Separate church and State. It's a mistake to mix the two. Also, the quality of the church went downhill through the torrent of pastors and settled on one who doesn't fit the area or my needs. By my standards, he's a stale, pale, male, and his preaching was exclusionary. His answer would be (I've heard it) to "don't ask him, ask God; read your Bible." I have. I'm glad not to have the leadership of souls in my hands, it's true. However, when I arrived at this church, I was so impressed with the teaching and the ability to remain silent where the Bible remains silent on topics. I specifically remember Lon saying, "Where the Bible is silent, we can have opinions, but we must remain silent as leaders and counsel prayer." It's clear that Lon has opinions. He's made them clear and public now, but not when I attended MBC. When that ended, so did my attendance at this church.

Vine Church is a wonderful multi-cultural multi-generational church. It is one church in two…read morelocations. Vine Church-Dunn Loring is just a short walk from the Dunn-Loring Metro and Vine Church-Graham Road is located in Falls Church VA. The dress is casual and the pastors are welcoming down to earth people. Both churches are new church plants looking to cater to those who have never been to church, don't know anything about God, curious, but at the same time welcomes those who have a relationship with God. The service is a mix of casual and traditional elements. You can drink coffee and eat snacks from the free coffee bar while worshiping to contemporary music. Communion is served every Sunday. The members are friendly and the Children's Church leadership is awesome. The church also has a teenage ministry that meets every Sunday. There are small groups that you can attend and each group is different. There are also church get togethers and community outreaches happening throughout the year for all age groups. There is something for everyone at Vine Church!

After attending this church for about a year and a half, I can tell you that I truly love this…read morechurch - for the community, the sermons, the discipleship intensives, the pastors, and everyone who works so hard to make this a community in a region where politics and people constantly change. Many people joke that a church review "can't really be bad" - I mean, Christian people tend to be on the nicer end! But if we're talking about churches that are truly centered around the core gospel of Christianity, I think a lot of churches would fall short on the spectrum. I didn't find that problem here at GCCC - in fact, I wasn't a believer until I started coming to this church, with foundational questions I needed to answer before I became a Christian. Why did God create us if He knew we were going to have original sin? If Christianity is a religion about love, then why was there bigotry about the LGBT community? Why did God seem angry in so many books of the Bible? Well, spoiler alert, I got all of those questions answered through discipleship intensives, sermons, and small group - and I got baptized in 2018. What kept me coming was the great fellowship of this community - people are kind and friendly, and they have a great small group culture, where they foster growth in faith. The denomination is missionary focused (hence the name), with missions trips and alliances/partnerships around the globe. But I think that the best part is that every week, the deliberate songs of worship and the sermons, no matter what book we're on, tie back to the only central message that matters - God has loved us, and continues to love us through giving his only son, Christ, so we could have eternal life. That's it. The church has two branches - one in Pentagon city, where mostly younger professionals flock to, and one in Tyson's where the congregation consists of mostly families. I would also say that one note is that the congregation is mostly Asian, and I would love to see more diversity in the church! But as an Asian American myself, it makes me happy that there are many members who share a common cultural background. That being said though, I would LOVE to see people of all ethnicities come together under this loving community. :) All in all though, I can truly call this church my spiritual home!

They offered a variety of Mass times, which was nice and I chose the Sunday 7am Mass so I wouldn't be late for the last session of my conference. The Church is fairly large and that morning there was a visiting celebrant priest from a neighboring Catholic high school. He was a joyful priest and I enjoyed his homily. I'm not used to all of their Extraordinary Ministers who were distributing Holy Communion and I prefer to receive from the ordained priest. I like to veil at Mass and I was the only lady wearing one--which is fine as my reverence is for the Lord, Who is present here.

We were privileged to be in a small group in Daniel's home where he led studies in Romans and 1 Corinthians. Also, Daniel oversaw the Deepening Your Faith/Apologetics ministry that gave us a solid foundation for our Christian worldview. Daniel takes to heart 2 Timothy 2:15 and carefully and correctly explains God's Word. God has used him to teach us how to study the Bible - exegesis/seeking the original intended meaning of text. As believers, we should steer clear of those teachers who make the Bible say whatever they want (eisegesis). With Pastor Daniel, you will get God's Word carefully taught for His glory. (The hubby says, "Daniel teaches deep biblical truth in a way that it is easy to understand - truly an anointed teacher.") During a Bible study, I remember Pastor Daniel saying, "Much of the New Testament is about loving the brethren." Loving the brethren can't be done in isolation. You will be loved well and will be able to love others at Providence Baptist Church.

The Wife and I came by here to do a little "church shopping" and see how things are there - it's a part of us trying to "plug in" to the Korean community here. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut...I didn't get a good vibe from this place. Here's why: 1. When you walk in, there are greeters at the door. However, these folks somehow manage to be familiar with the several thousand faces that walk through those halls every Sunday. When my wife and I went to walk in, one of the ladies stopped us and wanted us to fill out an address card. I declined since 1) doing so only invites unwanted visitors to your home and 2) we didn't make up our mind that this was the congregation that we wished to join. Her mind didn't seem to process this as she continued to press me to fill out a card. When I told her we were "church shopping," her response was, "well look no further, you found the congregation you need." Ummm....what? How do you know this? 2. The place is too damn big. Seriously. It actually starts to give me the creeps. I understand that immigrants to the area, particularly in the Korean circles, tend to gravitate toward population venues such as churches and associations. But man, this is out of control. They're burgeoning so much that they had six different services. It's almost too robotic and impersonal. 3. After the service, the folks were so big that no one even bothered to stop and talk to us. Now, this isn't me in some narcissistic tendency thinking that everyone should talk to me. However, every religious institution I have attended in my lifetime usually has a cadre of folks who do seem to gravitate to new faces and gently introduce themselves whether out of pure curiosity or other motive. Not here. Everyone had their own cliques and groups so we slowly blended out. Personally, unless you have some sort of friend or other connection into the church. Otherwise, you'll have to gut through their new congregation member "indoctrination" program. Yeah, another red flag. You have to go through a new member program for a few weeks before you're allowed to join the remaining groups in Bible study. Meh. No thanks.

Beautiful building that is filled with dark-haired people of all ages. Denomination is Presbyterian Church in America - the more conservative branch of Presbyterianism. Do not confuse this place with PC(USA) - its more liberal, mainline cousin. I have mixed feelings about this place where I gained a deep appreciation for Christianity, but which ultimately ended up not being a very healthy place for me. Three stars should be two, because it's one of those love-the-sinner-hate-the-sin type of places. But it's also a powerful center of communal love and understanding - except for gay people, liberals (theological, social, or political - IMHO) and people who aren't into fire and brimestone. The last time I went was over 10 years ago, but the scars for me are permanent, and somehow I doubt they've changed. Features Korean and English language services and activities.
