establishments we visited did not have AC. We've visited in the evening and the temperature was perfect, although a few stores were already closed. read more

I loved Saint George Street when I went back in April. While finding parking was a bit of a hassle (really not that bad), it was totally worth it. We had to park on the street about a five to ten minute walk away from Saint George street but the walk wasn't too bad. Saint George Street is so cute and it is located very close to Castillo de San Marcos. There are a bunch of little shops and restaurants all over the place. The buildings are all so nice and you can just stop by anywhere and grab a drink or some food or see some cool shops and attractions. There's not much going on, it's really just a nice chill walk down a street lined with shops. At the end of the street, there's a place where you can try all sorts of hot sauces that are rated depending on how spicy they are and that was... amazing. 10/10 would most likely come back to St. Augustine just for that one shop. I would definitely recommend Saint George Street if you're just looking for somewhere to take a nice casual stroll. read more

We were on our way to Jacksonville, for a high school band competition; and, decided to take a detour to St. Augustine. My wife and I have been coming to St. Augustine for decades; and, every visit it gets better and better. We found a terrific parking spot, thanks to Google Maps, where we could pay by the hour. Since we hadn't planned to be here all day, it worked out great. We enjoyed shopping with some other high school parents; and sharing a meal with them... MORE reviews to follow.
