The library was holding a used book sale, who can resist that? I got a sweet Monty Python's Flying Circus book detailing all the episodes....it only cost me 50 cents. Across the street from the library there's a very nice park with a playground, tennis & basketball courts, dog park and baseball diamond complete with covered bleachers. Ellicottville is always fun to explore but getting away from the center of town was an unique experience.

Seriously, who visits libraries when visiting a new town? *small voice* I do…read more With a few hours to fill, we decided to stop in at the Prendergast Library to stay out of the sun and check the place out, so to speak. The historic exterior beckoned to me, as the building has been up since 1889. I love how this library is truly the cornerstone of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System and is just a great addition to Jamestown as a whole. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was the stacks. There are two floors full of books of various subjects and content. Use the stairs off to the side to peruse the selections. The main library floor is an open concept, and there is a bridge connecting the two sides of the second floor. You'll have to visit to really see what I mean on this one, but it's worth the visit, I promise. The big draw for us, seeing as our library cards are for another library system, was the huge used book sale. The cheapest paperbacks started at $.50 and ranged to $2 for hardcovers. We found some amazing hidden treasures that were clearly donated over the years, to our benefit. It was like the used bookstore selection of my dreams, albeit on a much smaller scale. The only thing I didn't love about it was that the sale shelves clearly held circulating materials once, which pulls at my library nerd heartstrings, but I digress. At least when I went upstairs there were a ton of materials available, some of which clearly hadn't been checked out in awhile. Boost the circulation statistics! I was amused by the microfilm machine available for use, and even more impressed by the big puzzle they set out for patrons to assemble as a way of de-stressing. What a great idea for patrons who just need to relax and use their brains at the same time! I want to see puzzles in every library, though I advocate a more user friendly microfilm to go with it. I can't even tell you how often I've come so close to destroying archived periodicals. Finally, the library does have a dedicated children's room, but no dedicated teen space. This may just be a product of the users, but it's something I'd like to see in a central branch library. The young adult materials are mixed in on the second floor, but do have their own shelves. I'd happily spend some time in this library again if I ever find myself both in Jamestown and with some hours to fill. Keep up the good work, Prendergast Library!

There is a Bills flag hanging proudly. There is also a seed library in the back entrance of the library before you walk in, which is great. There is a great kids section. When I went this little girl was playing and she kept saying to her mom, "Bye honey, I'm going to the store. Be back soon." I was cracking up. This library was also having a little book sale near the back entrance. Librarian was friendly. Great location. Great parking.

Orchard Park is a large, spacious library in a beautiful area. It's very kid-friendly, as there's…read morean extensive children's area with play space. They also had a book sale going on where some of the books were 4/$1! The library has big shelves of fiction and non-fiction, and lower shelves for the kids. They have a big collection of local history as well as travel books and graphic novels. I like that the non-fiction sections are labeled on the top of the shelves by category. There are nice displays throughout the library. The library seemed very busy while we were there, but perhaps the book sale drew people in. There are a bunch of PCs and lots of places to sit, including comfy chairs, couches, and tables. They're spread out throughout the library so you can sit tucked away if you'd like to. Big parking lot and places to walk nearby too (like the caboose behind the library or the park across the street).

The Concord library is medium-large, and with all the chairs, tables, and couches, it's a great…read moreplace to hangout for awhile. They even have beanbags! Bored? Stop in to help work on a puzzle. They have large collections of many types of books- such as their Young Adult section. Their non-fiction books are well organized and labeled too. They have a very small collection of local books. The DVD and CD sections are large though. They also have nice displays. The library is very kid friendly too. There are about 8 PCs to work on, as well as a work area with outlets if you bring your laptop. Staff was helpful, and library was clean.

Erie county libraries are great because you can access materials from any library within the county. Set up your account online and have whatever you need sent to the library of your choice. Lots of public groups and events are set up through the libraries and kid centric events and crafts always available as well.

The Lakeshore library is a medium sized library with about 6 PCs, some tables, and a few comfy…read morechairs near the windows by the magazines. I stopped in on a nice day so the library was pretty quiet, making it a good spot to get work done. What's special about this library is that it has a big Teen space, as well a community puzzle. Additionally, there's a nice travel section including travel DVDs, as well as a dedicated Christmas section. There are parking spots in front of the building. The bathrooms were well kept. Staff was really friendly too. Would come back here to hangout and get work done if I was in the area.
