This was the tiniest museum I've ever been in, but I'm still glad I checked it out, and would still recommend it to someone who happens to be near. I wouldn't have even known it was there if I hadn't been walking past the San Agustin church complex, and I thought I had explored all of it. Unlike the other parts of the larger church complex, this place is at the far eastern end and away from the major intersection.
Featuring pre-Columbian ceramics from around the region, especially of the Otomi people who were indigenous to this area, the displays are accompanied by informative placards, dating the objects and describing their functions. Did you know that the squash was an influence for the shape of some types of ceramic ware? I didn't but I do now, and I could see it. Original, and not reproductions, it was really awesome to get to be so close to objects like these, in such a relaxed and casual setting. It's interesting that there was no guard here, in fact this place seemed forgotten or ignored by the complex, which otherwise has guards everywhere. With beautiful objects ranging in ages of five hundred to fifteen hundred years, it's an interesting and well spent ten to twenty--MAYBE--minutes. read more
