This review is for the BSF bible study & the church building & grounds only. NOT the church…read moreservice. The church is a big building way larger the it appears from the outside. The grounds are kept very nicely. The inside of the building is always clean as well as the restrooms. Everything is always very tidy & in excellent working order. I attend the BSF bible study group at this location & everyone is extremely friendly. The groups & fellowship are welcoming & great in educating you. The children's class rooms & programs are awesome. The kids are learning just as the adults are but they have some play time worked into their schedule. The adults play time is during groups. The 'play' the the adult get is the interaction talking about the bible & learning from it. Even though it has a leader it is really more group lead. The attendees talk with each other & help you understand & expand your Bible knowledge. To me this is the best way to learn & it is very fun & informative.

The first time I went, I noticed a few things: it was in a warehouse - no stained glass windows in sight - also, the pastor was in jeans and a t-shirt, and someone I'd never met came up to me after worship and gave me the biggest hug ever. I can also say that the sermons are incredibly engaging, and somehow always seem to speak to me right where I am. Folks, this is a special kind of place. Communion is available every week, and you don't have to be a member of the church or take any classes or anything to come to the table. Offerings are taken with the lights dimmed, so no one is taking note of anyone else's contribution. Worship comes in more forms than just music - painting, poetry, dance - and is intense and candid. You get the sense that you're among people who aren't trying to pretend to be better than you - they're there because they need God and love him. Pastor Michael works straight through the Bible (rather than preaching topically) and truly hides behind the cross to allow God to speak to his people rather than just hearing what Michael has to say. The pastoral staff all share this humility and are compassionate, dedicated people, and have become true friends of mine. Something else worth noting is that they have a really interesting program going wherein every fourth Sunday, they close the doors and cancel church and take the entire congregation out to serve the community. It might be cleaning up the grounds of a community facility, raking leaves for people for free, bringing food to folks in the community who are having trouble making ends meet, or just hanging out at a nursing home listening to the residents and encouraging them in the Lord. The people at DC specialize in loving people to life. I have felt, in a few other churches, that folks have looked down their nose at me - not at DC. Not that it's perfect, but it is a community full of loving, real people. No masks in sight. Uncomfortable? Sure. But you'll grow. :)

The teaching is boring and no one speaks to you. Will not return. I am amazed at the affect one man had on this entire church.

I serve as a Regional Minister for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Greater Kansas City. New Market is one of our 78 congregations and I have worked with leaders in this congregation over the last several months. In that time they have done tremendous work to create and practice policies that safeguard the well-being of all who come onto their campus. For many years their pastor was a professor of archaeology who helped members read the Bible again with a fresh perspective. Today they have one of the best preachers I have heard in many years - a younger man who is helping the good people of this congregation to embrace a future of hope. This is a loving, welcoming community whose best years are yet ahead and I am happy to refer all who wish to find, grow and practice their faith in Christ to visit.

The pastor also uses ad hominem insults, a logical fallacy to deflect from his poor defense. He tries to say anyone criticizing the church must be an evil, depraved person. If he had a good defense of his church's actions he would not need to throw out insults at those rightfully speaking up in the defense of the victim.

Great message every week! Pastor (Troy) and his wife (Janet) always deliver a meaningful,…read moreinteresting and pertinent message. The choice of music is good but the volume is OUTRAGEOUSLY LOUD!! They offer earplugs for those who still have good, sensitive ears. I suggest to come late and avoid the auditory assault and sit near the back. However the auditorium has great acoustics, so when the volume is excessive there is no place to avoid it. The message is so good that hundreds of people put up with the music each week. Also the members are very friendly and they even have snacks and coffee at every service.
