I used to attend this church regularly and serve on several ministry groups. I don't ever expect to…read morefully align with any church home 100%, but when a politician walked onto the "stage" ( bc that's what it was at that point) and campaigned, I left. Separate church and State. It's a mistake to mix the two. Also, the quality of the church went downhill through the torrent of pastors and settled on one who doesn't fit the area or my needs. By my standards, he's a stale, pale, male, and his preaching was exclusionary. His answer would be (I've heard it) to "don't ask him, ask God; read your Bible." I have. I'm glad not to have the leadership of souls in my hands, it's true. However, when I arrived at this church, I was so impressed with the teaching and the ability to remain silent where the Bible remains silent on topics. I specifically remember Lon saying, "Where the Bible is silent, we can have opinions, but we must remain silent as leaders and counsel prayer." It's clear that Lon has opinions. He's made them clear and public now, but not when I attended MBC. When that ended, so did my attendance at this church.

We were privileged to be in a small group in Daniel's home where he led studies in Romans and 1 Corinthians. Also, Daniel oversaw the Deepening Your Faith/Apologetics ministry that gave us a solid foundation for our Christian worldview. Daniel takes to heart 2 Timothy 2:15 and carefully and correctly explains God's Word. God has used him to teach us how to study the Bible - exegesis/seeking the original intended meaning of text. As believers, we should steer clear of those teachers who make the Bible say whatever they want (eisegesis). With Pastor Daniel, you will get God's Word carefully taught for His glory. (The hubby says, "Daniel teaches deep biblical truth in a way that it is easy to understand - truly an anointed teacher.") During a Bible study, I remember Pastor Daniel saying, "Much of the New Testament is about loving the brethren." Loving the brethren can't be done in isolation. You will be loved well and will be able to love others at Providence Baptist Church.

I had the privilege of preaching at Lewinsville PC while on a trip to the DC area. What a warm and…read morewelcoming community. Traditional in style it was a great group of folks that are seemingly eager to move into the future with great energy. What a blessing to also have such rich history as part of the community. I met quite a few folks who had been there for a while as long as many who were recent additions. Always a good sign. As of this post, they have an interim pastor and are looking for a new Head of Staff. Give them a try as good things are surely ahead of them. Disclaimer: I give every church a five just because not every church is perfect but it is a five to someone AND I will never review a church that I wouldn't try myself if I were looking. No need to bad mouth freaky churches because they are uh, well, freaky.

This parish is an entry to heaven on earth. The community is coursing with life and I have never…read morebeen anywhere more welcoming. The chanting is beautiful, the priests are wise and wonderful in confession, the food or coffee (which is served after practically every Divine Liturgy) is delicious and fosters real fellowship. The middle eastern food festival (held the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend) is a highlight of my year.

If you are a young adult, this is the place for you. If you have young children, there are a LOT…read moreof programs and activities for them. The sermons are always xcellent, but very long. (Most adults lose attention after 15 minutes.). The only problem for me is the emphasis is on younger families and individuals. Senior citizens have fewer opportunities. It is surprising there is no church bus to help area people without cars or drivers.

I like to find new Catholic Churches in the area after pilates on Sundays and after trying a few in McLean and Vienna, I stumbled on this Yelp page and liked the sound of "traditional Roman Catholic Church". Upon arriving the first thing I noticed was a much larger cemetery than church itself. Several families were lingering outside of the main doors a few minutes before the service but no one was very outwardly friendly. The church is certainly older and creaky. The pews don't have the newer foam to cushion the kneecaps, and frankly the pews need replacing and looked haggard. This church was odd. Nothing was really wrong with it but it felt unusual. No music, all the women wore Lacey veils, even the children, the priest walked in with a hat of some sort which I haven't seen before, and there was a lot of mumbling and the flow of the mass was very sterile and to the point. The altar boys were very militant and everything was severely structured. The tabernacle and the altar were built into one. The homily was also very intense. Despite having many children in attendance the homily was dedicated to the topic of hell in excruciating and frankly unpleasant detail even as an adult. While in typical Catholic mass adults will beat their chest 3 times, adults beat their chest often throughout this mass. I'm not sure if what I experienced was traditional Roman Catholic. As someone who was raised in this faith, this was an experience I've never had before. It was cold and I felt odd given exposing my hair. The service was very long and at times difficult to follow. I don't believe I will return. In summary, nothing was wrong with this church but it was not the typical warm and welcoming environment and this mass is most likely not for everyone. Mass times for Sunday are 5:30pm Saturday vigil; Sunday at 7:30, 9:00, and 11:00am. Rite of reconciliation is Saturday from 4pm to 5pm in the small, beautiful chapel off of the main church. Needs are met; cares are lifted; good healing and serenity provided.
