Our experienced teachers really knew kids' personalities, their likes an dislikes. They kept close track of their progress in each aspect of Montessori curriculum and customized learning for them when needed. The school is a very safe and nurturing place with talented staff (after-school program is one of the best I've seen) and rich traditions. By the way, their celebrations are simply amazing! They remain among our most precious memories from that time.

When he was about to turn three this past September, he moved into the 3, 4 and 5 year old class. That is when they noticed he had a hard time sitting still and focusing. He was about to age out of EI (Early Intervention) and start CPSE (Committee on Preschool Education), which would mean the therapists that were approved (Speech, SEIT and OT) could work with him in his classroom environment. However, MCR does NOT allow ANY therapists in this school to work with children who have been approved to receive it. So, we were left with no other choice, and had to scramble to find a new school in the middle of October of 2018. Not an easy task considering that most were already full by that point. Luckily we found a school that my son adores. It is a play based, loving and nurturing environment, that is so in tune with nature and outdoor play. I guess everything happens for a reason, and we were very fortunate to end up where we are now. MCR does wonderful things with the students, my son learned a lot in his time there. Their holiday show and graduation are amazing as well, along with their camp. That said, Montessori is not for every child, especially a child that requires therapy of any sort. What bothered me about our experience is how they didn't give me any feedback of his behavior in the baby class (NK) prior to moving up. We did have parent teacher conferences twice in the school year, but they never spoke about how he was disruptive, couldn't focus or sit still. Had I known this was going to be an issue, we could have looked for other schools before he started in the toddler class. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth, as we felt forced out of there in a way. In closing, I debated on whether or not to write a review about my experience with this school. However, I recently learned the same thing is happening with another child there, so I wanted to give other parents a heads up before you consider going to this school.

I cannot say enough positive things about Pat-A-Cake - our daughter has attended since February…read more2020 and love the way they reinforce the importance of kindness and treating others with respect while fostering a wonderful learning environment. My daughter has adored every one of her teachers (and loves playing school with us at home where she gets to be the teacher!) and the director, Dorothy, has been a pleasure to interact with. COVID was extremely challenging but she was a proactive communicator and always has the best interests of the children and staff at heart. Now that it's been safe to connect outside of school it's also been wonderful to see the kids in my daughter's class interact with each other at birthday parties - they all play so nicely with each other. It's clear they've developed meaningful friendships and are learning what it means to be a good friend to one another.

The ethos of the school is warm, communicative and supportive, both for the children AND their families. Having Pat-a-Cake as part of our "village" provides so much peace of mind. When my son needed speech therapy services, all of the staff was so accommodating and supportive, making sure he was set-up with the individual attention he needed to thrive. We couldn't be happier!

I experienced several acts of racism, in front of faculty and behind closed doors, and each case practically fell on deaf ears. The administration will make it seem as though the situation has been handled but that's the farthest from the truth. The same perpetrators will still be rewarded in the end, if they are favored by faculty. The faculty also has a hand in the racism as well, whether they openly support it, reward the aggressors in the end, or commit their own acts of micro or macro aggressions. I say all this to say, save your time, and save your money. The education is also subpar at best. Even if you are not a poc student, if you don't feel like wasting your money, don't send your child here. The most they'll learn is the lyrics to sweet Caroline .
