Saint Leo University has an incredible campus that is expanding every second. The influx of inquiries and applications has forced Saint Leo to renovate some of the historical one story buildings to three story buildings. I obtained my BA from Saint Leo back in 2011 and the campus was beautiful with a lake in the back, palm trees through the campus, tons of open areas with shaded seating areas, and plenty of space to throw Frisbee or just relax. I am now back in their Graduate program because I couldn't stay away. I take a majority of my classes at a small Lakeland location that is included in the Sykes building, but I had to make the 1hr drive to the University campus for this most recent class and I couldn't be more excited. I was bummed out when I first heard that I had to make that long drive after work, but all those negative thoughts disappeared when I stepped foot on campus and witnessed all the changes that occurred since I graduated. The Crawford building (mostly criminal justice classes) was transformed from a one story building to a 3 story masterpiece called Kirk Hall. The bottom floor has some cutting edge classrooms with touch screen monitors, computers for use, and 2 separate seating areas. The new Donald Tapia business building is also a 3 story building that has innovative layouts for the classrooms. The library is incredibly cozy and most of the buildings have free coffee for anyone. The campus is smaller because it is a private school, but I can't help but want to learn when I walk around. I may consider just making the drive once a week to the main campus because I love the atmosphere so much! Watch out for parking though! All parking lots require a yellow or red parking decal and a ticket or towing could be a result if you don't pay attention. There is only 1 visitors parking area in the front by security, but there is also a LARGE parking garage located towards the back of the school that also shows you how many spots are open. Guests can park anywhere after 5pm, so just keep that in mind. Be careful when first entering the campus. There is a round about and students routinely speed straight into the round about without looking. There is HUGE level change from going in or going out of the round about, so be careful with bottoming out for your car's sake. The events are never ending on campus with plenty of public attendance encouraged, so be on the lookout for credible guest speakers and performances that will blow your mind! I withdrew from St. Leo last spring. I just received a phone call from a collections company saying that my tuition was sent to collections for past due tuition that they charged me for the summer. Even though I had withdrawn, was using the GI bill and had not received any correspondence stating that I was being charged tuition for a term that I was not enrolled in. I called, after waiting an hour on hold, and they said that maybe my counselor signed me up for courses. Now I have to contact admissions, get a statement from them that I was not logged in or attending the summer session and still have to go through the collections company to pay. All of the correspondence that I had received were text messages asking how the semester was going, which I always replied I am not enrolled or attending. Thanks for ruining my credit with putting something in collections that shouldn't have been there to begin with. read more

I am an alumni at Saint Leo University and I will say so much has changed for the better. It's good to see a university that truly appreciate and invest in their students education. One of the reasons I love going to Leo was because it felt like a family atmosphere and there was always so much to do. The campus is beautiful and continuing to grow. The campus is taken care of upkeep is very well the ground screwed as a great job of making sure pride is taken. The buildings are very clean. There's so many options for food and an amazing and new pool. You're looking for a school right outside of the Tampa Bay area that stands true on its values this is where you want to be. read more

I spent four years here. I wish I had transferred while I had the chance. Other students and I had a lot of issues with professors being genuinely mean and being lazy. Once I showed up to my 8:30 am class for my professor to play a YouTube video of another professor teaching the subject. The dining hall food was often bland, overcooked or undercooked and gave us food poisoning on more than one occasion. Something I find unacceptable for how expensive the meal plans are. The dorms smelled damp and often had issues with mold. My first week of school I got a respiratory infection from being in the dorm. We also had issues with the heating turning on the n the winter time and despite maintenance telling us it was fixed it wasn't. I did however like the events that went on. Our spring and fall festivals were nice. Getting to go to Universal studios for $20 was the highlight of my year. We could watch movies on the lawn, get airbrushed shirts, have food trucks visit and more. It was also a pretty famous to look at. But it doesn't make up for the other stuff. I wish I had gone to a more cost effective school. I started before COVID and in recent years the school has gotten itself into financial hardships. We even had a change of Deans because of egregious spending. The tuition hikes haven't made campus life any better it just hurts my pockets. read more

Volleyball Coach Abby Moser-Keim and her husband and brother are monopolizing this school. She just got hired this February and recruited three girls but claims she didn't have a say and was "stuck" with the girls from other coach. Funny thing is she had time, she had lots of time, many girls don't get recruited till August (she recruited one in Aug) We had 2-3 on our club team that weren't signed and that is 1 team out of 1500 teams in USA that she could choose from. She's just wants a "out" on why they loss this season. But the funny thing is the she played her 1 out of 3 recruits non stop and she was horrible "shanking balls non stop" and at one point she put all four OH in front of her on serve recieve( hide her in back corner) when "her position" is suppose to be the "best serve recieve player" on the court the "Libero!" Now the game is 5 aganist 6!! This player can do no wrong and when she does she gets to more chances and opportunities than those who only make less mistakes!! After all her errors she still wear the jersey-- confusing?? But guess who this one player/transfer/new recruit is, her little sister and she never told anyone this was her sister. She hid it from her players knowing it was wrong but she and the AD should know this would cause issues and attention. So you, Coach Abby choose to do this your first year at the new job, then you need to accept the criticism! You choose a job that you are in the public eye- You need to accept criticism from all- players, coaches, parents, and fans!! You need tougher skin it's part of the job! .She hasn't coached in 5+ years and it shows. Last time she coached she was an "assistant" and wow has the game of volleyball changed and she has no clue and it shows as she sits there and has her "assistant" doing all the coaching during the games. You don't know who the head coach is when your watching. The girls have regressed from the beginning of the year. This proves she hasn't coached or developed the girls!! Our record shows it. She is crude, rude, and immature. She could of been honest from the start and tell everyone about your sister, your plans for the team/player, and give the new recruits or old, especially all those who "play your sisters position" a chance to find a new home. This would of opened your rooster, budget, and not cause a bad moral Amongst the team, parents, program etc. it just shows her immaturity and not fit for this position of leadership. I believe hiring her was a mistake and not a good direction for this school, program, and athletics. read more

Saint Leo University has four new degree programs in response to workforce needs over the next 10 years. The College of Health Professions for the Spring Semester 2022 will offer an online, upper-level coursework leading to a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT). Employed respiratory therapists with associates degree will be able to learn to be team leaders and managers in the field. Very impressive and organized campus visits. read more

I transferred to Saint Leo University during my sophomore year, from a different college. I have since transferred out of Saint Leo due to the fact that my degree program, international hospitality has been discontinued by the university. The good: There is none. The bad: Be ready with your bucket of popcorn to read this. Overall, the campus is pretty. It was maintained well. One of the things that got me upset was that the mowers would come at 6am to mow the grass, while I was trying to sleep. Dorms: The apartment I was in was very nice. It came with a private bedroom for 4 people, 2 bathrooms, and a large living room for all 4. It came with a full size fridge and microwave. I had to switch to a very similar room in-between semesters because I had a horrible roommate situation. The Res Life department was hard to come by when it came to roommate situations, as in the fall 2022 semester, they were at 100% capacity for all dorms. I was trying to switch out earlier, but it didn't work out until the start of the spring semester to move into the new room. The old room also flooded. We never found the source of where the water came from. We never got housekeeping to come because it was on a Saturday when it happened. The carpet cleaner didn't come until very late. It was a messed up day that day. Food: RUN AWAY!!! It is HORRIBLE!!! There was only 3, supposed to be 4, dining options on the campus. There was the dining hall, a market, and a coffee shop. There was supposed to be a wellness center cafe, but that closed a month after the fall started due to no staffing. There has been no talk with that cafe re-opening for the next school year. The food was better during the hours of lunch, during the week, only. The hours on the weekend were terrible, as they closed the dining hall at 6pm. I found myself ordering delivery through third-party services every weekend due to the fact that I was starving at 7pm if I went to the dining hall at 4:30pm. Not good at all for the students staying on campus. Please keep in mind that if you live in a dorm that does NOT have a full kitchen, you are REQUIRED to be on the top tier meal plan. It was the unlimited but they have switched it to the 19 meal plan. Events: Saint Leo had events going on their campus daily during the week, but not on the weekend. I found myself extremely bored on the weekends as there was nothing to do. The only time they had something going on the weekend was fall family festival and the open houses they had. I didn't have a car, but was told that things to do was up to a 30 minute drive each time as Saint Leo is in the middle of nowhere. It was very hard to find something to do on the weekends. Classes: I had some really good professors and some horrible professors. I had a professor fail me for a class because I was sick with the flu during an exam, and did not let me make it up. I also had a professor that did not use the D2L platform correctly, making it hard to understand what assignments were due. If you are struggling with a class, I found myself either at the tutoring center or at the library studying with other classmates to understand the materials. Classes are not easy, they make you work hard. Please use RateMyProfessor when finding a professor for your classes. Also, please go to your academic advisor instead of the student success coaches because you will wait up to 3 hours to meet with a coach while you can just walk up to your academic advisor to talk to them, like registering for classes for a future semester. Others: All of the other departments were fine to deal with. Mail Room was very easy to work with. Saint Leo does have Greek Life, but they are always promoting their groups. I was not into Greek Life. Please keep in mind that Saint Leo is going through a lot of financial uncertainty at the moment. They had to make an announcement back in February that laid off 111 positions, discontinued 3 degree programs, discontinued 6 sport teams (cross country, track & field, and swimming), and some other things. The school is very broke, and I feel like new students going into the school are going in with high expectations, but it will not be what they are expecting. I am afraid for the new students as I do not want them to deal with what I am doing. Well, that was it. I am currently in the process of finding a different college. I do wish that people will read this to make sure do you really want to go to Saint Leo as your college of choice. Thank you read more

The best part of SLU besides the Abbey on Campus is the professors. They keep the university alive. Period. The Fuz got me sick every time because they never change the oil. They messed up my husband and 3 of my friends' graduation because the registrar doesn't accept replacement classes (after they approved the replacement classes). The financial aid department is horrendous and almost gave my friend's scholarships to another student. The pre-recorded voice during graduation messed up my name even after I sent a pronunciation. My best friend took 6 classes and an internship to graduate early (got the approval of her advisor and the school) and now that midterms are coming up they're telling her that she can't walk at graduation because none of those classes will count. Everyone that I know that has stayed in the dorms has had to throw out belongings because by the end of the semester, they are covered in mold. Every building has mold. read more

The first time I had to drop a class due to a medical issue, no issue. Unfortunately, I had a second issue (not my fault!) and I am prohibited from registering and am told that I owe them 2000 dollars! I DIDNT EVEN GO FOR A WEEK! I got NO VALUE from this class. The Student Policy has guidelines, yet they are inconsistent in administering them. I appealed, and appealed, and appealed. I have been fighting this for an UNCONSCIONABLE 18 MONTHS! I have contacted different offices/people for nearly 100 attempts. I cannot transfer because they are holding my transcripts. The Registrar was of NO HELP FOR THE LAST YEAR! Their attorney stalled me and made empty promises for nearly two months, and I cant register FOR YET ANOTHER SEMESTER! This is holding my career and my life. GO SOMEWHERE...ANYWHERE ELSE! read more

The Student success Advisors help you in every way from setting up classes , help in your classes incase you need tutors and any other minor problems you may face during your education experience in the campus. This is my first year at Saint Leo and I can't say that it's what I wanted it to be. I've had trouble with one professor, trouble with the financial department, and adapting to a connected classroom setting has been hard for me. One good thing about Saint Leo, however, are the Student Success Coaches. It's very easy to meet with them via Zoom and they are extremely helpful when it comes to setting up courses, helping assist in your preferred major, and just being a great mentor. Saint Leo University became my home away from home. The education which I was allowed and afforded to earned, opened has given a plethora of opportunities.
