We went out of our way to try Olive + Gourmando, based on reviews and friends' recommendations…read more Some of the portions seem small (Sconewich), but very filling. I couldn't finish the Egg on Your Face, so I had the rest for lunch (it was almost as good cold!). But it was DELICIOUS. Everything was really tasty and the croissants are so flaky. Service is fast - but you can tell some of the items are freshly made (like the French toast and panini). The atmosphere is adorable & quaint. Seating is a bit crowded, but that makes it charming.

The restaurant didn't provide a high chair for our baby, which was a bit disappointing. The service was good with our waitress checking with us to order and being prompt and attentive. Here is what we ordered: Grilled Cheese O+G (8/10) - the bread with the grilled cheese and caramelized onions were cooked well. The homemade ketchup had a sweet taste to it and was brought out a little colder than room temperature. I probably would have preferred the ketchup/tomato sauce to be a bit warmer. The Chicken Melt (8/10) - this sandwich was pretty big. It had grilled chicken in a creamy sauce, some Cole slaw (actually a lot of Cole slaw) and some dill pickles. The sandwich was a bit messy to eat and I think it had a little too much Cole slaw, but it was a good sandwich, nonetheless. Overall, I good experience with a few suggestions in my review that I think would have made it really great.

The meat definitely justified the wait, as it was easily the best pastrami I've ever had. It's not just a dining experience; it's a life-changing moment when you visit. The owner was more than happy to hop on a chair to take a group picture of you and your lucky friends. The wall was adorned with photos of famous people who ate at the restaurant.

The service there was great, and it had that classic old-school deli atmosphere. I hadn't had a pastrami sandwich in a while, and while this one was very good, I wouldn't personally call it great. I found the meat a little dry, but adding coleslaw and a pickle definitely helped. I also tried their classic black cherry soda, which was excellent. If I'm comparing it to places like Langer's or Katz's, I'd probably rank Schwartz below both of them. I think Katz has better pastrami with more fat and a juicier texture overall, and Langer's #19 is still my favorite deli sandwich because you're getting more ingredients and flavors than just pastrami and mustard. Overall though, Schwartz is definitely worth checking out. You probably won't be blown away, but it's still a really solid experience with a lot of character.

If you happen to be in Quebec Province and travelling from Montreal to Quebec City or vice versa, there are several towns you might stop in to get a cross sectional sample of history, from Chambly, a synthetic, plant and just add water instant suburb in the middle of a corn field, to Cowansville and Waterloo, Bromont and Shefford, places that are seeing tradition eclipsed by suburban sprawl, are still mainly agricultural, and are seeing some hard times, but as they will tell you, hard times are nothing new for these towns that started as pioneer settlements four centuries ago. In any case, to get a sense of all this, I would recommend stopping in at the local boulangerie in any of these towns, getting an elaborate pastry such as tartelette aux fruits, milles feuilles, napoleon, paris-brest, chocolatine or just an eclair with a great cup of coffee, capuccino, espresso, tea, or your choice of caffeinated beverage, and look out the window as people walk by and take you through a story both fascinating and sad at the same time. If you can, buy a loaf of bread to take with you, and if you are feeling forgetful you might neglect to realize this until you are safely back at home.
