The cooked range is price friendly and includes roast beef, steak , steak and kidney pies and several hams, gala pies and scotch eggs. The raw meat selection easily surpasses the supermarkets and often includes game (when in season) eggs and condiments. The service is friendly and the butchers are knowledgable about their craft. Hygiene is first rate and I have never gone in the shop and been overwhelmed by the smell of slightly off meat. I defy anyone to buy from this amazing shop and become vegetarian - spoken as a reformed vegetarian.

The guys behind the counter are clearly career butchers, dedicated to their craft, and very knowledgeable. If you don't see something you need, ask. They'll more than likely have it in the back. I may be a poor student, but if I am going to drop real money on any aspect of my home cooking, it will be the meat. And I think the Ginger Pig is worth every extra pence it costs in both flavour and happy cow/pig/duck karma-points (plus supporting a really special local business). Came here to celebrate a recent promotion, we ended up celebrating all our senses. That ribeye for 2 was just perfectly cooked, but that might not be the most surprising here (butcher, cheater!), I was, we were, blown away by the quality of the sides: THAT cauliflower with small chunk of anchovies and chilly flakes...I still have this taste, somewhere in my mouth (that's gross, calm down Chris). Something different. The potatoes also, very simple, but so well cooked and tasty. Nothing utterly complicated, meat, potatoes and vegetable, but the way this was prepared and balanced...it's art. The waitress guided us towards the montepulciano, we had one glass each, then another one...perfect match. I love the overhall feeling as well, sitting by the communal table, that same one where I came to pick up my lamb shoulder the other day.
