It was also incredibly sad seeing The Salem Witch trial wax figures and their descriptions. Truly awful and horrifying what mass hysteria and prejudices drove these people to do to innocent women, men, and animals. Rest in peace to all of the innocent victims of the Salem witch trials. On a brighter note though the Salem Wax Museum had other wax figures as well like pirates and seafarers (who were also a big part of Salem's history), famous author Nathanial Hawthorne and Elias Derby, Americas first millionaire! This is a tiny wax museum focused on the history of a small city. Do go into it expecting cheesiness and somewhat low quality wax figurines. (But do you necessarily want "better" wax figurines? They won't be any less creepy!) The history is simple but basically correct, and what struck me was the very effective background music as I looked at the scenes. You could find a worse way to spend 10-20 minutes and you may well have the place to yourself in the off-season. For what it is, it was exactly what I expected to be. It's a little outdated and creepy but I'm also glad I had the experience. I scanned through some of the descriptions but I don't have the attention span to read all the historical information that goes along with each scene, but for someone else who doesn't mind I am sure there is a lot to be learned. I wish I could give a zero review. What a rip-off. Spent $48 for the four of us to tour the museum. It's not really a museum. It's a room with about ten static displays of poorly looking mannequins. The "greeter" was a high school aged girl who rolled her eyes when the four of us walked in and asked how much for admission. We interrupted her cellphone texting. You can view all the displays in 5 minutes. You exit the museum via a downstairs gift shop which is fully loaded with Salem witch items for sale. If I could give this place negative stars I would! My little nephew, a 5 yr old child turned around and accidentally bumped 3 shot glasses onto the floor and broke them. The cashier was extremely condescending and unprofessional. Made my 5 yr old nephew cry hysterically. This unacceptable to treat a child this way, more especially by business. To pay for the item that broke was fine, but the unprofessional approach that was just disgusting. Please please pleeeeease do yourself a favor and skip this turd of a museum when you visit Salem. I tried to warn my fiancée that it was a waste of time and money (Yelp rarely lies), but she insisted, so I went along with it. The wax figures are absolutely laughable, and honestly kind of a creep fest. We were the only ones in there, so we made the most of it and made the entire experience kind of laughable. It does NOT do justice to the seriousness of the horrible things brought about by the witch trials. They should throw the whole thing away and redo the place...maybe hire some employees who pretend to have some semblance of enthusiasm as well. Part of the charm of this place is how cheesy it is - if you go in expecting a great museum with realistic looking wax figures, you will be sorely disappointed. The museum has some interesting info, but the wax figures are so silly looking. Like I said, I think that is part of the appeal here - sometimes it is fun to do something bad. We bought the $20 combo ticket which got us entrance into 3 attractions - we chose the wax museum, the haunted witch village, and the spellcasting. $20 for all 3 was fine for us; the spellcasting was probably the best thing that we did out of the 3. read more

My family and I have a ritual. We visit the cool, old cemetery outside and then, hyperactively bring our cameras into the wax museum. The wax statues definitely have a creepy quality about them. Their faces look bulbous and overly dramatic. In short, it's a great place to snap photos of yourself while contorting your own face into the most horrific of expressions.. wax statues in the background of said photos, naturally. The museum is a one-room attraction. If you're looking to kill time, stop in. Once you leave the room filled with wax people, you descend down a flight of stairs to an activity area. The activity area is good for kids. They supply black newsprint-quality paper and black crayons. Kids can do a rubbing of old tombstones to bring home--a neat (free) little souvenir. There's a generic build-a-bear station in the far corner, a wooden pirate cutout that's great for photos, and a rendering of an old wooden jail cell. My niece and I climbed in there and shut the door. There are no lights in there--it's creepy as hell! There's also a gift shop just beyond the activity area with the predictable Salem t-shirts and assorted souvenirs. read more

If you want a voodoo doll purchase one here. I visited most of the witch stores in Salem and none had a real voodoo doll except for this store. The staff of girls who work there are crazy. They talk out loud about their boyfriend problems and they talk badly about their coworkers. I've never seen so much envy between employees. It's a great little store except for the background noise of the employees bad mouthing each other. They need to play a bit of pagan/folk/witch music in the store. It will create the Salem black magic ambience most people expect in Salem. This store has so much potential because of its location to the cemetery out back. Who is the owner? If you walk outside towards the back of the store you'll come upon the cemetery that dates back to the 1600s and there you'll find one of the original Mayflower passengers. read more

Yeah, it was pretty lame. It's very small, and some of the wax figures were missing hands. But I dunno, I don't really regret going. I kind of liked some of the wax scenes. There is a kids play area downstairs; "grave rubbings" are free; everything else costs extra. You can get a wax mold of your hands for $9, but the process is really slow and you have to wait a long time for it. I guess my advice is: avoid it if you don't like wax museums, or if you are trying to decide between this and another, more authentically historical attraction. Consider it if you have children or otherwise enjoy wax museums. read more

The Museum also has a ghost tour, a haunted house, and indoor witch village. We thought the kids would love it. But the management abruptly closed the haunted house and promised to refund our purchase. They have not replied to phone calls or emails. Waiting for a refund earns the single star. Honestly this place seems to have a bad reputation on here, but it wasn't that bad. Got combo online to do this and the Witch Village for 20$. There was wax figures and plaques to read. It's somewhat shocking that the City of Salem can't come up with a better museum to memorialize the horrors of the Salem Witch Trials. Perhaps the Salem Witch Museum is better? I'm not so sure. For the money, this place is a total rip off. The admissions desk attendant stated it was two rooms, but for some reason I did not think she was referring to the first room that we were in as one of the two rooms. It took about 15 minutes to see everything in there, which is about 10-12 window dioramas of wax figures. They are well-crafted and there are descriptions of what you're looking at, but it feels like this should be donation-based for what it is. We purchased the $14 adult and $10 student tickets for the "hysteria pass," thinking it was a deal, but it's really not, as the Salem Witch Village is another 20 minute tour of nothingness. Decided to do this as our first museum in Salem, even after reading the poor reviews. We arrived in Salem around 6PM on a Sunday & decided to do the wax museum. Not having extensive knowledge (besides the basics) about the witch hysteria before arriving in Salem, this was a great way to start off the trip! You walk at your own pace, reading the sets & are allowed to take pictures which I thought was great. There was no one else there while we were and we had a great time, walking, reading and taking pictures with the wax figures & sets. It helped gain some knowledge of the key players of the witch hysteria. The exhibit is a little pricey for how short it is, but all in all it was a great exhibit and I recommend stopping by while you're in Salem! read more

So much potential could be had but lost it for me in the lack of upkeep. Paid $9 a head for about 10 mins of activity - most of which was in the gift shop looking at the t-shirts and mugs. Wax figures are in desperate need of repair. Some contorted in odd angles, eyes bulging, hair standing on end like the forgotten plastic baby doll in your grandma's attic. One of the figures was missing his fingers and another had been touched so much his face looked dirty and deformed. It was freezing in the museum part and the information provided was lacking. It is one room with about 7-8 displays then you go downstairs to the children activity center (my daughter is 18 so we walk through it) and on to the souvenir shop & exit.
